Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 899 I Stopped Loving You a Long Time Ago
At Jardinelle.
When Fiona Linton didn’t see Walker Grant at lunch, she sent someone to look for him. It wasn’t until she heard a servant’s startled cry that she learned he had fainted in the study.
He kept murmuring Chloe’s name, repeatedly groaning in pain. Fiona tried acupuncture to ease his suffering, but it didn’t do much good. When she removed the white gauze from his eyes, she saw his forehead was drenched in cold sweat. He continuously cried out in agony. Left with no other options, Fiona finally called Chloe Reed.
After hanging up, she frowned at Walker lying on the bed, her gaze growing complex. She could tell that Chloe seemed to be deliberately distancing herself from him. As for why, Fiona guessed it might have something to do with the Holloways. Perhaps Chloe just didn’t want to drag Walker into her mess anymore?
With a jumble of thoughts running through her head, she tried a few other methods. Walker’s pain seemed to ease a little, and he finally stopped crying out. She breathed a sigh of relief and wiped the sweat from her forehead with the back of her hand.
Just then, a servant’s voice rang out from the hallway. "Welcome back, Ma’am."
"Mhm."
It was Chloe’s hoarse voice.
Fiona hurriedly turned and walked out. Seeing Chloe coming up the stairs, she asked, "Chloe, where did you go?"
"I had some things to take care of," Chloe replied. After a brief pause, she asked, "How is he?"
"He’s stable for now," Fiona said. "He really gave me a scare earlier. I couldn’t find the cause, and he just kept screaming in pain. I’ve never seen anything like it."
Chloe nodded. "I’m going to take a shower then." With that, she turned and headed straight for the guest room.
"Huh?" Seeing this, Fiona asked in confusion, "Chloe, aren’t you going in to see him?"
Chloe turned her head slightly to look at her. "Didn’t you say you’ve already stabilized his condition? What’s the point of me going in?"
"Uh..." Fiona was at a loss for words.
She watched Chloe enter the guest room and shut the door. Rubbing her nose awkwardly, she glanced back at Walker, who had fallen into a deep sleep in the master bedroom, and let out a helpless sigh.
Walker woke up after an hour of sleep. He sat up slowly, instinctively opening his eyes, but then froze. He reached his hand out sluggishly. A moment later, as if hearing something, he tilted his head slightly.
"Who’s there?" He had caught the sound of someone else breathing in the room.
Chloe’s hoarse voice sounded. "It’s me."
Walker’s tightly knitted brows relaxed a fraction, and his tone softened. "Chloe, when did you get back?"
"Over an hour ago. How are you feeling?"
"My eyes hurt."
"They still hurt?" Chloe asked.
"Mhm." He nodded, his gaze lowered. The wall lamp was on, casting a dim light across the room. His thick, dark eyelashes obscured his eyes, making it impossible to read his expression.
"I’ll go get Fiona then," Chloe said. "She has a way to stop the pain." She stood up to leave.
"Chloe," Walker spoke up immediately, his voice turning a bit hoarse. "Don’t go, okay? Can you just hold me?"
Chloe didn’t step any closer. Standing a short distance away, she said in an incredibly flat tone, "Doing that won’t stop the pain."
"It will," Walker insisted. "Hasn’t it worked before?"
But Chloe replied slowly, "It can’t always be like this. We agreed from the start that we would get a divorce. Walker, you promised me."
