Chapter 367: Capture! Giant Golden King Crab!
The Qingfeng featured a lifting crane rigged with a steel cable. It lowered the crab pots straight to the seabed, leaving them there to wait for the catch.
"Catching crabs isn't that simple. You have to find the right spot."
"Especially in these waters. This isn't exactly a frequent haunt for them, so the chances of a successful catch aren't very high."
"I can only say that if we catch any, we've earned it."
Ning Fei stood on the deck, looking out over the rippling blue sea as he spoke.
"Haha, even Temple Master Ning has moments where he isn't sure if he can catch a crab?"
"King crabs exist in the South China Sea too, but they mostly live in cold-water regions. They're definitely hard to catch here."
"It all depends on luck."
"Catching some tropical fish would be good too. Tropical fish have a high economic value and are incredibly delicious."
"Makes sense."Ning Fei looked out over the water, struck by a sudden thought.
'Activate the Treasure Seeking Technique.'
He silently issued the command in his mind.
The Treasure Seeking Technique could locate the most precious species or treasure within a one-kilometer radius.
The ocean here was incredibly rich in marine resources; there was a good chance something unique lay hidden beneath the surface.
It wasn't long before his mobile phone chimed with a notification.
Ning Fei took out his mobile phone and glanced at the screen, finding a giant crab icon blinking on the map.
"A crab?"
"In such a massive expanse of sea, there are countless varieties of precious marine life. Yet the target found by the Treasure Seeking Technique is actually a crab?"
"Logically speaking, a single crab shouldn't have such a high value."
A wave of confusion washed over Ning Fei.
However, the Treasure Seeking Technique never made mistakes.
Which meant this crab had to be something truly special.
Ning Fei steered the yacht to the exact coordinates shown on his mobile phone and dropped three crab pots into the water, one after another.
He baited each pot with high-quality crab bait.
The viewers were full of anticipation.
Fishing on the open ocean was an inherently thrilling experience.
The other boats in the fleet were casting their nets nearby, making for a lively and bustling scene.
The fishermen lowered their nets, working together seamlessly as they hauled in net after net of diverse seafood from the depths.
The drone flew over to get a closer look.
Through the broadcast, the viewers watched as a massive net of marine life was dumped onto the deck, spilling out octopuses, sea turtles, and countless unidentifiable species.
The crew sorted through the catch, tossing anything useless or prohibited by fishing regulations back into the sea, while moving the rest into the boat's holding tanks.
Ning Fei had little interest in tropical fish; he only had a soft spot for crabs and shrimp.
"Temple Master Ning, aren't you going to bring out a net to catch some fish?" one viewer asked.
"Fishing on the open sea requires specialized equipment and a dedicated fishing boat," Ning Fei replied. "Plus, a single net scoops up all kinds of marine life. I only have a small aquarium here, so catching too many fish doesn't really suit me."
"I'm just here to catch a few king crabs."
After watching the fishermen work for a while longer, Ning Fei returned to his cabin to play with Little Fox and Xiao Heijiu.
It wasn't until late afternoon that he finally prepared to haul up the crab pots.
Just then, Liu Ming's boat pulled up nearby.
Seeing Ning Fei operating the crane, he couldn't help but look over.
As evening approached, the live stream's popularity was nearing its peak once again.
The sight of the fleet fishing on the open ocean was captivating to watch.
The seabed in this area was deeper than anyone expected. Judging by the length of the submerged steel cable, the water here was nearly a thousand meters deep.
Ning Fei could certainly take the Submarine down to those depths, but he wouldn't be able to step outside once he got there.
Therefore, the idea of diving down to catch the crab by hand was entirely unrealistic.
"Splash!"
The first crab pot was quickly hoisted out of the water.
The viewers hurriedly looked closer.
They had been waiting half the day just for this moment.
When they saw what was inside, everyone stared blankly for several seconds.
Soon after, a barrage of bullet comments exploded across the screen like a tsunami.
"Hahaha, Temple Master Ning's crab-catching skills are absolutely unmatched!"
"Is Temple Master Ning just showing us the structural design of an empty crab pot?"
"He probably just wanted to give the crab pot a good wash in the sea!"
"Didn't you guys see? There's a few strands of seaweed in there!"
"Exactly, Temple Master Ning sailed all the way out to the open ocean just to harvest seaweed."
The viewers took immense pleasure in his misfortune, feeling exceptionally amused.
After all, scenes like this were incredibly rare.
As a result, they gleefully flooded the screen with their teasing comments.
Ning Fei felt completely helpless. He had figured that by tossing in some good bait, he'd be able to catch at least a few king crabs.
It seemed the king crab population in these waters really was sparse.
Over in the Alaskan Waters, where the sea floor teemed with over a million king crabs, fishing fleets would drop hundreds of pots at a time, each one coming back stuffed to the brim.
Seeing Ning Fei's empty crab pot, Liu Ming froze for a moment before bursting into laughter.
"Temple Master Ning, crabs are pretty scarce around here. Why don't you take some groupers from me? We're all planning to have grilled fish tonight."
Liu Ming spoke with warm politeness.
Ning Fei shook his head with a helpless smile and said, "Captain Liu, I still have some sea fish in my aquarium, so I won't need them."
"I still want to see if I can catch a few king crabs."
Turning back, Ning Fei operated the crane again, pulling up the second crab pot.
The viewers once again fixed their eyes on the water's surface.
Everyone waited with bated breath for the pot to emerge.
"Splash!"
The crab pot broke through the water and was hoisted high into the air.
The result was exactly the same as the first.
There wasn't a single king crab in sight.
"Hahaha, I can already see how today is going to end."
"I know I should feel bad for him, but I just really want to laugh."
"We generally don't laugh, unless we absolutely can't hold it in."
"Hey, that sure is a beautiful crab pot."
Gazing at the empty trap, Liu Ming laughed again and said, "Temple Master Ning, it's your first time fishing on the open sea, so this kind of outcome is completely normal."
"But even so, it shouldn't be so empty that you don't even catch a single crab."
"Could it be that you're using the wrong bait?"
Looking at the crab pot, Ning Fei's expression hardly changed.
He suspected that the total absence of other crabs in this area had something to do with the specific crab identified by his Treasure Seeking Technique.
The idiom 'running amok' was derived from how crabs walked sideways. In reality, these creatures truly were quite tyrannical.
Once a massive crab laid claim to a stretch of water, it would aggressively drive away any other crabs that tried to approach.
"This guy seems to be used to running amok, which is exactly why there are no other crabs around here."
"At worst, I'll just have to try a few more times. I'll catch you eventually."
Ning Fei was very patient.
A good hunter needed patience, and fishing was no different.
Then, Ning Fei began raising the third and final crab pot.
The viewers buzzed with excitement.
Everyone was eagerly waiting for another empty cage to emerge, flooding the screen with a fresh wave of teasing comments.
This viewing experience was fantastic and incredibly entertaining for the live stream audience.
The crab pot slowly ascended, inching closer and closer to the surface.
Finally, it broke through the water, rising up from the depths of the sea.
Because it was rising more slowly this time, only the top half of the pot emerged at first.
That top half appeared completely empty as well.
The viewers were just about to unleash their mockery, but as the rest of the crab pot cleared the water, every mocking smile instantly froze on their faces.
A look of sheer astonishment washed over Liu Ming, his eyes going wide as he stared at the trap.
Ning Fei, on the other hand, couldn't help but laugh.
"Finally caught you, big guy."
"You certainly saved me a lot of trouble."
