Chapter 391: Tropical Rainforest, Wilderness Survival?

  • Next Chapter

The procedures went through quickly.

After returning to Wenyan Deer Enclosure, Ning Fei contacted a construction crew. Over the course of two days, they cleared out two new sections within the sanctuary's gardens: a crane pavilion and a peacock enclosure.

Deer, cranes, and peacocks could coexist peacefully, so he placed no restrictions on the communal areas.

The staff at the sanctuary were equally thrilled.

With the addition of the red-crowned cranes and peacocks, Wenyan Deer Enclosure felt even more like a wonderland.

Once everything was settled, Ning Fei spent his time in the garden feeding the cranes.

People often associated cranes with Daoist priests.

More than anything else, these elegant birds represented the very virtues of Daoism.

Naturally, Ning Fei was absolutely fond of them.

The scene captured on the live stream was beautiful.

Within the lush, verdant garden, several deer pranced about. A handsome young priest dressed in a loose blue Daoist Robe, his hair tied up in a traditional Daoist topknot, fed the red-crowned cranes with practiced ease.

The cranes gathered around him obediently.

Beside them, a sika deer with jade-like antlers kept Ning Fei company.

It was a truly comfortable life.

After scattering the last of the food, Ning Fei sat on a stone bench and watched them.

In ancient times, this was likely the greatest pleasure enjoyed by high-ranking officials and nobles.

"This view is stunning!"

"Every single frame could be a wallpaper!"

"Temple Master Ning's taste is truly high-class."

"That's normal. A true cultivator is pure and clear on the inside. Even if a priest isn't handsome, they still give off a refreshing and spirited aura. Not to mention Temple Master Ning's incredible looks—it makes everything even more aesthetic."

"I could admire that face for the rest of my life!"

"The sanctuary feels even more like a hidden utopia now."

Ning Fei stayed at the sanctuary for a while longer. By day, he played with the animals and stretched his limbs; by night, he kept active in his own way. It was a pleasant rhythm.

One day, Ning Fei received another phone call.

The caller's background completely exceeded his expectations.

"Hello, Mr. Ning. I am from the Mei Country CBS Broadcasting Company. I am the producer of the Wilderness Survival program, and my name is Charles."

A steady, deep male voice spoke from the other end of the line.

"Hello," Ning Fei replied.

Charles naturally spoke in English. Ning Fei's English was excellent; with his global reach and plans to travel the world, mastering foreign languages was a given.

What surprised Ning Fei was the man's backing.

The Mei Country CBS Broadcasting Company was one of the three major broadcast networks dominating the market in Mei Country. Many Hollywood film studios were affiliated with it, giving it tremendous status within the networks.

The company was deeply rooted and incredibly wealthy.

Ning Fei never imagined that such an organization would seek him out.

"It is like this: we would like to invite you to participate in the latest season of our program. We are selecting the best wilderness survivalists from around the world, and you are on our invitation list for the Asian region."

Charles explained his purpose.

Hearing this, Ning Fei shook his head and declined.

"I'm sorry, but I generally do not participate in variety shows."

"You misunderstand." Charles seemed to have done his homework and had a grasp on Ning Fei's personality.

In truth, Mei Country had a highly developed film and television industry.

When producing a big-budget show, they deployed specialized teams to study candidates' personalities and hobbies, compile data, and discuss the expected on-screen dynamic.

Ning Fei's background and videos, for instance, had been thoroughly analyzed.

"I know you are someone who loves freedom and dislikes constraints. Our program drops you onto a tropical rainforest island without any interference."

"As long as you do not leave the island, you can do whatever you want."

"Of course, everything will be broadcast live from start to finish."

"Furthermore, we promise that you can continue running your own live stream simultaneously. That is not an issue at all,"

Charles quickly added.

It had to be said, these conditions were very appealing to Ning Fei.

He just needed to live on a tropical rainforest island for a period of time. The Production Crew wouldn't intervene; they would only send out drones to film.

This actually aligned perfectly with his own travel plans.

"Which island?" Ning Fei asked.

Charles paused for a brief moment.

He wasn't sure if he should reveal the island's name.

This particular island was known as the Island of Death.

"It is an island located next to the Amazon Rainforest," Charles said.

Ning Fei immediately countered, "Is it Doom Island? The one filled with all sorts of magical creatures?"

Seeing that Ning Fei had already guessed it, Charles could only nod. "It is Doom Island. If you feel it is too dangerous, we do have medical staff on standby who will respond immediately—"

"I'll go!" Ning Fei interrupted him.

"Pardon?"

"I said I'll go. Just send the start date and the relevant contracts to my email."

Ning Fei repeated himself, then hung up the phone.

Of course he was going to join this wilderness survival challenge.

Under normal circumstances, an ordinary person couldn't easily secure a visa to visit the Tropical Rainforest. This was the perfect opportunity.

The Amazon Rainforest was renowned as one of the most dangerous forests in the world.

It accounted for twenty percent of all forested areas on the planet and was dubbed the lungs of the Earth. Similarly, it held twenty percent of the world's biological species.

That meant many incredible creatures could only be found within the Amazon.

After hanging up, Ning Fei spoke to the viewers in his live stream.

"I'll be taking a trip to the Amazon Rainforest in a few days to check out the scenery."

"I'll stream it for everyone when the time comes."

The viewers were stunned.

"Temple Master, what are you going to the Amazon Rainforest for?"

"I heard that place is super dangerous! It's full of lethal, venomous creatures!"

"The local Government generally doesn't allow tourists into the Amazon Rainforest, right? Even sneaking in is illegal. You could easily get arrested."

"Temple Master, don't take such a risk!"

"I'm actually looking forward to it. Can Temple Master's adventures even be called adventures? It's basically a vacation!"

"I've only heard the name of the Tropical Rainforest but have never seen it with my own eyes. The stream will definitely satisfy my curiosity."

"Count me hyped!"

The chat exploded into lively discussions, completely invested in Ning Fei's announcement.

Ning Fei sat in the yard, stroking Xiao Yu the Deer's neck up and down.

He wondered idly if the young deer had any urge to spit at him.

Ning Fei spoke to the viewers again.

"It's a foreign show called Wilderness Survival that invited me."

"It just so happens they can help me get the visa to enter the Tropical Rainforest."

"I don't really know why the show is named that, though. Isn't the wild just full of natural wonders and beautiful scenery? How could survival even be a problem?"

At his words, the viewers were left briefly speechless.

Soon, exasperated comments flooded the screen.

"Listen to him. What a classic humblebrag."

"Good lord. Temple Master, ordinary people like us wouldn't even survive a single day in the deep mountains."

"When someone enters the wilderness, isn't survival the very first thing they worry about?"

"Hahaha, this is just who our Temple Master is."

"Did you think the title 'son of the forest' was a joke?"

"Suddenly, I'm really looking forward to it. What do you guys think will happen over there?"

"I remember this show being really popular overseas. Foreigners love these survival programs. What kind of faces do you think they'll make when they see Temple Master Ning's performance?"

"Probably the exact same expression we had when we first saw him petting a South China tiger."

Ning Fei genuinely wanted to explore the Tropical Rainforest, and having the Production Crew's help made it all the better.

That night, he checked his email for the show's details.

The program was scheduled to begin in five days and would last for a month.

For that month, contestants had to find a way to survive in the Tropical Rainforest.

The ultimate victor—who survived the month and successfully crossed the island—would win a prize of five million dollars.

Ning Fei wasn't particularly interested in the prize money. Still, getting to see the Tropical Rainforest was a nice enough reward.
