Chapter 88: Entering the Elemental Temple, The Elemental Chamber

Chapter 88: Chapter 88: Entering the Elemental Temple, The Elemental Chamber

Rumble!

The [Elemental Temple] remained hidden, completely concealed from everyone who entered this place.

No matter where someone looked, no matter how carefully they searched, there was no sign of it at all.

It was as if it simply did not exist.

The only way to reveal it was to hold the power of all four basic elements at the same time.

Only then could the “ancient seal” be unlocked.

And the fact that it had not been opened in a very long time meant only one thing.

Leon was definitely among the very first to ever open it.

After all, if the requirement was to possess each of the four basic elemental sub-talents, then it was obvious no one else but him could even meet the conditions.

It also meant Emilia could not do it either.

Leon understood that well. This place was clearly designed to reject anyone who did not meet its strict requirements.

Still, based on what he could already feel in the air, this [Elemental Temple] would be extremely dangerous anyway. There was no reason to risk it for anyone else.

Completing an S-Rank assessment would already grant massive rewards. That alone would be enough for almost any player.

But Leon was not “almost any player.” He wanted more than that.

And so, no matter what waited for him inside, he intended to go through with it.

Rumble!

The ground shook violently beneath his feet. After nearly a full minute, the massive structure that had been rising from underground finally revealed itself completely.

It was, without a doubt, a gigantic temple.

Its stone walls were worn and ancient, covered in countless marks left behind by time.

Yet despite that age, the entire structure emitted a powerful glow. Traces of fire, water, wind, and earth pulsed faintly through the stone, weaving together in a way that felt unnatural.

This was not something built recently. This was something old. Very old.

Slam!

At the front of the temple stood a massive gate. Four seals were engraved into it, each one corresponding to a different element.

In front of the gate were four pedestals, each holding a glowing orb. One after another, the orbs shot forward.

The seals shattered instantly. The gate rumbled as it slowly opened, revealing nothing but pitch-black darkness beyond it.

“Damn,” Leon muttered as he stared at the open entrance. The darkness almost seemed alive, as if it were calling him in. “I guess I can’t back out anymore anyway.”

Not that he had planned to.

Without hesitation, Leon took a step forward. Then, in the next instant, he dashed toward the structure at full speed.

No matter what awaited him inside, if this place was even remotely comparable to the [Divine Hall], or if it could grant a reward on the level of the [Celestial] title, then he would claim it.

Fwoosh!

The closer Leon got to the [Elemental Temple], the more violently the elements around him began to react.

Flames burst into existence along the path, clinging to his skin as if trying to burn him alive.

Water particles condensed into sharp droplets, attempting to pierce straight through his body.

Powerful gusts of wind slammed into him from all sides, trying to throw him off balance, while the earth beneath his feet trembled, rising and shifting to knock him down.

Yet despite all of that… None of it affected Leon.

The reason was simple: each of his elemental sub-talents responded instantly, forming an invisible layer of protection around him.

Fire could not burn him. Water could not pierce him. Wind could not push him away. Earth could not destabilize him.

The elements recognized him. Or rather, they were forced to acknowledge him.

If anyone without all four basic elemental sub-talents had tried to approach this place, they would have died long before reaching the gate.

This was the [Elemental Temple]’s true protective measure. Not only was it nearly impossible to discover in the first place, but even if someone did find it, they would be erased before ever stepping inside.

Leon rushed forward unhindered. And soon, he stood before the massive gate.

He stepped through.

Ding!

[You are about to enter the “Elemental Temple”]

[It is not advised to enter if not prepared, there is a ferocious being inside that guards “it”.]

Leon glanced at the panel for less than a second before closing it without hesitation. He had already made his decision.

He stepped forward again. Straight into the darkness.

Ding!

[You have entered the “Elemental Temple”]

Leon’s vision went completely dark. His surroundings vanished, replaced by nothingness.

For a brief moment, he felt as though he were floating, suspended between two places.

The anticipation hung thick in the air.

Then—

Fwoosh!

Leon emerged on the other side. His vision returned instantly as he arrived inside the [Elemental Temple].

The first thing he noticed was the sheer size of the place.

He stood within a massive chamber, so large it was difficult to grasp its full scale at once.

Dozens of enormous pillars lined the room, each one cracked and fractured.

From those cracks, faint lights of different colors seeped out: red, blue, grey and brown. Each representing a different element.

The air itself felt heavy.

Leon remained perfectly still, his senses fully alert. The warning panel flashed through his mind again.

A guard. And “it.”

That meant there was something here. Something alive. And whatever it was protecting had to be extremely important.

To be honest, Leon had expected the [Elemental Temple] to be a massive zone filled with countless monsters.

But instead, there was only this single chamber.

At the far end of the room stood another massive door. Unlike the entrance, this one was sealed shut by a gigantic lock.

Engraved onto the lock was the symbol of two glowing eyes, staring outward as if watching anyone who approached.

“Oh well,” Leon said with a grin, tightening his grip around his staff and sword. “My [Combat Power]’s still around 85,000. I don’t think anything here could even come close…”

He took a few cautious steps forward.

The walls of the chamber were covered in countless depictions and engravings.

Most of them made absolutely no sense to him. The shapes were strange, the patterns unfamiliar, as if they were telling a story written in a language long forgotten.

Leon ignored them and continued forward.

Then, as he reached the midpoint of the chamber, he looked up. And froze.

There, carved high into the wall, was a depiction he could understand. A dragon.

Its massive body was surrounded by all four elements, each one swirling around it in perfect harmony.

And the exact moment Leon processed what he was seeing—

“An intruder after so long,” a deep voice echoed through the chamber. “Too bad.”

BOOM!

A violent explosion erupted directly where Leon stood. Fire, water, wind, and earth collided at once, releasing an overwhelming burst of elemental power.

Leon’s [Darkness Barrier], which he kept active at all times, shattered instantly.

His eyes widened as he was forced backward by the impact. And when he looked ahead—

“Oh.”

Before him stood a massive dragon.

Its body towered over the chamber, its glowing scales reflecting each of the four elements.

Its massive jaw opened slightly, revealing rows of sharp teeth, while its eyes locked onto Leon with cold, unblinking focus.

“A dragon this early?!” Leon exclaimed, his eyes widening even further. “Holy shit.”

He immediately retreated a few steps and activated [Appraisal].

Dragons were known as some of the strongest beings in [Eternal Ascension]. Just encountering one was rare enough.

But finding one here?

[Guardian Dragon of Elements (Temple Boss)]

[Level: 25]

[Exclusive Talent: Elemental Master (S-Level)]

[Combat Power: 100,000]

[Details: A dragon tasked with protecting whatever lays deep inside the “Elemental Temple”, after so long inside of this place, it has mastered each of the four basic elements to stop anyone from intruding.]

Leon stared at the panel, his expression tightening. A [Combat Power] of 100,000.

It was the highest value he had ever seen from any level 25 entity, player or monster alike.

It was even higher than his own, clearly demonstrating the terrifying strength of dragons.

Anyone else who came here, even someone who technically met the requirements to clear this assessment, would quickly realize their mistake.

Most would not even survive the initial attack.

“I truly thought no one would ever enter this place again,” the dragon said as it focused its power, the four elements swirling around its body with increasing intensity. “But now that you’re here… you’ll be a test subject for my new abilities.”

Leon did not reply. He simply adjusted his footing, lowered his center of gravity, and took his combat stance.

No matter what stood in his way, he was ready to fight.
