Chapter 1499: The Power of the Avatar

  • Next Chapter

In the Immortal Palace, if one were to say who was closest to Pei Yan, it would undoubtedly be Feng Tianhe, the Grand Elder of the Mo Sect, who interacted with Pei Yan the most. Now, however, he spoke in such a tone, clearly frightened by Pei Yan’s recent actions against Azote. While the Mechanical Alchemy Mo Sect was superior to the Magic Alchemist Association, it was not to the point of being leagues apart. Pei Yan could seize control over the alchemy puppets from Azote, and he could do the same to the Mo Sect in the future. How could the Mo Sect, reliant on mechanics for its existence, not feel a sense of crisis?

“The impact is certainly tremendous! Although our disciples above the Asura Dao level have begun mastering the technique of integrating with puppets in combat, controlling them might not be as easy for Pei Yan, but below this realm, apart from some mechanical artifacts and secret weapons, our main combat power still relies on manipulating mechanical puppets. In front of Pei Yan, these puppets are basically defeated en masse.” Feng Tianhe shook his head and sighed. This situation was already dire enough for the Mo Sect, yet there was an even worse possibility that Feng Tianhe kept to himself. With such unique abilities, Pei Yan naturally suppressed all mechanical puppet masters. If a sudden conflict arose, even a mechanical master of Feng Tianhe’s level would need time to merge with his own puppet. But would Pei Yan give you that time?

Moreover, if merged, could Pei Yan still influence the puppet? To what extent? Would the puppet become one’s own grave? No one could be certain! Feng Tianhe added another layer of fear and apprehension towards Pei Yan when considering these possibilities.

Seeing Feng Tianhe’s increasingly grim expression, Lin Daozi finally realized the seriousness of the issue and furrowed his brows, asking, “Is there a way to avoid this?”

“Perhaps. But at least for now, I can’t think of anything. I’ll have to discuss the matter with my elder brother and the sect’s elders when I return. Before then, it’s best not to provoke Pei Yan. Even if there is a conflict, we of the Mo Sect would be powerless against him, and our presence would become an assist to him rather than a hindrance.” The helpless Feng Tianhe could only mock himself at this predicament.

Upon hearing this, Lin Daozi glanced at the intense battlefield and raised his eyebrows anxiously, saying, “Besides Blood Shura, who would dare to provoke such a disaster as Pei Yan in the world?”

On the battlefield, those exposed in the open like the Inquiry Hall naturally felt the aura of the magical forbidden curse being released by the other side. The Inquiry Hall also had forbidden curses, with ten forbidden curse rings carried by Xia Yu, Gu Shenghui, and others. However, these curses were prepared by Flamel for the Sword Discussion Conference, storing individual high-damage curses more suited for one-on-one encounters, rendering them somewhat insignificant in the current melee.

In response, Pei Yan was not in a hurry to interrupt the enemy’s forbidden curse casting, merely slightly curling his finger, which commanded the mechanical clones behind him to split into around a thousand and fly towards the sky above Council City.

Reacting to the new development from the Inquiry Hall’s camp, the griffons and Flying Dragon Squad guarding around the mages moved swiftly, urging their mounts to charge at their enemies.

Seeing this, the envoys from the Dragon Realm in the void all showed contemptuous ridicule. Although the combat capability of Pei Yan’s clones could not be inferred without witnessing it firsthand, the power of the griffons and flying dragons was all too familiar. These magic beasts, left outside the Spirit Monster Plane and tamed by humans as mounts for long durations, are neither the most spiritually advanced nor bloodline-pure among their kinds. Of the griffons, however, due to a long-standing contract with humans from the Magic Plane, a group of their pure bloodline ancestors went to the Spirit Monster Plane, while another stayed in their homeland to reproduce, remaining relatively pure. Whereas the flying dragons were far inferior—none within the dragon lineage of the Dragon Realm acknowledged them as dragons. In their eyes, at most, they were flying lizards, calling them dragons insulted the Dragon Race.

Precisely due to this reason, even an outsider like Pei Yan could distinguish the difference between them just by their appearance. The flying dragons under the Flying Dragon Knights were even smaller than the juvenile dragons Pei Yan had seen in the Dragon Realm, much less emitting any Dragon Breath.

The combat results were as predicted: The collision between the Temple Knights and the Mechanical Legion wasn’t evenly matched, but effectively curtailed the enemy’s assault and caused some casualties. In the air, however, Pei Yan’s mere thousand mechanical clones against the opposing three thousand griffons and flying dragons formed a coalition, turned into an almost one-sided massacre.

No matter how seamless the coordination between a person and their mount is, it ultimately remains cooperation between two distinct species. Facing foes whose speed traverses the sky like lightning and quickly infiltrates the ranks, these flying armies have to circle widely to turn and re-target. Before these aerial knights could complete such maneuvers, the close-at-hand mechanical clones raised their blades and split their mounts into halves.

The knights, losing their mounts, plummeted instantly. Those selected to ride flying beasts naturally possessed flight techniques; however, confronted with Pei Yan’s efficient war machines, they seemed akin to fish thrown onto dry land, becoming perfect live targets hit by beams fired from the mechanical clones’ palms. In no time, the incomplete bodies of magic beasts mixed with hit flying knights fell like dumplings from the sky.

Some fortunate members of the flying knight order forcibly heightened their elevation right before the landfall, retreating back to the city while barely skimming the troops below. Others unlucky met instant demise or crashed onto the ground, tearing them apart even before their consciousness regained, only to be instantly trampled into pulp by the hooves of the battling armies below.

Seeing Pei Yan’s mechanical clones indiscriminately slaughtering the precious aerial squad, and looking at the mages dispatched to assassinate Jiang Feiyang still failing to pinpoint their target, the impatient and enraged Urban finally made up his mind, raising his hand to command, “Forbidden curse! Prepare to attack!”

Above the city walls, the Grand Mages in charge of casting forbidden curses unfolded forbidden curse scrolls, with magic source qi already infused, and targets locked. Upon Urban’s command to strike, they wasted no time immediately activating the forbidden curse scrolls in their hands.

As masses of magical elements surged from the scrolls, the sky above Council City changed colors. Huge black clouds appeared out of nowhere in the blue sky. With the extending reach of the black clouds, oppressive crimson red light began to flicker within, along with consecutive booming sounds akin to trains roaring through tunnels erupting within their depths.
