Chapter 471: The Eerie State Around the Shelter
Chapter 471: Chapter 471: The Eerie State Around the Shelter
The threat facing the Imperial Capital had been completely eliminated, but other cities were still under siege from the monster hordes.
The passage connecting the two worlds had only drawn the chaotic energy surrounding the Imperial Capital into the Eternal World; elsewhere, the chaotic energy remained as powerful as before.
Thus, once the situation became clear, the Imperial Capital immediately took corresponding action.
Most of the surviving members of Morning Star were dispatched to assist other cities in eradicating the threats posed by the monster hordes. The Imperial Capital Guard and the elite fighters of the major families stayed behind to ensure the city’s safety.
Drumph, for his part, decided right away to head directly to Shelter 102 to provide support—after all, Donlow was still trapped there.
He did not take many subordinates with him, knowing that many other cities were still in urgent need of Morning Star’s aid. He chose instead to go to Shelter 102 alone.
Before leaving the Imperial Capital, he had a brief conversation with the recuperating Luca.
Luca reminded him to keep a close eye on the movements of Zenith Technology Company’s Daskhollow base during the operation.
“It’s been a while since I last contacted Nova, and I have no idea where she currently stands. Zenith Technology Company has always tried to maintain an air of mystery in front of us. That’s why I suspect Nova might take advantage of this monster horde incident to make some kind of move.”
Drumph nodded after hearing this and replied,
“I understand. I’ll be sure to keep watch. Honestly, Morning Star has never trusted Zenith Technology Company. We even have a covert squad within our ranks dedicated solely to monitoring their every move.”
Zenith Technology Company was simply too shrouded in secrecy.
This made it impossible for anyone to fully trust them. Even those who had cooperated with Zenith Technology Company in the past had done so only out of desperation—if they’d had a better option, they would never have chosen to work with them.
Drumph’s response left Luca quite satisfied.
“Go on, get moving! My family is in Shelter 102 as well, after all.”
He began urging Drumph to set off without delay.
With a nod, Drumph departed immediately.
Watching Drumph’s figure fade into the distance, Luca murmured quietly to himself.
“Do you think his mission will go smoothly?”
“I’m certain it won’t go smoothly at all,” Sophia replied without hesitation. “The chaotic energy around Shelter 102 is still extremely strong. That means the monsters there are going to be very hard to deal with.”
What Sophia said made perfect sense, so Luca, after hearing her words, slowly nodded and then closed his eyes to rest.
He felt he had already done everything he could.
The rest was something he could safely leave to others.
Drumph boarded a helicopter from the rooftop of Morning Star’s headquarters and headed straight for Shelter 102.
However, when they were still about ten kilometers away from the shelter, the helicopter was forced to land.
“Sir, the chaotic energy ahead is simply too strong! The helicopter can’t continue forward safely,” the pilot said helplessly.
Drumph nodded, then immediately jumped out of the helicopter.
“Head back right away,” he ordered.
Without another glance, he strode straight into the zone where the chaotic energy was at its densest.
Once Drumph had leapt out, the helicopter pilot promptly chose to turn around and leave—after all, he still had other assignments to handle.
Before this monster horde descended, Morning Star had possessed more than enough aircraft. But during the assault, a large portion of their fleet had been destroyed.
That meant the remaining aircraft now had to shoulder much heavier flight duties.
The chaotic energy surrounding Shelter 102 was indeed formidable, but strangely, there didn’t seem to be many monsters present.
Drumph didn’t encounter a single monster along the way—until he reached the point where he could see the main gate of Shelter 102 in the distance. That was when he came across the first one.
It was a weak monster, and Drumph dispatched it effortlessly.
“What’s going on here? Where have all the monsters gone? If the monsters have disappeared, then why is there still such a powerful concentration of chaotic energy here?”
These questions swirled in his mind.
The unsettling nature of the surroundings forced him to slow his pace.
It took him a full quarter of an hour to finally arrive at the shelter’s entrance.
Standing guard at the gate, Fuzzsir spotted him at once.
“Are you Lord Drumph?” Fuzzsir shouted loudly in his direction.
Drumph stepped closer and gave a nod.
“I’m Drumph. Open the shelter gate immediately!”
Hearing this confirmation, Fuzzsir was overjoyed and moved to open the gate—
but at that moment, Donlow’s voice rang out from not far away.
“Don’t open the gate! What if the Drumph in front of us is actually a monster in disguise? If we open the gate and let it in, the shelter will be overrun!”
Donlow’s words made Fuzzsir pause.
He froze where he stood, his eyes locked firmly on Drumph, scrutinizing him from head to toe.
Drumph, however, didn’t take offense at Donlow’s suspicion.
In fact, he thought she was absolutely right to be cautious.
“Then how do you suggest I prove my identity?” Drumph asked in a calm, even tone.
Donlow had by now walked right up to the gate herself, sizing him up as well.
After thinking for a moment, she asked slowly,
“Before the monsters descended upon the real world, which shopping mall did I visit most often?”
Her question caught Drumph completely off guard.
He had expected Donlow to ask something else entirely—
never in his wildest thoughts had he imagined she would bring up a shopping mall.
Before the monsters came, he had been constantly occupied with his own work.
How on earth was he supposed to know which mall Donlow frequented the most?
Drumph began to feel awkward, a flicker of discomfort showing on his face.
Noticing this subtle change in his expression, Donlow’s lips curled into a faint smirk.
“So you really are an impostor! If you were truly Drumph, you’d know the answer to that question. Your disguise is laughably crude.”
Her tone dripped with mockery.
Then she turned to Fuzzsir.
“Well? What are you standing around for? Attack this monster right now! Or do you still believe he’s really Drumph?”
Prompted by her words, Fuzzsir immediately launched an attack on Drumph.
The man, who had only been feeling mildly uncomfortable a moment ago, hadn’t expected Fuzzsir to actually strike.
His anger flared instantly.
“So you really dare to go through with this! If I can’t convince you with my answers, then I’ll make you believe me through my fighting style instead!”
Facing Fuzzsir’s assault, Drumph immediately unleashed the move he was most skilled at—and the one he used most often.
The moment they saw it, both Fuzzsir and Donlow were taken aback.
“What’s going on here? Can a monster, while disguised as a human, really use the same skills?”
Fuzzsir halted his attack and, with a trace of hesitation, turned to Donlow for an answer.
Donlow shook her head.
“I have no idea! But we should play it safe. Keep attacking him, and see if the next moves he uses are also the ones we remember.”
Under Donlow’s command, Fuzzsir continued to press his attacks against Drumph.
The clash between them looked fierce, but in truth, neither side was going all out.
Both were merely probing each other.
After several more minutes of back-and-forth, Fuzzsir and Donlow finally became convinced that the man before them was indeed the real Drumph.
An embarrassed look crept across Donlow’s face.
With a touch of complaint in her voice, she said,
“If you really are Drumph, then why couldn’t you answer my question? Was it really such a tricky one?”
Fuzzsir, wearing a fawning smile, hurried to open the gate.
He ran right up to Drumph, apologizing over and over.
“It was all a misunderstanding! If I had known from the start you were the real one, how could I possibly have attacked you? Donlow can vouch for me—she was wrong in her judgment too.”
Drumph waved his hand dismissively.
He had no intention of holding this against Fuzzsir. In fact, he thought both Fuzzsir and Donlow had acted perfectly reasonably.
“You did the right thing. There’s never any harm in being cautious.”
His words finally allowed the two of them to breathe easier.
“Your coming here must mean the battle at the Imperial Capital is over, right? The monster horde there has been completely wiped out?” Fuzzsir asked quickly.
Drumph’s expression grew solemn as he nodded.
“The monster horde at the Imperial Capital has been completely destroyed, and most of the chaotic energy around it has already dissipated.”
Hearing this, smiles spread even wider across Fuzzsir’s and Donlow’s faces.
“That means the threat facing Shelter 102 will soon be taken care of as well,” Donlow said.
But Drumph shook his head.
“The situation around the shelter is a bit strange. On my way here, I didn’t encounter a single monster, yet the chaotic energy in the area is incredibly dense.
What’s going on? Where have all the monsters gone? Or… could it be that every single one of them has been converted into chaotic energy?”
The questions he posed were ones neither Donlow nor Fuzzsir could answer.
The two of them had repelled multiple waves of monster horde attacks in the past, and to them, the monsters’ sudden disappearance had simply seemed like a lull between assaults.
They hadn’t thought much of it at the time.
But after hearing Drumph’s words, both of them began to realize that something wasn’t quite right.
“We originally thought the monsters’ sudden disappearance was just a gap between two waves of attacks. But this lull has gone on for far too long… so where exactly did they all go?” Fuzzsir murmured in puzzlement.
None of the three could come up with an answer in such a short time.
So they decided to carefully scout the area around the shelter.
Perhaps, by doing so, they could gather more intelligence—and in turn, uncover the truth behind the mystery.
