Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce

Chapter 783: This Man is Truly Sinister

  • Next Chapter

Since he was being so straightforward, Chloe Reed really couldn’t say much else.

He laid all his feelings out in the open and hadn’t done anything out of line. All she could do was accept it gracefully rather than get caught up in her own emotions; otherwise, spending time together would become exhausting.

Chloe typed on her phone, "Let’s go buy groceries."

Preston Vance offered a faint smile. "Alright."

They went to the supermarket together. Preston pushed the cart, following behind her the entire time. Watching her sort through the produce, taking in the beautiful, soft profile of her face, a certain part of his heart softened beyond words.

He pushed his glasses up his nose, unable to help but wonder when she would finally get a divorce. He truly couldn’t wait.

Meanwhile.

Walker Grant had been holding his phone, waiting for Chloe’s reply. But the device remained dead silent, as if it were broken.

He sat silently in the living room, his tall figure slightly hunched. That feeling of things slipping out of his control surged up once again.

Suddenly, the phone rang. He immediately listened to the screen reader, following the audio prompts to operate the device.

But the messages weren’t from Chloe. They were reports from the bodyguard assigned to follow and protect her.

Bodyguard: [Madam met up with Preston Vance.]

Bodyguard: [Madam and Preston Vance are getting coffee together.]

Bodyguard: [Madam and Preston Vance are grocery shopping together.]

Bodyguard: [Madam brought Preston Vance back to the old mansion. The old lady is very happy.]

Walker was speechless.

The phone might as well have been dead.

Tossing the device aside, he leaned back heavily against the sofa and pressed his fingers to his temples. An aura of cold loneliness radiated from him.

"AHEM..."

A light cough broke the silence.

Walker’s expression didn’t change. He asked in a flat tone, "Is there something you need?"

Fiona Linton let out an awkward chuckle. "Um... am I interrupting your brooding? I checked the time, and I really had to come out. It’s time for your acupuncture session."

Fiona had actually been standing there for a few minutes. Taking in Walker’s entire dramatic display, she couldn’t help but twitch her lips.

She thought, "What a manipulative man playing the victim. Such scheming, such tactics. If he uses these tricks on Chloe, how could someone as kind-hearted as her possibly resist?" She truly couldn’t stand watching it anymore, which was why she finally spoke up.

Walker’s thin lips twitched upward. "You should have recorded it and sent it to her. Then you could have complained to her about my dramatic theatrics."

Fiona slightly widened her eyes, never expecting such a phrase to come out of his mouth.

"So you admit you’re putting on an act, huh?" Fiona, growing bolder, called him out directly. "I refuse to believe Chloe can’t see through it."

"And what if she does see through it?" Walker said slowly and deliberately. "She knows full well I’m putting on an act to win her sympathy, but she can’t bring herself to reject it. That is all that matters."

Fiona gave him a look of utter disdain. "You manipulative schemer."

However, Walker’s tone suddenly dropped a few registers. "If I don’t use a few tricks, she really will leave me for good."

Fiona fell silent.

After a few seconds, she finally spoke. "Come on, let’s get these needles in. Stop poisoning my mind with your theories. I am not going to be your ally. At most, for the sake of the money, I might put in a few good words for you."

Walker curled his lips into a slight smile. "Much appreciated."

Inexplicably, Fiona actually felt a twinge of guilt. She hurriedly patted her own cheeks to snap out of it.

She thought, "This man is truly sinister!"
