On the sofa, Fiona Linton rested her chin in her hands, watching the scene unfold with a sigh and a shake of her head.

She thought to herself, "It’s over for him. Who could possibly resist that?"

After another acupuncture session and a bowl of medicinal soup, Fiona once again took Walker Grant’s pulse to check his condition. Her expression was serious. "Strange. Your toxins are clearly almost completely cleared out. Why haven’t you recovered?"

She looked up at him. "How about you go to the hospital for another checkup? Let’s see if there’s any problem with your optic nerve."

"Yeah," Walker murmured in agreement. "I’ll go after the new year."

Fiona suggested, "Or, you could have Mr. Aldridge take another look at you. He possesses genuine skill."

"We’ll see." Walker’s tone had noticeably cooled.

Fiona raised her eyebrows slightly, leaning close to Chloe Reed’s ear to whisper, "Is he just trying to avoid seeing his romantic rival?"

Chloe typed on her phone and held up the screen. "The trip to Soltara for the new year has already been arranged."

Fiona chuckled. "Babe, are you trying to change the subject on me?"

"Are. You. Going?" Chloe put down her phone, her liquid eyes looking at her calmly.

"Going, going, of course I’m going!" Fiona immediately mimed zipping her lips shut before adding, "But won’t it be a bit boring with just the two of us? Should we invite some friends? It’d be best if we could get a group of four so we can play mahjong."

Chloe’s eyes lit up. She thought that was a great idea! She typed on her phone: "I’ll ask Ann and Claire."

Pausing, she shook her head and typed another message. "Actually, Claire is definitely overwhelmed with Nathaniel Monroe’s situation. She probably isn’t in the mood to go out and have fun."

"Then let’s just invite Ann first," Fiona said. "Three people can still find ways to have fun."

Chloe lowered her eyes slightly, a touch of sadness washing over her face.

Sensing her shift in mood, Fiona hurriedly asked, "What’s wrong? What happened?"

Chloe took a deep breath and typed, "It would be great if Iris were here. She’s really good at mahjong."

She wondered how Iris Yates was doing these days.

Chloe looked outside. The snow had already begun to melt. On the eve of the Spring Festival in previous years, she and Iris would always go shopping together and buy everything in sight. But this year, she hadn’t heard a single word from her.

Fiona slung an arm around her shoulders to comfort her. "Don’t worry, don’t worry. William Quinn likes her so much, he shouldn’t do anything to hurt her. I’m sure she’ll be fine."

However, even as the words left her mouth, Fiona found herself doubting them.

William Quinn was a complete lunatic. One second, he might be enamored, letting the other person do whatever they pleased—even if they practically shat on his head. But the very next second, if he lost interest, he could effortlessly shove them into a cesspit and torture them to death.

He was a psychopath. In the purest, most clinical sense of the word.

In the afternoon, Judith Pierce left with Noah.

With only three days left until the Spring Festival, Walker said they would head back on the day of the festival itself. Over the past few days, he had spent almost all his time with Chloe, following her wherever she went.

When she practiced shooting in the basement, he sat nearby. Even if he did nothing but listen, he insisted on being there. This level of clinginess was something he had never displayed in all their years together.

Chloe felt incredibly unaccustomed to it. She practiced for a little while longer before putting her gun down and looking at him.

Walker was the first to speak. "Chloe, are you thirsty? Are you tired? Do you want to take a break?"
