Origin Summoner: All My Summons Are Broken
Chapter 26: Who Is That???!!
Chapter Twenty Six
Sir Dwaine paused as he thought about what the young man had said: a white throne in the middle of the White Palace, and that throne supposedly held the treasure they had been assigned to find.
One had to understand that the primary objective of this mission wasn’t truly to clear the dungeon or solve the mystery hidden within it; their real objective was to bring out a treasure that the mastermind behind the Scourge Guild wanted.
But there was a problem: every single thing in this place, from the white marble beneath their feet to the massive pillars holding the palace together and every other object they had encountered, was an unparalleled treasure.
Any one of them would surely satisfy the mastermind, yet the fact that a throne stood alone in the very center of this place meant something.
The throne must be the key to understanding the mystery of this dungeon, and understanding the mystery of this dungeon... that was Sir Dwaine’s true purpose for coming here.
Not the money, and certainly not all these treasures. If he could uncover the secret of this place, that would be the greatest treasure he could possibly obtain.
After thinking to this point, Sir Dwaine saw no reason not to go and see the white throne. Although, at the same time, he was ready to face whatever danger awaited them.
He believed that if the throne truly carried the secret of this place, then the danger surrounding it might be overwhelming as well, but he was ready to face it.
The trio soon met up with the other thirty-plus members of the team and headed toward the white throne. It stood at the center of the massive White Palace.
They were still quite far away from it, yet before they could even get close... their bodies suddenly tingled. A strange dread seeped into their bones.
Several warriors shivered involuntarily, their instincts urging them to step back.
James immediately noticed their hesitation. "Everyone, be careful," his expression became serious. "There must be dangers and traps surrounding this place. Stick together and support each other."
"Yes," the warriors nodded.
With extreme caution, they began approaching the white throne. The throne itself was facing away from them.
As they moved closer, everyone expected some kind of danger: traps, monsters, ambushes, anything that would force them to fight for their lives.
But... nothing happened. Instead, the strange feeling of safety around them only grew stronger.
The closer they got to the throne, the more they felt as though they had stepped into the very heart of heaven. It was almost as if the throne itself was the core of this heavenly place.
The feeling was so peaceful that several warriors gradually relaxed.
Sir Dwaine, however, didn’t allow himself to be affected by the strange bliss. Despite the serenity surrounding him, his expression remained sharp.
His instincts were screaming. Something was wrong. He remained ready to draw his sword and fight against anything that suddenly appeared.
One step. Then another. And another. The group continued walking forward, yet nothing happened.
No monsters appeared. No traps activated. No attacks came. It was almost as though they had been tense for nothing.
Orion walked at the back of the group, holding a dagger in each hand as his eyes remained fixed on the white throne.
There was something strange about it. The throne radiated an overwhelming sense of comfort, yet at the same time... the unease within Orion’s heart continued growing higher and higher.
The closer he got to the throne, the stronger that feeling became.
Just when the group had gotten close enough to the throne and no danger had appeared, the warriors lowered their guards slightly.
It seemed they had been worrying for nothing. The group took one more step... and froze.
The reason was simple: the white throne... had begun to turn, all by itself.
Creak... The sound echoed throughout the silent palace.
Sir Dwaine’s danger sense immediately flared into overdrive. His eyes widened beneath his blindfold. His hand moved instantly.
SHING!
His sword was unsheathed, his body prepared to battle whatever existence was turning to face them.
But the moment the thought of fighting whatever being sat upon that throne surfaced in his mind...
BOOM!
An overwhelming sense of dread and danger descended upon him. It was so immense that Sir Dwaine’s sword was erased in an instant.
As though he had suffered a devastating blow from an invisible behemoth, Sir Dwaine suddenly coughed up a mouthful of blood.
"Pah!"
His body staggered. He fell heavily onto one knee. His face had become deathly pale.
For the first time since entering Dungeon X... the calmness on the Blind Swordsman’s face completely disappeared. His body trembled.
His instincts screamed at him to flee, but he couldn’t. He couldn’t even move. The presence alone had crushed his will to fight.
Sir Dwaine’s blindfolded face slowly lifted toward the throne. "Who is that...?" "What is that...?"
Sir Dwaine’s mind churned as his body continued to shiver. It was as if his entire body wanted to collapse inward under the sheer pressure bearing down upon him.
The consequence of daring to draw his sword had been so catastrophic that before Old Dwaine could even regain his senses from the pain, the hand that had drawn his sword suddenly exploded.
BOOM!
His other hand, the one still holding the sword guard, exploded immediately afterward. Blood poured out in a torrent, yet before a single drop could stain the pristine white marble beneath him, the blood simply faded away, as if even the blood itself was forbidden from staining this sacred place.
Old Dwaine was drowning in pain. But amidst that unbearable agony, one thought became crystal clear in his mind: this... this was the real danger lurking within Dungeon X.
This was death.
The throne hadn’t even finished turning, and yet the strongest warrior in the group, Sir Dwaine, had already been crippled to the point where he seemed only one step away from death.
The minds of the other warriors froze, then churned violently. They wanted to flee. They wanted to run as far away from this place as possible.
But at that moment, they realized something even more terrifying: they couldn’t move. Not a single part of their bodies. Not even their fingers.
It was as if their entire bodies had been imprisoned by some overwhelming spatial ability. Dread had already swallowed the minds of the entire group.
Then... the white throne finally finished turning. And they finally saw what... or rather... who was sitting upon it.
It was a man. Or perhaps... the being merely looked like a man. The aura surrounding him was far too supremely majestic for him to be human.
Long, raven-dark hair cascaded down his body. He wore a simple white silk garment, while several moderate pieces of jewelry adorned his flawless body.
He looked perfect, unnaturally perfect.
The moment the warriors saw him...
BOOM!
An unseen force descended upon them. Every single warrior was forcibly slammed onto their knees.
It was as though the world itself had witnessed their rude and foolish act of standing in the presence of this being... and immediately corrected that blasphemy.
The force was so overwhelming that their kneecaps shattered. It didn’t matter whether they were elite-level warriors like James or a basic Level One warrior like Orion; the force was enough to crush their knees and send every single one of them into a world of agony.
"AAAGHH!"
Pain ravaged Orion’s entire body, especially his legs. Yet despite the unbearable pain, his gaze never left the being sitting upon the throne.
Just who is that...?
Dread clawed at Orion’s chest. Sir Dwaine was the strongest awakened warrior Orion had ever met, yet that same man had been completely crippled in what seemed like less than a second.
And now... this being hadn’t even moved.
Orion suddenly felt the being’s eyelids flutter. His instincts screamed: danger, danger, danger.
So much danger that Orion’s mind nearly shut down from the overwhelming warning. He reacted immediately.
He lowered his head. He didn’t dare look into those eyes.
The moment Orion looked away... the being’s eyelids slowly fluttered open. A pair of crimson-red eyes appeared.
The few warriors who were unlucky enough to look directly into them immediately screamed in extreme agony.
"AAAAAAAGHHHH!"
Their eyes exploded inside their sockets. Their heads exploded next. Then their bodies...
BOOM!
Everything exploded. Yet even the gore wasn’t given the privilege of staining the pristine white marble.
The blood, flesh, and shattered remains simply vanished into nothingness.
