Chapter 220: This Fish Pond Has Been Contracted by You
"Bang!"
Li Lao'er pulled the trigger.
At the exact moment he pulled the trigger, Ning Fei released his bowstring.
The noise exploded in the live stream. Even though the viewers were well-informed and had seen a lot, they were still startled.
Hunting was done with real weapons; it was far more thrilling than any television program.
The wild boars reacted even faster than imagined.
Almost the instant the gun fired, they turned and fled.
But it was too late.
Li Lao'er's bullet had already plunged into the body of one wild boar. The beast struggled violently, its speed dropping. It was only a matter of time before a few more shots finished it off.
These creatures had rough skin and thick flesh. Even at such close range, a single shot merely drew blood; it wasn't fatal.Ning Fei's arrow pierced straight into the back of another wild boar's head, killing it on the spot.
These wild boars were much larger and far more ferocious than the one Ning Fei had hunted in the forest last time, and their hides were much thicker.
But what the viewers cared about most was the wild boar charging toward the village chief.
The village chief wielded a red-tasseled spear, truly a weapon from two generations ago.
Facing the furiously charging beast, he leveled the long spear and viciously thrust it right into the boar's back.
The wild boar possessed immense strength, forcing Qin Zheng back a few steps.
Here was where everyone saw just how fierce Qin Zheng was.
He kept the red-tasseled spear embedded in the wild boar's body, his hands gripping the shaft tightly.
Wild boars had always been vicious. Ignoring the wound inflicted by the spear, it only wanted to gore this elderly-looking human to death with its tusks.
Qin Zheng's feet skidded against the ground as he was continually pushed back, but the power in his hands only grew, driving the red-tasseled spear deeper and deeper.
A path of bright red blood trailed across the ground, all of it spilling from the wild boar.
After skidding back five or six meters, the wild boar lost so much blood that its strength gave out. It collapsed onto the ground in its death throes.
On the other side, Li Lao'er fired two more shots, dispatching the wild boar he was responsible for.
With that, the hunting trio perfectly completed their task.
Witnessing this scene, the viewers felt nothing but pure shock.
This kind of primal, visceral visual stimulation had them cheering in satisfaction.
However, Ning Fei quickly redirected the drone's camera, not wanting to broadcast too much gore.
The bullet comments were packed densely together, all praising the trio's bravery.
The entire screen was filled with donations and strings of 666.
"Li Lao'er, butcher these two boars and deliver the meat to Ning Fei and me," Qin Zheng said evenly as he pulled out the red-tasseled spear.
"Rest assured, Village Chief," Li Lao'er answered hastily.
In the village, Qin Zheng's word was law, mostly because everyone truly respected him.
Even though Li Lao'er was a hunter, he couldn't possibly handle three ferocious wild boars by himself. Giving the other two to the village chief and Ning Fei wasn't an issue at all.
Ning Fei was happy with the arrangement. Having someone else butcher the boar for him couldn't be better.
Little Dog was still at Ning Fei's feet. It had been restless just moments ago, looking as if it wanted to take on the wild boars single-handedly. Thankfully, Ning Fei had held it down.
"Ning Fei, what did you need me for?"
Qin Zheng turned his head and asked.
"Oh, Village Chief, I want to contract the South Lake reservoir, so I came to look for you," Ning Fei replied.
"South Lake?" Qin Zheng recalled the location of South Lake and immediately said, "No problem. This is a good thing; no one has contracted that plot anyway."
"Let's go. We'll head back right now, and I'll sort out the contract for you."
With that, the two began walking back.
On the way back, Qin Zheng smoked his dry tobacco pipe, a peaceful smile on his face. He looked no different from any kind, elderly man.
If not for the bloody red-tasseled spear gripped in his other hand, the viewers would have genuinely believed he was just an ordinary old man.
Killing a wild boar with a single spear thrust, being shoved back five or six meters without letting go.
Truly fierce.
Back at the village committee office, Qin Zheng had old Liu put away the red-tasseled spear, then led Ning Fei into his office. He took out a box, printed a few sheets of paper, had Ning Fei sign his name, and said, "Alright, just hand over the money and you can head back. South Lake is yours. A three-year contract, renewed every three years."
"You don't need to worry about the rest of the paperwork; I'll handle it all for you."
"Just for donating that fossil, the county has praised you several times in their meetings. Your matters are easy to handle now."
Normally, contracting a reservoir required a lot of procedures. What Qin Zheng was doing wasn't entirely in line with regulations.
But Qin Zheng was bold, and he knew the village's affairs inside and out. To him, this wasn't a problem at all.
Ning Fei nodded and smiled.
"Then thank you, Village Chief."
After that, Ning Fei left the village committee and went to the nearby store to pick up a few packages.
The packages contained premium dog food and pet toys.
While he was at it, he also bought some fresh vegetables and meat.
He had reaped quite a harvest on this trip out.
When he passed by Mushroom House, there were many people outside. It seemed they were working today to record the show.
Ning Fei didn't bother them. He went straight back to Qingfeng Temple, ate a simple lunch, and then loaded the Chengfeng Wooden Boat onto the Wrangler Jungle Hero. Bringing along all the little ones in Qingfeng Temple, he drove straight toward South Lake.
"I've contracted South Lake."
"I'm taking them to South Lake to have a look."
Before leaving, Ning Fei spoke to the viewers in the live stream.
He was in a great mood. First, he had experienced the primal thrill of hunting, and then he'd secured the contracting rights for South Lake.
From today onward, he was a man who owned a lake.
The viewers clicked their tongues in praise:
"Little ones, look! This is the empire Ning Guan master conquered for you."
"I wonder if they realize their owner is loaded."
"Haha, he just contracted South Lake. Of course he has to show it off to the little ones."
"Little Fox, look. I want to tell the whole world that this fish pond has been contracted by you."
"Wow, people are still saying such cheesy lines."
"Bossy CEO Ning Guan master."
Ning Fei drove to South Lake.
South Lake wasn't huge, but its advantage was being surrounded by mountains. Heading out from the back door of Qingfeng Temple and crossing over the back mountain would lead straight down to South Lake.
However, since he was bringing the wooden boat this time, Ning Fei had to take a longer detour.
Parking the car in a clearing by the roadside, Ning Fei opened the doors, and the little ones all ran out.
Xiao Feng had also tagged along, fluttering in the air and chirping away.
Ning Fei shouldered the wooden boat and advanced toward South Lake.
"I'll need to build a simple dock first. From now on, the wooden boat can just stay at South Lake. It's so far out of the way that it won't get stolen anyway,"
Ning Fei muttered to himself.
By contracting South Lake, Ning Fei gained the rights to transform and manage it. It could be understood that South Lake was now his private territory, legally recognized, and renewed every three years.
'Right now, there are still too few fish in South Lake.'
'Based on the last time I went fishing, the fish in South Lake are few in number but large in size—surprisingly large.'
'This lake is a bit strange,'
Ning Fei mused.
He arrived at the shore and looked out over South Lake.
The water's clarity wasn't very high. Looking across, the lake resembled a mirror, shimmering with light as ripples spread out in waves.
Ning Fei placed the wooden boat on the water.
The wooden boat now featured a small cabin covering two-thirds of the hull. The cabin could comfortably accommodate one person without feeling cramped.
"All aboard,"
Ning Fei said with a smile to the little ones.
Hearing him, Little Fox, Little Dog, and Little Fei obediently hopped onto the boat.
Little Fox appeared very calm, lying down at the bow and closing her eyes to sleep out of sheer boredom.
Little Dog was much goofier, jumping back and forth and occasionally tilting its head to examine the hull, seemingly confused about why the ground was swaying from side to side.
Xiao Feng stood on the roof of the cabin, silently watching Ning Fei.
Ning Fei also boarded. With a forceful push of the punting pole, the small boat cut through the waves, heading straight forward.
The drone climbed higher, and higher still.
In the bleak autumn, a solitary skiff floated on the lake. A Daoist priest stood at the stern punting the boat, while a fox and a little dog stood at the bow, catching the cool breeze. The scene possessed a unique and captivating charm.
