Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 809: She Has Always Been Persistent
In the study.
Walker Grant was on the phone with Ethan Finch.
Ethan, who was in charge of overseas operations, spoke in a grave tone. "Mr. Grant, Mr. Shaw has located the island. However, William Quinn has deployed numerous defense systems there. I’m afraid it’ll be difficult to break in."
Walker curled his long, elegant fingers, his knuckles tapping rhythmically against the desk. "Wait for word," he said in a slow, deep voice. "Someone will coordinate with you from the inside."
Ethan paused, then asked tentatively, "Is it... Young Master Monroe?"
"Yes."
Walker gave a faint hum of acknowledgment. "Hold your position for now and wait for his signal."
"Understood."
Ethan replied before hanging up the phone.
Walker’s vision was pitch black. He reached up to press his temples, which still stung with a faint, throbbing pain.
He had known from the very beginning that Nathaniel Monroe had gone looking for Iris Yates.
In fact, he was the one who had leaked her location to him.
And right now, they were all waiting for an opportunity.
William Quinn had already boarded the cruise ship. Once something happened to him, the island would be left leaderless, and Iris could be rescued swiftly.
For now, all they could do was wait.
His phone rang again, and the screen reader announced the caller’s name: Judith Pierce.
He answered the call. "Hello, Mom."
Judith’s voice came through, colored with a smile. "Walker, when are you coming back? Should I send a car to pick you up?"
"I’ll head over in a bit," Walker replied.
"Alright, we’ll be waiting for you." Judith sounded thrilled, and she quickly ended the call.
Walker stood up and slowly walked out of the study. Feeling his way to the railing, he called down, "Chloe."
Chloe Reed and Fiona Linton were both in the living room. Hearing his voice, they looked up.
"Hey, what do you need?" Fiona asked quickly.
Chloe stood up and headed upstairs. Walking right up to him, she asked, "Are... you... heading... back?"
"Yeah," Walker responded. "You two are about to head out as well, right? Have fun, and call me if anything comes up."
"Mhm."
Chloe murmured in agreement.
The driver was already waiting at the door with the car. Walker reached out, grabbed her hand, and pulled her into a firm embrace with a slight tug.
"I’ll come find you soon. I still want to spend the Spring Festival with you."
His tone was filled with a deep, unbreakable longing.
Chloe’s long eyelashes fluttered. She pushed him away, and he got into the car.
Watching the vehicle drive away, Chloe finally withdrew her gaze.
Fiona crossed her arms and let out a light chuckle. "Chloe, it looks to me like you’re already wavering. You aren’t going to divorce him anymore, are you?"
But Chloe said, "Why... wouldn’t... I?"
"Because you’re already so tolerant of him. You’re accepting all the kindness and affection he puts out, and the two of you have such a great tacit understanding when you’re together," Fiona said, laying out everything she had observed. "With things like this, are you still going to get a divorce?"
Chloe merely smiled faintly. She typed on her phone, "Of course we’re getting a divorce. I want to enjoy life on my own terms. We agreed on this a long time ago."
"Alright, alright." Seeing how insistent she was, Fiona didn’t press the matter any further. She wrapped an arm around Chloe’s shoulders. "Let’s head out, too!"
Chloe checked the time. It was almost past noon. She typed, "Let’s wait a little longer. We’ll pick up Ann and head out together."
"Sounds good."
Soltara.
The car pulled up to the entrance. The resort manager hurried over with a beaming smile. "Mrs. Grant, you’ve arrived."
