OutBreak Survival

Chapter 111: Teleporting survivors and Preparing for a meeting.

You settle back on your heels, keeping your posture open and unthreatening. Around the flight deck, the slow work of healing continues. Asia moves between the prisoners, golden light flickering from her hands as she kneels beside each woman in turn. Most of them accept her touch now, though some still flinch.

Liza hasn't moved from her corner. Her tail remains coiled tight, scaled forearms pressed against the bulkhead. Her slitted pupils track the ring on the deck like it might bite her.

Sango approaches one of the local women carefully, offering water. The woman takes it with shaking hands, gulps it down. "Where... where are we?" Her voice cracks.

"Safe," Sango says quietly. "You're on a ship. Ocean all around. No one can get to you here."

The woman's eyes well up. She doesn't speak again, just clutches the water bottle.

You keep your attention split between Liza and the broader scene. Two of the rescued women are talking to each other in low, urgent voices. Three others sit together in a tight cluster, not speaking at all. One has started crying - not loud sobs, just silent tears streaming down her face while Asia's healing light works on bruises along her arms.

Tuka stands beside you, close enough that her presence feels almost protective. She watches Liza too.

Minutes pass. The sun beats down. The ocean breeze carries salt spray across the deck.

Finally, Liza's hand moves. Slowly - so slowly it seems involuntary - her fingers creep forward across the metal deck. They stop inches from the ring. Her breathing quickens. Her tail twitches.

Then she snatches it up and rams it onto her finger like she's afraid she'll change her mind.

You don't move or speak. Just open the telepathy web and wait.

Liza stares at the ring on her finger. Her mental voice comes through tight with fear. "What is this? What does it do? Are you going to hurt me?"

"No one here will hurt you," you send back gently. "The ring lets us talk without speaking. You're safe now."

"Safe?" The word carries layers of disbelief.

"Safe," you confirm. "The people who caged you aren't here. You're on my ship now. No one here will hurt you."

Liza's breathing is still too fast. Her tail uncurls slightly, then coils tight again. "I don't understand. You took me from the cage. Why? What do you want?"

"You are very far from home," you say carefully. "From another world. We're rescuing people like you. You don't belong here."

Tuka's mental voice joins in, tentative. "I'm from another world too. The man who put me in the cage... he didn't care. But these people do. They helped me."

Liza looks at Tuka for the first time, really looks. Her eyes widen slightly at the pointed ears. "Elf?"

"Yes," Tuka says.

"I was..." Liza's mental voice fractures. "I was a slave. In my world. Then I was here. Then they caught me again."

You keep your response gentle. "You'rerecovering quickly, you can stay here as long as you want, and then you can decide what you want to do."

Liza's mental voice comes through hesitant, fractured. "How long... how long do I have to stay here? Before you decide what to do with me?"

"As long as you need," you send back. "Days, weeks, months. There's no time limit. You're not cargo."

Her tail uncurls slightly. "That's what the last people said. Before they locked me up."

Tuka shifts beside you, her pointed ears twitching. "I was only in the cage for... I don't know how long. Days? But before that, I came through a portal. My father threw me into a well to save me from the dragon, I only saw it for a moment before I landed in a lake instead of a well. I don't understand how I ended up here."

"Liza: that's called a manipulation of words, they didn't want you as cargo, they wanted you as merchandise, to be sold. Tuka: You and most of the women on this ship are from other worlds entirely," you explain. "Brought here somehow during... an event. We're still learning why it happened."

"Can I go back?" Tuka's voice carries desperate hope. "My village. My father. Can you send me home?"

"Maybe, We're working on it. Cross-dimensional travel is... complicated. But you're safe here while we figure it out."

You turn toward Asia, who's kneeling beside one of the local women. Golden light flickers around her hands, fading bruises and cuts visibly healing. "Asia, how are they doing?"

Asia looks up, her expression calm but focused. "Most of the physical injuries are minor - dehydration, malnutrition, bruising. The ship's enchantments are already helping with that. But three of them..." She gestures toward women sitting together near the bulkhead. "They have crude restraints, clearly intended to prevent magic. You can see the pain they're causing."

You approach the three women carefully. One meets your eyes - maybe thirty years old, dark hair matted with sweat. "You said... you said we're safe?"

"You are. But you're hurting. I can remove those barbed shackles, but I need your permission first."

She glances at the other two women, then back at you. "Will it hurt?"

"Possibly for a moment, then it should feel like relief."

She shakily nods slowly. "Okay. Please."

You kneel beside her, examining the crude craft. large handcuffs with barb wire welded to them, amateur suppression magic, painful and inefficient. You enchant the cuffs with the reverse of repair at full power, in moments unraveling the construct. The woman gasps as the steel and iron dissolves, then exhales shakily.

"Oh god. That's... that's so much better."

The second woman speaks up immediately. "Me too. Please."

You move to her, repeating the process. Then the third. Each time the relief is visible - tension draining from shoulders, breathing evening out.

Tuka's mental voice returns. "The rings you gave us. They make me feel... warmer. Less afraid."

"They have multiple enchantments that'll help you heal," you send back. "Physically and mentally. By tonight you should feel more stable."

Liza hasn't moved from her corner, but her breathing has slowed. Her tail remains coiled, but not quite as tight.

"I still don't understand," she sends. "Why rescue us? What do you gain?"

"You're people, that never deserved to experience this worlds stupidity." you reply simply. "That's enough."

Through the telepathy web, you send targeted messages to your companions. Riveria, can you stay near Tuka? You're both elves, if different worlds, but she might find comfort in that. Her father and village are gone. Even if she could return, there's nothing but ash. A pause, then Riveria's mental acknowledgment carries quiet understanding. I will stay with her.

Albedo, you continue, keep Liza close. The storyline version of her becomes an excellent spear fighter and stern bodyguard. Your visible non-human features might comfort her more than words right now.

Albedo's response is immediate. Understood. I will remain nearby.

Maria, could you get clothes for both of them? Something comfortable.

Maria's mental voice carries warmth. Already on it. I'll bring options shortly.

You turn your attention to the nine local women. Most are sitting or standing now, the ship's regeneration enchantments having restored their physical baseline. They watch you with varied expressions - wariness, confusion, fragile hope.

"Ladies," you begin, keeping your voice gentle but clear. "I said you're safe, and that's true. But false hope is a curse, so here's reality."

They lean forward slightly. One woman, the dark-haired one you freed from the binding, meets your eyes directly.

"This ship is a refuge for dimensional travelers. Most of the women around you aren't from this world. They came here the same way - suddenly, without warning, from completely different realities."

The dark-haired woman glances at Tuka's pointed ears, then at Liza's scaled forearms. "That... that makes sense, actually. Nothing else did."

"Just like I teleported you from those cages, I can teleport you anywhere you want to go. If you don't have anywhere safe, I can suggest two options."

Another woman speaks up - younger, maybe mid-twenties. "What options?"

"One is a settlement that recently overcame its own slavery problem. They'd likely be understanding about what you've been through. The other is working with former Navy personnel who are rebuilding trade routes and trying to prevent civilization's complete collapse."

The dark-haired woman exchanges glances with two others. "The Navy option. We've been caged like animals. I want to help make sure that doesn't happen to anyone else."

Three more women nod agreement. One of the remaining five speaks hesitantly. "My sister lives in Sacramento. Is that... is Sacramento still there?"

"We flew through Sacremento a few days ago. I can get you to the airport. There was a few survivors there."

The woman's eyes well up. "Please. I just want to find her."

Riviera approaches Tuka slowly, keeping a respectful distance. She says something in flowing Elven - her accent different from Tuka's but apparently comprehensible. Tuka's expression shifts from fear to surprise to desperate relief as another elf speaks to her in her own language.

Albedo positions herself near Liza, her wings and horns fully visible. Liza stares at them, her tail uncurling slightly. For the first time since arriving, her breathing seems to steady.

You turn to Rika, who's standing a respectful distance from the rescued prisoners. "Can you reach Webb and Reeves? Ask if they're okay with us sending some female survivors to their flight deck. If not, who should receive them?"

Rika nods, moving to the command center.

"Perfect." You gesture toward, the woman who asked about Sacramento. Your Spectral Hand drifts forward, translucent palm upturned in a gentle invitation. "Teleportation services to Sacramento Executive Airport," you say with a slight smile. "Arriving now."

She stares at the ghostly hand, then reaches out tentatively. Her fingers pass through the construct for a moment before it solidifies under her touch. She gasps.

You cast teleport. The Hand and her vanish together in a shimmer of displaced air.

Two seconds later the Hand reappears alone, empty palm still raised.

The remaining two undecided women exchange glances. They've been watching everything in stunned silence since arriving on deck.

Maria appears from the hatchway, moving toward Tuka and Liza with slow caution. "Come with me," she says quietly. "Let's get you both into fresh clothes. You'll feel better."

Tuka rises unsteadily, one hand pressed to the deck for balance. Liza uncurls more slowly, tail dragging behind her as she follows Maria around the corner toward the interior passages. Neither woman speaks, but Liza's breathing has steadied slightly.

Rika returns to announce, "Webb says the Portland can accommodate them. Medical bay's ready, and he's got female personnel who can help with initial integration."

You turn your attention to the two undecided women. "What about you two? Where do you want to go?"

One with a messy dark-hair ponytail speaks first. She's older, maybe thirty-three. "The Navy option. Like Rachel said." She gestures toward the group of five women who chose the Portland. "I don't have anywhere else. And if I'm going to be useful, I want to help make sure this doesn't happen to anyone else."

The second nods agreement. "Same. My family's gone. I saw them turn. But I can still do something that matters."

The dark-haired woman who emerged as informal leader steps forward and puts a hand on the last woman's shoulder. "We'll look out for each other. That's what matters now."

The eight women cluster together slightly, forming a unit.

Asia finishes healing the last visible injuries, golden light fading from her hands. "They're physically stable," she reports. "The ship's enchantments are handling the rest. They'll need rest, but they're recovering quickly."

You glance at the group. eight women choosing the Navy. Lisa Martinez already teleported to Sacramento. Tuka and Liza being cared for by Maria. The immediate crisis almost handled.

You gesture toward the six women standing together. "USS Portland is ready for you. I'll send you one at a time."

Their leader steps forward first, jaw set. "Thank you. For getting us out of there."

The Spectral Hand drifts forward, palm upturned. She takes it without hesitation. You cast Teleport. She vanishes.

Two seconds later the Hand reappears. Each teleportation takes maybe fifteen seconds total - the casting itself instant, but you give each woman a moment to orient before sending the next.

When the last woman disappears, you turn to Rika. "I'm going to scry their captor. Need to see what we're dealing with before we confront him."

You cast scrying, directing it back toward Phoenix. The vision opens instantly - you've gotten better at this. The department store cage area appears, guards standing around the empty cells looking confused and angry. One of them is shouting into a radio.

You shift focus, searching for whoever's in charge. The vision slides through corridors until you find him - a man in his forties, ex-military bearing obvious in his posture. He's standing in what looks like a makeshift office, tactical vest over civilian clothing, handgun on his hip. Three other armed men stand nearby.

"Derek," one of them says. "We've searched the entire perimeter. No sign of forced entry, no tracks, nothing. It's like they just... vanished."

Derek's jaw tightens. "Magic. Had to be. Someone teleported them out right from under us."

"Who could do that?" another guard asks.

"I don't know. But whoever it was just stole eleven high-value assets." Derek turns toward a map on the wall. "Lock down everything. No one in or out until we figure out what happened."

You dismiss the scrying and turn to Nova, Albedo, and Rika who've gathered nearby. "His name is Derek. Obviously Ex-military, probably Black-ops of some kind. He already guessed it was magic. He's locking down his operation."

Nova crosses her arms. "How do you want to approach this?"

"I want overwhelming force," you say. "But mysterious. I don't want him thinking he can negotiate as equals."

Albedo's expression shifts thoughtful. "Teleport directly into his office. Demonstrate you could have killed him already but chose conversation instead."

Rika nods. "Bring backup, but keep them hidden initially. Make him realize he's outmatched before revealing full strength."

"What's the message?" Nova asks.

"That dimensional travelers are under my protection," you reply. "And that cooperation is more profitable than being our enemy."

You begin issuing instructions, your voice carrying both verbally and through the telepathy web. "Combat personnel, armor and weapons. We're making an impression."

Albedo nods once and disappears below deck. Erza follows, her expression focused. Nova, Rika, Sango, Mikasa, and Violet move as a unit toward the hatchway.

Maria returns from around the corner with Tuka and Liza in tow. Tuka's wearing a tight sports top and loose skirt that swirls around mid-thigh - elven modesty preserved but modern. Liza moves stiffly in her black pencil skirt and matching sports bra, her reptilian tail swaying behind her, scaled forearms catching sunlight.

Musashi stands near the edge, hand resting on her katana hilt. Kurumi adjusts her French maid dress, the hem deliberately short. Sinon checks her rifle's magazine. Yoruichi stretches lazily, wearing simple dark clothing that doesn't restrict movement. Maria's outfit remains revealing - short skirt, thigh-high boots. Hinata stands in her miniskirt maid uniform, hands folded, an adorable mix of embarrassed and confidence.

Kurumi's and Hinata's new outfits gain more attention than the two new arrivals, it takes you a minute to realize that there are multiple private conversations occurring through the Telepathy Web.

Seven minutes pass. The combat personnel return transformed.

Albedo wears full black plate armor, glaive in hand, wings folded but visible. Erza's in her Heaven's Wheel armor - silver plates over blue accents, swords at her hip. Nova's midnight gray Specter armor gleams with integrated targeting systems. Rika's tactical vest bristles with equipment, sniper rifle slung across her back. Sango carries Hiraikotsu across her shoulders, demon slayer armor fitted perfectly. Mikasa's Survey Corps uniform includes her ODM gear, blades ready. Violet wears simple combat clothing.

You Speak to everyone simultaneously. "I'm opening a Gate into Derek's office. Albedo enters first - expect panic shots before they realize bullets won't work. Erza, Musashi, Yoruichi, Nova follow and establish dominance. Kill the guards if necessary."

Albedo's mental acknowledgment carries anticipation.

"Rin, Violet, Sinon, Sango, Asia, Riveria - stay this side and provide backup if needed."

Rin positions herself near where you're standing. The others spread out slightly.

"After the room's secured, Shinobu and Maria, please lead me in. Hinata and Kurumi a step behind."

Yoruichi grins. "Making an entrance?"

"Entrance, and statement," you reply aloud. "I'll compliment his capture success, insult his treatment methods, then negotiate payment. He gets Phoenix International Airport and nearby Costco enchantments - enough to establish serious political and financial foothold if he moves fast."

C.C. speaks from near the hatchway. "You're teaching him that capturing travelers is profitable."

"I'm teaching him that keeping them healthy is more profitable than letting them starve in cages," you counter. "And that I'm not someone to cross."

Shinobu appears beside you. "When do we start?"

"Now." looking at your team of armored supermodels, "Is everyone ready?"

Albedo steps forward, glaive ready. "On your word."

You begin casting Gate, directing it toward Derek office, coordinates from your scrying. The portal shimmers into existence - a vertical oval of distorted air showing a makeshift office interior. Four armed men visible inside, Derek standing near a wall map.
