Chapter 1489: Mockery
Chapter 1489: Chapter 1489: Mockery
Pei Yan’s attack on the Bright Faith made Urban burn with anger, yet his opponent showed no sign of stopping. Seeing Urban’s increasingly gloomy expression, Pei Yan continued to mock: "Miss Sifuer has her own faith; she’s from the Demon Race, and even in death she wishes to return to the embrace of the Demon God. Flamel killed Sifuer, and that Bright Archbishop purifying her soul, knowing this perfectly well, is tantamount to a second murder, even more vile! Do you think he should be judged equivalently for this crime? Haha, a crime is a crime, and you’re still trying to defend it. What? Does your Bright Church want all of the Demon Race to convert to your supreme faith? What next? Should the Immortal Palace believe? Should the Dragon Realm believe? Should our Investigation Bureau follow suit?"
As he spoke, Pei Yan shook his head in mockery: "No! I think we don’t need to, because you look down on us, right? Thinking this way actually makes me feel relieved."
"Hiss, hoot, hiss, hoot!" Urban was so angered by Pei Yan’s stream of attack that he could only breathe heavily, unable to think of suitable words to rebut. Pei Yan’s words had some merit, but the latter part was just a muddled smear. Yet, these words were highly provocative, leading the Demon Race audiences on another plane to shout in unison, cheering for Pei Yan’s response.
"Mr. Pei Yan, don’t stray from the topic, let’s discuss the matter at hand!" Hecate Witch found herself extremely disgusted with those fools of the Bright Church; anything handed over to them would be handled terribly. This is why the Witch Public Assistance Association and the Mage Association have grown closer, but today’s occasion required the three major councils to present a united front, so she couldn’t always stand by and watch Urban being rendered speechless by Pei Yan, stepping forward to help.
"Then let’s discuss the matter at hand!" Pei Yan, with his hands on his hips, resolutely declared: "I can make concessions! Mr. Aleister, your leader of the Mage Tower, doesn’t need to diminish his cultivation and suffer. Those mages and Knight Order members involved, according to the outcome negotiated by him and me, should be stripped of their cultivation and exiled from Council City. However, Flamel and Borgia must be executed! It doesn’t have to be by my hand! You can handle it as long as it’s done under witnesses from all sides."
The reason Pei Yan made such a compromise was to advance through retreat, because he’d already seen through that even with such conditions, Council City wouldn’t accept them. At that time, no one could say Pei Yan lacked sincerity.
"Mr. Pei Yan, I don’t understand why you are so insistent on the execution of these two people?" Hecate Witch furrowed her brows, puzzled.
"Isn’t it clear? Let me tell you a saying from our world: debt must be repaid and murder must be avenged with death; it’s only natural!" Pei Yan exhaled his anger from his chest and responded.
"Avenged with death?" Hecate Witch seemed to have heard a particularly funny joke, looked at Pei Yan and sneered: "Mr. Pei Yan, wouldn’t your world still be using such primitive rules to judge an event?"
Pei Yan raised his arm to wave at Hecate Witch and retorted: "No! No! No! I dare not say other things, but after traveling across several planes, regarding legal rules, we are far more perfected than you. In our place, just studying law requires several years of specialized learning by a person with good basic education after entering university, and going through multiple audits, before qualifying to defend others. To be able to judge others? That difficulty level requires even more improvement."
After speaking, Pei Yan proudly looked at the three in front of him disdainfully: "This rule I mentioned corresponds to your backward, primitive, ruleless world. I feel that only such primitive handling methods can warn certain barbarians against making the same foolish mistakes."
"Mr. Pei Yan!" Pei Yan’s words have already gone beyond the scope of negotiation; it was the most straightforward provocation. To have one’s civilization demeaned so bluntly as barbaric, even Aleister, a gentle and elegant old man, couldn’t tolerate it and coldly rebuked: "Watch your words, if you continue to malign the dignity of the Magic plane, there’s no need for this negotiation to proceed!"
"Aleister, why talk more with him! Just from what he said, he can be sent to the gallows and sentenced to death!" Urban roared furiously. As soon as he finished, Aleister and Hecate lowered their heads, cursing ’fool’ in their hearts.
Sure enough, Pei Yan keenly caught Urban’s words’ loophole, laughing, clapping his hands and shouting: "Hahaha! Did everyone hear? I just said one sentence, yet it’s enough to be sent to the gallows for execution! And Flamel and Borgia committed such grave crimes but are merely imprisoned? Hecate Witch, is this the rigorous legal system of your world? Haha, I think it’s more appropriate to handle using this most primitive way."
Speaking, Pei Yan didn’t give the opposition a chance to rebut, looking at Aleister, he said: "As for Aleister’s claim that I’m slandering, I don’t agree with that." Saying this, Pei Yan pointed his arm toward the sky, unveiling an image from his fingertip. The visual displayed was the siege of the Vlad Clan, at its outskirts, with Bright Bishop Meredith’s actions toward citizens captured as blood feasts, as well as Pei Yan’s dialogue with him.
As such clips played across major planes, Aleister and the other three’s expressions reached the nadir of embarrassment. Were they ashamed of this incident? No, despite Aleister’s aversion to the Bright Church’s deeds, if it had been him on site, at most, he would have worked to save these people. If unable to save them, he wouldn’t pursue the Bright Church’s responsibility afterward. This kind of thing could happen not only in the Magic plane but in any plane, even the Keystone plane.
Nonetheless, such matters were disgraceful; everyone did it, but making it clear made it quite embarrassing. After the image finished playing, Pei Yan retracted his arm and smiled at Urban: "So is this still slander? Doesn’t the Bright Church boast of saving lost lambs from darkness? Aren’t you forgiving of all sins as long as one confesses and converts? Is this your way of saving and forgiving?" Pei Yan said, curling his lips and glancing back at his companions jokingly: "If it’s just like this, I think I can too! I can do better than you."
"Mr. Pei Yan, mutual attacks have no bearing on this issue! Let’s focus on handling the present matter, avoid using irrelevant information to confuse." Aleister urgently defended the Bright Church.
