Origin Summoner: All My Summons Are Broken
Chapter 92: Sky Dancer Vs Webfiend Lord(1)
Chapter 89
"Oh? You actually managed to block that."
The Webfiend Lord tilted its head slightly, its countless eyes narrowing with a trace of genuine surprise. However, that reaction lasted only a moment before a strange chuckle escaped the creature. The sound seemed to come from whatever part of its body it used to speak, considering that there wasn’t a single visible mouth on its grotesque head.
"But you’re still too weak."
As soon as those words left its mouth, the Webfiend Lord stretched one of its hands forward, and thin webstrings emerged from its fingers. The strands spread through the air, twisting and intertwining with one another as more joined them, weaving together at astonishing speed until they formed a long, sharp spear with a silvery metallic sheen.
The weapon looked as though it had been forged from the finest silver steel, its pointed tip gleaming coldly beneath the daylight. Yet, unlike an ordinary weapon, it was formed entirely from the creature’s webstrings, which had been compressed and woven together until they possessed the appearance and sharpness of metal.
The already oppressive aura surrounding the Webfiend Lord surged outward once more.
Katherine felt her heartbeat accelerate as her instincts warned her to retreat and create some distance before the monster attacked again. Every fiber of her being recognized the danger standing before her, yet she refused to take even a single step backward.
Instead, she raised her sword and exhaled sharply, gathering her strength for the next exchange. Emerald flames flickered along the blade before growing brighter, while the wind began coiling around her body. The air beneath her feet trembled in response to the power she was gathering.
Her expression remained cold.
Without another word, Katherine launched herself toward the Webfiend Lord.
The creature watched her approach with its countless eyes, remaining completely indifferent to the woman charging toward it. In its eyes, she was merely a weak opponent foolish enough to challenge a superior existence, and it had no intention of backing down from her attack.
It met her head-on.
BAM! BOOM!
Their collision unleashed a violent shockwave that swept across the battlefield. The ground beneath them shattered, and the air rang with the sound of metal striking metal as Katherine’s sword clashed against the Webfiend Lord’s silvery spear.
However, the monster’s gaze changed slightly when it felt the power behind her attack.
The wind and flames surrounding Katherine’s blade weren’t merely decorative abilities. She had fused the two elements into a devastating combination, using the wind to amplify the cutting power of her sword while the emerald flames added their own destructive force to every strike.
The flames burned with a brilliant green glow, and the compressed wind surrounding the blade sharpened its edge to an astonishing degree. A single strike from Katherine was more than capable of slicing through the toughest steel and reducing it to molten fragments.
Combined with her combat skills, these abilities made her far more dangerous than the Webfiend Lord had initially assumed.
For the first time, the monster seemed to acknowledge that the woman before it wasn’t entirely helpless.
The battle began in earnest.
Katherine utilized her Sky Walk to the best of her abilities, treating the very air as though it were a solid surface. The skill allowed her to change direction in midair, accelerate from unexpected angles, and launch attacks from positions that ordinary warriors could never reach.
She stepped into empty space, and the air supported her weight. With another step, she twisted sideways and shot toward the Webfiend Lord from an angle that would have been impossible for an ordinary warrior to reach.
Her sword descended.
SHING!
The silvery spear rose to intercept it.
CLANG!
Sparks scattered through the air as their weapons collided. Before the Webfiend Lord could retaliate, Katherine stepped backward onto an invisible foothold, twisted her body, and launched another attack from above.
Emerald flames surged along her blade, accompanied by a spiraling current of wind that screamed as it tore through the air. The combined force of the two elements gathered around her sword, turning the descending strike into a powerful attack capable of crushing anything caught in its path.
BOOM!
The Webfiend Lord raised its spear just in time to block the blow. The impact forced its arm backward, and its feet slid across the broken ground as it struggled to absorb the force.
Katherine immediately took advantage of the brief opening.
She stepped through the air again, appearing to the creature’s left before slashing toward its neck. When the Webfiend Lord turned to meet her, she changed direction in an instant, using the invisible footholds beneath her feet to swing around its side and attack from another angle.
Her movements were fluid and unpredictable, making it difficult for the monster to anticipate where the next strike would come from. Sometimes she attacked from above, bringing her sword down with the force of a falling mountain. At other times, she swept in from the side, emerald flames trailing behind her like the tail of a blazing comet.
The battlefield became a storm of green fire, violent wind currents, and metallic clashes.
BAM!
CLANG!
BOOM!
The Webfiend Lord’s silvery spear repeatedly met Katherine’s sword, each collision releasing shockwaves that tore through the surrounding ground. Cracks spread beneath their feet, and fragments of stone scattered whenever the force of their clashes struck the earth.
Katherine’s blonde hair whipped wildly behind her as she moved through the air, her emerald eyes fixed on the monster’s movements. She knew she couldn’t afford to waste a single opportunity, especially against an opponent whose physical attributes were so far beyond her own.
Every second she spent fighting gave the creature another opportunity to adapt to her abilities. She needed to maintain the pressure, exploit every opening, and inflict as much damage as possible before the battle turned against her.
Her sword flashed again, and a powerful current of wind compressed around the blade as emerald flames erupted from its surface.
"SKYFLAME THRUST!"
Katherine brought her sword down with tremendous speed, channeling the combined force of wind and fire into the attack.
The Webfiend Lord crossed its spear and one of its elongated hands to block the incoming strike.
BOOOOM!
The resulting explosion sent dust and fragments of stone flying in every direction. For a brief moment, the force of Katherine’s attack drove the creature’s upper body backward, creating the opening she had been waiting for.
Her eyes sharpened as she immediately stepped onto the air, pushed herself forward, and launched another attack before the monster could fully recover.
Her blade swept toward its side.
The Webfiend Lord twisted to avoid the strike, but Katherine changed direction midair and pursued it, her sword leaving a trail of emerald fire as she adjusted her trajectory.
SHING!
The edge sliced across the creature’s body, leaving a thin line across its torso.
Katherine’s gaze sharpened.
She had finally landed a clean hit.
However, before she could capitalize on the opening, one of the monster’s elongated hands shot toward her from behind. Her instincts immediately warned her of the incoming attack, forcing her to twist her body at the last possible moment.
The thin limb passed dangerously close to her shoulder.
Using the momentum of her evasion, Katherine swung her sword backward, forcing the hand to retreat before it could seize her. She then landed on an invisible foothold and pushed herself away, creating enough distance to prepare for the next exchange.
The Webfiend Lord remained in the center of the ruined battlefield, its countless eyes following her every movement.
For a while, the battle appeared evenly matched.
Katherine attacked relentlessly, combining Sky Walk, her swordsmanship, wind, and emerald flames to keep the monster occupied. The Webfiend Lord defended itself with its silvery spear and additional hands, occasionally launching counterattacks that forced her to rely on every ounce of her combat experience.
Neither side seemed capable of gaining a decisive advantage, and their repeated clashes continued to shake the battlefield.
However, that balance was only temporary.
As the battle continued, the Webfiend Lord gradually began to adapt to Katherine’s fighting style. It started responding to her movements more efficiently, reducing the openings she could exploit and making it increasingly difficult for her to land another clean strike.
Perhaps the creature had finally decided to take the human woman before it seriously.
Or perhaps it had simply grown tired of allowing her to entertain herself.
Whatever the reason, the amusement that had previously filled its countless eyes gradually disappeared.
Another webstring extended from one of its hands, followed by several more. The strands twisted together and rapidly formed a long, curved weapon, its shape becoming increasingly distinct as the creature continued weaving them together.
Before long, a sharp, silvery scythe appeared in the Webfiend Lord’s grasp.
Its curved edge gleamed coldly, and its smooth, metallic surface looked as though it had been carefully forged by a master craftsman. Yet the entire weapon was made from webstrings, compressed and woven together to form a blade capable of cutting through its opponents.
The moment the scythe took shape, the atmosphere changed.
The Webfiend Lord’s gaze, which had previously regarded Katherine with mild amusement, gradually transformed. The deep, frenzied malice that filled the eyes of its underlings began to emerge from its own countless eyes, making its already unsettling appearance even more disturbing.
Its aura grew heavier, and the air around it trembled under the pressure.
Katherine sensed the change immediately.
Her instincts warned her that something had shifted in the battle, and the creature’s sudden change in demeanor left little room for doubt.
The Webfiend Lord had stopped playing.
It was about to fight for real.
And once it did, Katherine’s situation began to deteriorate.
CLANG!
The scythe collided with her sword, and the force behind the blow drove her backward. Before she could regain her footing, one of the creature’s elongated hands swept toward her from the side.
Katherine ducked beneath the incoming limb, stepped onto the air, and attempted to counterattack. She barely had time to adjust her position before the Webfiend Lord moved again, bringing its scythe upward in a swift, vicious sweep.
Katherine raised her sword just in time to intercept the attack.
BOOOOM!
