Chapter Forty One

For a being as powerful as this ancient existence, giving a being of far lower origin the title of a monster went far beyond the bounds of insanity. Yet that was exactly how he saw it.

This human kid was truly a monster. He was crossing from one floor to another as though he were on a picnic, without screaming, crying, whimpering, or even groaning from the pain.

It was almost as if he were some kind of undead. The funniest part was that even an undead being would have a hard time entering and crossing the trials Orion was currently conquering while making them look effortless.

No matter how powerful an undead was, no matter how extraordinary its body might be or how strong its resistance to pain was, it would still cry in agony and beg to be released after experiencing even a fraction of what Orion was going through.

And yet Orion, who was clearly just a human, was crossing those trials and suffering through unimaginable levels of pain without even letting out a whimper.

Just who was this kid?

No. The correct question was... Where did this monster come from?

The answer was something the being already knew. With a single thought, everything about Orion’s origin became plain for him to see.

His background, his history, the circumstances that had shaped him, and everything that could normally explain how someone like him came to exist had been laid bare before the being’s eyes.

And yet, after seeing all of it, there was still nothing that could truly explain how someone like this human kid had come to exist.

The being’s gaze never left Orion. He watched the boy move from one floor to another in a blur, almost as though the trials weren’t even there and the countless steps required to advance weren’t overwhelmingly vast.

The number of steps alone should have been enough to make an ordinary person’s mind collapse from despair. Of course, it still took countless years for Orion to advance from one floor to another.

The problem was that the flow of time within the trial ground and the real world was vastly different. While countless years continued passing inside the trial, barely any time seemed to pass in the outside world.

And so, right before the being’s eyes, Orion advanced to the 300th floor and continued moving forward.

The being’s amused smile slowly disappeared.

His face became serious as he watched Orion advance, and from that seriousness emerged something that even he rarely experienced... pure disbelief.

The human kid had reached the 400th floor.

How?

How was he doing the impossible?

The fact that Orion had crossed the 100th floor was already impossible enough, yet he had actually managed to cross the 400th floor as well.

What was happening?

Didn’t this kid have any limit?

Not long after that thought entered his mind, the being saw Orion begin clearing the Level Four trials.

The fact that each level’s trials were supremely harder and more impossible than the previous level was surely supposed to affect Orion and slow down his advancement.

That was what common sense dictated.

And yet everything, every piece of logic and every expectation, seemed to have stopped applying to this Orion kid.

Instead of slowing down as the difficulty increased, his progress only became faster with every floor he cleared. Eventually, it reached a point where it no longer looked as though he was walking.

It looked like he was running.

"How is that possible?"

The being asked himself the question once again, completely shocked by what he was witnessing. It was almost as if Orion were bending the trial to his will.

Wait...

His will.

The thought struck him suddenly.

The being immediately focused on Orion’s will, and what he discovered made even his heart shudder.

"What the hell?"

For a being at his level, it was almost impossible to imagine him doing something as mundane as cursing.

Yet he did.

He cursed, then checked again.

Perhaps his divine eyes were playing tricks on him. Perhaps he was seeing something that wasn’t actually there. But the more he confirmed what he was seeing, the more he found himself cursing under his breath.

"What in the actual hell is this kid?"

Orion’s will had only been at the beginner stage, Sturdy Will. Even that beginner-level will was enough to place him above most humans who would never manage to achieve any stage of will throughout their entire lives.

The being knew that it was possible for Orion’s will to rank up and reach higher stages after overcoming all the challenges he had faced so far.

But never in his wildest thoughts would he have expected Orion’s will to advance so much in such a short period of time that it would actually cross into Sovereign Will.

That was around ten ranks of advancement in an incredibly short interval.

How was that possible?

No wonder Orion’s will was affecting the trial before him. One had to understand that the only thing this Origin Trial truly relied upon and judged was one’s will.

If someone possessed a will powerful enough, they could resist the pain and even influence the trial to a certain degree. That was the fundamental principle behind this place.

But even knowing that, Orion was still never supposed to have crossed into Sovereign Will so soon.

Most extremely powerful powerhouses would spend their entire lives chasing Immortal Will and never get their hands on it. And when this being called those existences powerhouses, it was easy to understand just how terrifyingly powerful they truly were.

They were beings far beyond the norm, yet even those existences struggled throughout their incredibly long lives in order to attain Immortal Will.

Many of them died. Many perished in countless different ways, all while chasing that seemingly unreachable level.

And yet, right before him, the being was witnessing a mere weak mortal possessing Sovereign Will.

A will that was three times higher than Immortal Will.

The shock this being was feeling truly couldn’t be put into words.

The reason was simple.

It was boundless.

How was this human child doing this?

At this point, even calling him a monster would be ridiculing the achievement of possessing Sovereign Will at such an age.

Orion wasn’t only the first human to cross the 100th floor and continue conquering the trials. He was also the only human this being had ever seen who had achieved Sovereign Will at the age of sixteen.

Of course, if one considered Orion’s age according to the amount of time he had experienced within the trial, then he would have been alive for a couple million years, if not billions of years already.

Perhaps even more.

And yet even billions of years were still too little to achieve Sovereign Will.

That was how terrifyingly difficult it was.

Out there in the vast universe, the beings who possessed Sovereign Will could be counted.

That alone showed just how ridiculous it was to see a sixteen-year-old human possessing it. If news of this spread throughout the universe, it would shake the entire universe.

The being rubbed his face.

He already knew that he would have to be the one to erase the kid’s name from every list his name was bound to surface on soon enough.

The trial ground was currently hiding Orion’s karma and destiny from being detected by higher forces. But once he left this place, dealing with the consequences would become his responsibility.

Of course, that was assuming the kid managed to survive and wield the Origin.

Because if he didn’t, then none of this would matter.

It wouldn’t matter whether he possessed Sovereign Will or not. He would still be erased. Not even this being would be powerful enough to save him from the execution of the trial.

No.

Even he wasn’t worthy of interfering with that.

So yes, he could only watch and wait to see whether this human would continue breaking logic and advancing or whether he would finally reach his limit.

The being was now completely invested in the trial.

His gaze remained fixed on Orion as he watched every movement the kid made. Would he finally win, or would he eventually lose?

He had no idea.

The being watched as Orion’s Sovereign Will began to enact itself upon the trial. The overwhelming pressure of his will reduced the danger and difficulty of the trials by more than eighty percent.

But even then, the remaining twenty percent was still something that many beings wouldn’t even dare dream of going through.

The being shook his head.

The kid had no real grasp of his own will yet. In fact, he doubted Orion even knew that his will had changed and become this powerful.

If Orion had learned how to control it properly, then he would have been able to reduce the difficulty of the trial by more than ninety-nine percent instead of merely eighty percent.

But alas, he was still a kid after all.

Billions of years old within the trial ground, but ultimately, still a sixteen-year-old kid.

The mighty ancient being sat upon his throne, watching the kid conquer the trial and move from one floor to another.

And just when it seemed that he had already seen everything he needed to see, just when he believed that he had finally witnessed the kid’s limit and understood everything about him, the kid, who had already gone far beyond the definition of a monster, went ahead and shattered that definition once again.

The ancient being suddenly shot up from his seat.

Disbelief radiated from his entire being as his eyes widened and his expression froze completely. He stared at what was happening before him for several seconds before finally losing control of himself and shouting the same curse once more.

"What the hell?"
