Fei Yan frowned and ate his meal in silence.

Throughout the meal, Xuan Qing remained completely silent, having no interaction with Su Mo.

He was the only one spared from tonight’s ordeal.

Fei Yan vaguely sensed that the trigger for his wife’s anger might be related to Xuan Qing. An idea flashed through his mind, but he wasn’t yet certain.

’No matter. I’m with her tonight. I’ll have time to talk things through with her then.’

After dinner, Su Mo went out for a walk before returning to her room.

When Fei Yan pushed the door open and entered, he saw her standing completely still, her back turned to him.

He lay down on the outer edge of the bed, propping his head on his hand as he looked at her with a smile.

"Do you have something to ask, wife?"

Su Mo ignored him. ’They’ve really gone too far. All of them knew about Xuan Qing...’

’...and they kept it from me, and me alone!’

Fei Yan reached out and turned the sulking woman to face him. Annoyed, Su Mo leaned in and bit down on his shoulder.

Fei Yan let out a muffled groan, then asked with a light chuckle, "Feeling better? If not, feel free to take another bite."

His voice only made Su Mo angrier. She lowered her head and bit him again.

But he didn’t seem to feel any pain. Instead, a hint of excitement glinted in his eyes. "Mo’er, you have so much energy. How about we do something else first, and talk afterward?"

Su Mo narrowed her eyes. "Will you do as I say?"

"Mm."

...

Fei Yan could see it now. She was deliberately tormenting him today...

’How could a temptress like her exist in this world? With just a glance, she could ensnare a man’s Heart Soul. The light touch of her fingertips was enough to burn his reason to ashes.’

’He loved being tormented by her like this... It was mesmerizing, addictive. Even if it meant falling into an abyss of eternal damnation, he would willingly sink into it with her.’

Suppressing his spiraling emotions, Fei Yan negotiated good-naturedly, "Mo’er, my turn, hmm?"

"Good girl, Momo. My turn now."

He captured her roaming hands, rolling over to pin her beneath him.

At the height of their passion, he gazed into her desire-filled eyes and asked in a hoarse voice, "Mo’er, do you know what I fear most right now?"

Su Mo murmured dazedly, "Jiang Wu?"

A gentle smile flashed in Fei Yan’s eyes. He leaned down to kiss her honey-hued lips. "I’m afraid you’ll suddenly disappear..."

"Please don’t disappear. From the highest heavens to the netherworld, I will walk with you."

...

When they were finished, Su Mo was already growing drowsy. Her cheeks were flushed, and she looked as exquisitely alluring as a flower glistening with morning dew.

Fei Yan suppressed the urge to start all over again and held her in his arms. "You must know what the Third Young Master did for you, wife?"

Su Mo was silent.

She heard him continue, "I didn’t tell you before, for one, because I hoped you’d recover more quickly. For another... it was selfish, but I didn’t want you to know. I was afraid you’d be moved by him after finding out."

A sudden bitterness tinged his voice. "Curse me, Mo’er. I’m just that despicable. On one hand, I wanted to use the Third Young Master’s feelings for you to help you heal, but on the other, I didn’t want you to know. How could I be so terrible...?"

"I knew this day would come, but I kept deluding myself, thinking I could put it off for just one more day. I know he’s a good person—the Third Young Master. It would be completely understandable if you fell for him, wife. But in my heart, I can’t stand having him as a rival... These filthy, contradictory thoughts... I find them unbearable myself. Why don’t you just hit me a few times to let out your anger, Mo’er?"

Angry, Su Mo raised her hand as if to pinch him, but she changed her mind just as it was about to land. Instead, she gently wrapped her arms around him.

Her voice was muffled as she said, "You all really should have told me sooner. How can I possibly repay a debt like this?"

Fei Yan held her tighter, his chin brushing against her dark hair as he said softly, "The Third Young Master... is also your fiancé. He didn’t do these things to make you feel indebted."

"If for us, protecting you is both a duty and an instinct, then he shares that same duty and instinct."

"But his status is different from yours..."

"He loves you," Fei Yan interrupted in a nearly inaudible voice. "I imagine if I hadn’t said anything, the Third Young Master never would have. More than anyone, he doesn’t want these feelings to become a burden to you."

’But now that it’s all out in the open, even if Xuan Qing says nothing, she’s bound to have noticed.’

Fei Yan fell silent for a moment, as if he’d come to a difficult decision. "If you’ve started to have feelings for him, wife, then perhaps..."

After he spoke, a long moment passed with no response from the woman in his arms. He couldn’t help but look down at her.

The woman in his embrace had, at some point, fallen asleep.

Fei Yan sighed. ’Forget it.’

’When it comes to destiny, it’s three parts fate and seven parts effort. Some things the Third Young Master will have to strive for on his own.’
