Chapter 43: Basic Necromancy Sub-Talent, Spectral Flames
Chapter 43: Chapter 43: Basic Necromancy Sub-Talent, Spectral Flames
Leon’s gaze lingered on the list of items floating in front of him, one after another, his grin slowly widening as he took everything in.
[Undead Knight Essence x5: Consuming will increase constitution by 8.]
[Undead King Essence: Consuming will increase spirit by 10 and constitution by 5.]
[Undead King Scepter (Epic): +500 Magic Attack, +500 Spirit, +300 Agility. Requirement: Level 15.]
[Undead Knight Armor x5 (Elite): +600 Defense, +400 Constitution, -100 Agility. Requirement: Level 15.]
[Materials: Undead Core x6, Corrupted Bones x11]
[Sub-Talent Scrolls: Spirit Enhancement (D-Level), Basic Necromancy (E-Level)]
[Skill Book: Spectral Flames (Epic)]
“Pretty good,” Leon nodded in approval, a satisfied smile spreading across his face.
For a single dungeon run, especially one taken far earlier than recommended, this haul was absurd.
Any other player would have considered themselves lucky to walk out with half of this.
Yet for Leon, it was simply confirmation that choosing the [Hard] difficulty had been the correct decision.
Then another panel appeared.
Ding!
[25/25 Undead Core, 50/50 Corrupted Bones, 1/1 Undead King Heart.]
[You have acquired all the materials needed for Merek’s quest. Return to him to complete it.]
“Got enough,” Leon said, turning toward Emilia with a grin. “We can return.”
As if on cue, a teleportation portal formed in the center of the chamber.
Pale blue light swirled quietly, stable and inviting. Stepping through it would immediately send them out of the dungeon.
Emilia stared at the portal, then back at Leon, confusion written all over her face.
“But… we don’t have enough materials for both of us,” she said slowly. “There’s only one heart. Won’t only one of us complete the quest?”
“No,” Leon shook his head without hesitation. “Trust me. We’ll both get a resurrection stone.”
She blinked at him, clearly unsure how that was even possible.
Still, after everything she had seen so far, doubting him felt pointless.
“…Alright,” she nodded. “I trust you.”
From the fight against the Undead King and his knights, Emilia had leveled up to level 12.
She hadn’t received anywhere near as many items as Leon, but that was expected. Her drop rate was normal. His was anything but.
Leon didn’t waste time. He consumed all the essences immediately.
Ding!
[+40 Strength, +10 Spirit, +5 Constitution.]
The increase was modest compared to some of his other gains, but every point mattered.
At higher levels, even small increases translated into noticeable boosts in combat power.
Next, Leon attempted to fuse the Undead Knight Armor pieces. One attempt failed. The second succeeded.
Ding!
[Undead Knight Armor +2 (Elite): +800 Defense, +500 Constitution, -80 Agility. Requirement: Level 15.]
“Not bad,” Leon muttered.
He couldn’t equip it yet due to the level requirement, but the stats were solid.
Heavy armor like this was meant for frontline fighters, and once he reached level 15, it could serve as a temporary upgrade.
Leon then turned toward Emilia and casually tossed two items her way.
“You can take these,” he said. “The scepter and the skill book.”
Emilia caught them reflexively, then froze when she saw what they were.
The [Undead King Scepter]. And an Epic skill book. Her eyes widened.
“You’re giving these to me?” she asked, clearly shocked.
“I can’t use the scepter,” Leon replied calmly. “And while I could learn [Spectral Flames], it’ll benefit us more if you do. You getting stronger helps me too.”
For a moment, Emilia just stared at him. Then suddenly, she hugged him.
“Thanks—!”
Realizing what she had done a split second later, she pulled back instantly, her face turning bright red.
“S-Sorry!”
Leon blinked, then chuckled softly. “It’s fine.”
Trying to hide her embarrassment, Emilia immediately focused on the skill book. She poured mana into it without hesitation.
Fwoosh!
The book dissolved into motes of light that flowed into her body.
Ding!
[You have learned “Spectral Flames”]
“Yes,” Emilia smiled, clearly pleased. She then stored the Undead King Scepter away for later use.
Leon nodded. “Your skills are still underleveled, though. We’ll need a lot of [Skill Stones].”
“I know…” Emilia sighed lightly. “They’re hard to find.”
“I already have a place in mind,” Leon replied.
A place that could supply skill stones in bulk. A dangerous place, but perfect. It wasn’t time to go there yet. Not now.
Leon shifted his attention to the last items left in his storage: the sub-talent scrolls.
He took out the first one: [Spirit Enhancement (D-Level)]
Without hesitation, he poured mana into it and tore it apart.
Ding!
[Congratulations, you have learned the D-Level Sub-Talent: “Spirit Enhancement”]
[Spirit Enhancement (D-Level): Permanently increases spirit by 30%.]
Leon exhaled slowly.
“Amazing.”
With this, all four of his core attributes were now enhanced by sub-talents. Strength, agility, constitution, and spirit, each one boosted permanently.
He would need to find ways to evolve them further, but for now, this alone was already monstrous.
Then there was the last scroll: [Basic Necromancy (E-Level)]
Leon paused for a moment. This was rare. Extremely rare.
Necromancy-related monsters were uncommon to begin with. Getting a sub-talent scroll from one was even rarer. And unless your talent or title was tied to necromancy, there were very few ways to acquire something similar.
Even in his past life, Leon had only met a handful of necromancers.
Among them, one stood above the rest. The [UndeadLiege] was her ID.
A player capable of summoning thousands of undead soldiers, wiping out entire armies alone.
Leon shook his head lightly.
“No point thinking about that now.”
He poured mana into the scroll and tore it apart.
Ding!
[Congratulations, you have learned the E-Level Sub-Talent: “Basic Necromancy”]
Unlike the others, this sub-talent’s panel was larger. Leon immediately opened it.
—
[Basic Necromancy (E-Level): You become a novice necromancer, able to summon undead skeletons to aid you.]
[Skeleton Summon Limit: 3.]
[Each summoned skeleton has 25% of your base stats.]
—
“Interesting.”
That meant as Leon grew stronger, his summoned skeletons would scale with him.
Right now, each one would only have around four to five hundred points in their main stats.
Enough to distract enemies, maybe help with weaker monsters, but not enough to pose a real threat. Still, the potential was there.
“I’ll have to test it later,” Leon murmured. “And find ways to boost them.”
For now, he was satisfied.
“Done?” Emilia asked with a grin. “You spent more time on loot than on the actual fight.”
“I get a lot,” Leon shrugged. “And yeah. It’s related to my talent.”
“That just makes me more curious~”
Leon smiled but didn’t answer. He could tell her. He trusted her.
But revealing it now wouldn’t change anything as it didn’t help in battle. His talent only truly mattered after enemies were dead.
Fwoosh!
“Wait,” Leon said as they were about to head out, “Grab this.”
Leon tossed all of the materials required for the quest to Emilia, who held them all in her hands and…
Ding!
[You have acquired all the materials needed for Merek’s quest…]
She also received the panel.
“Alright.”
Leon then took the items once more and stored them in his storage space except for some of the [Corrupted Bones].
The two stepped into the portal, light enveloping them.
In the next instant, they reappeared outside the [Undead Temple].
Without stopping, they headed back toward [Hub City].
Along the way, a stray monster crossed their path. Emilia raised her scepter and activated her newly learned skill.
Spectral Flames!
Ghostly fire surged forward, engulfing the monster and reducing it to ash almost instantly.
Her eyes lit up.
“Nice,” she said happily. “I’ve got two attacking spells now.”
Leon nodded.
He didn’t even consider going back to farm the Undead King for the skill himself, as that wasn’t possible.
Once a dungeon’s [Hard] difficulty was cleared, it couldn’t be challenged again.
A harsh restriction. Still, there were plenty of other skills out there.
Eventually, they reached [Hub City] and made their way through the streets to Merek’s alchemist shop.
“Oh?” Merek’s eyes widened when he saw them. “Did you…?”
Leon answered by placing the materials on the counter.
“All of them,” he said. “And this quest is completed for both of us.”
Merek didn’t question it.
He simply laughed, scooped everything up, and immediately got to work, his expression full of excitement.
