Chapter 41: Emilia’s First Sub-Talent, Reaching The Final Chamber

Chapter 41: Chapter 41: Emilia’s First Sub-Talent, Reaching The Final Chamber

The mutated undead ghoul was massive.

It stood nearly three times taller than the normal ones, its twisted body stretched and reinforced by corrupted energy.

Its skin was thick, gray, and cracked, as if it had been stitched together from several corpses and forcefully kept alive.

Each time it swung its oversized claws at Leon, the air itself seemed to tear.

Boom!

Leon narrowly dodged to the side, and the claws slammed into the stone floor instead. Deep grooves were carved into the ground, spreading outward like spiderweb cracks.

“…That thing’s strength is on another level,” Leon muttered.

Slash!

He lunged forward and struck, his blade cutting across the ghoul’s torso.

Blackened blood sprayed out, but the monster barely staggered. It simply let out a low, distorted growl and swung again.

Leon raised his hand instinctively.

Darkness Barrier!

A semi-transparent wall of black energy formed in front of him just as the claws crashed into it.

Crack!

Leon’s eyes narrowed.

Unlike the previous [Undead Zombies], the barrier didn’t fully absorb the impact. Thin cracks spread across its surface, pulsing faintly before stabilizing.

“So it can actually damage it,” Leon noted calmly.

That alone told him everything he needed to know. This wasn’t something he could casually tank forever.

Powerful Fireball!

A blazing sphere of compressed flames formed above Leon’s palm and shot forward. It slammed directly into the mutated ghoul’s chest.

Boom!

The explosion engulfed its upper body in fire. The monster roared in pain and was forced several steps backward, its scorched flesh smoking heavily.

“Now,” Leon said simply.

Emilia had already prepared herself.

She lifted her staff without hesitation, holy light gathering at its tip.

Divine Beam!

A radiant beam of white light shot forward and pierced straight through the ghoul’s shoulder.

BOOM!

The arm exploded into fragments of bone and decayed flesh, crashing to the ground. The mutated undead ghoul staggered violently, its balance thrown off, but it didn’t fall.

“It’s still alive?” Emilia gasped.

“That thing’s durable,” Leon sighed.

Before either of them could press the advantage, movement erupted around them.

The remaining undead ghouls finally acted.

Several of them rushed forward at the same time, their claws raised high, their jaws hanging open as dark energy poured from their mouths.

Their footsteps echoed through the chamber as they closed the distance rapidly.

Strength Buff!

Golden light enveloped Leon once more, sinking into his body.

Ding!

[Your Strength has been doubled from the buff.]

Leon felt the familiar surge of power rush through his muscles. His grip tightened around his sword as he focused everything into a single motion.

For a brief moment, the world slowed.

Then—

Crescent Slash!

A massive crescent-shaped blade of energy surged forward from Leon’s sword. It swept through the chamber in a wide arc, passing through every ghoul in its path.

Shhk!

The sound was clean and decisive.

The normal ghouls were cut in half instantly, their bodies collapsing to the ground before they even realized what had happened.

Even the mutated one wasn’t spared.

The crescent struck its lower body, severing both legs and sending the upper half crashing heavily onto the floor.

The creature writhed briefly, disoriented and enraged, clawing uselessly at the stone.

Lightning Strike!

Leon raised his sword once more, lightning gathering around the blade before crashing down in a blinding flash.

Crack!

The bolt struck the mutated ghoul directly in the head.

Its body twitched once… then went still. Silence filled the chamber.

Ding!

[You have killed x5 “Undead Zombie” and gained 3,250 experience points.]

[You have killed x6 “Undead Ghoul” and gained 3,500 experience points.]

[You have killed “Undead Ghoul (Mutated)” and gained 1,200 experience points.]

[100% Drop Rate has triggered…]

Leon exhaled slowly, lowering his sword.

But before he could even open his storage panel—

Ding!

[Congratulations, you have leveled up to Level 12!]

[Due to “Heaven’s Blessing”, you have gained 100 points in all attributes, and 100 free points to distribute.]

“Hah,” Leon grinned. “Higher difficulty dungeons really are the best.”

“You leveled up again?!” Emilia stared at the party panel in disbelief. “That’s… that’s incredible.”

Leon’s level had jumped once more, widening the gap between him and most players their level.

Thanks to the fact that Emilia’s [Strength Buff] counted as technical assistance, she also received a share of the kills.

Her own experience increased noticeably, even if she hadn’t landed the final blows.

Leon didn’t hesitate. He immediately allocated all 100 free points into [Spirit].

He could already feel the difference. His mana pool expanded, and the flow of energy within him became smoother and denser.

After that, both of them looked ahead. The chamber was completely empty now.

No more enemies. Which meant only one thing.

“This should be the last stretch,” Leon said.

They advanced deeper into the [Undead Temple], descending toward its lowest level. Along the way, Leon absorbed the monster essences he had obtained.

Ding!

[+59 Strength, +24 Agility, +10 Constitution.]

He nodded slightly. Solid gains.

More importantly, the materials dropped were exactly what he needed.

[+12 Undead Cores, +25 Corrupted Bones.]

Leon checked the quest requirements briefly.

“…Yeah,” he muttered. “I’m almost done.”

At this point, the boss was guaranteed to give him whatever was missing.

Aside from materials, he also received several rare items. Six [Sub-Talent Scrolls: Agility Enhancement (E-Level)].

And one [Agility Enhancement (D-Level)] scroll from the mutated ghoul.

Leon didn’t waste any time.

The first thing he did was attempt to fuse them with his existing sub-talent.

Ding!

[Fusion failed.]

The first attempt failed. He tried again.

Ding!

[Fusion failed.]

Third attempt.

Ding!

[Fusion failed.]

Leon frowned slightly, but remained calm.

Fourth attempt—

Ding!

[Fusion successful.]

[You have evolved “Agility Enhancement (E-Level)” to “Agility Enhancement (D-Level).]

“Good,” Leon said quietly.

He didn’t even pause to read the description.

Instead, he immediately used the D-Level scroll as well.

And—

Ding!

[Fusion successful.]

“Oh shit,” Leon blurted out instinctively.

Emilia turned toward him, confused. “What happened?”

“It worked,” Leon said, grinning.

[You have evolved “Agility Enhancement (D-Level)” to “Super Agility Enhancement (C-Level).]

The name had changed slightly, but that wasn’t what mattered most.

Leon opened the description.

[Super Agility Enhancement (C-Level): Permanently increases agility by 50%.]

“…Hah.”

Leon closed the panel slowly.

Just the thought of how powerful this sub-talent could become at higher levels made his heart race slightly.

If it reached B-Level, or even A-Level, his movement speed would become absurd.

Still, he had two sub-talent scrolls left. Without hesitation, he handed them to Emilia.

“Huh?” She blinked in confusion, then looked at the items.

Her eyes widened instantly.

“N-No way?!”

Sub-talents were absurdly rare.

Most players wouldn’t even see one until they were deep within the [Lower Domain], and even then, the drop rates were terrible.

Not every monster could drop them, and even when they did, there was no guarantee it would be a useful one.

The fact that Leon was giving her two without hesitation felt unreal.

“Thank you,” Emilia said sincerely, bowing slightly.

She learned the sub-talent and then fused it with the second scroll.

Ding!

[Fusion successful.]

She gained [Agility Enhancement (D-Level)], noticeably improving her movement speed.

After finishing their preparations, the two descended the final flight of stairs. At the bottom stood an enormous ancient door.

Its surface was covered in old, intricate runes, mixed with unmistakable undead symbols. A heavy pressure seeped from it, far stronger than anything they had felt so far.

Leon studied it briefly.

“Definitely something exclusive to the [Hard] difficulty,” he mumbled.

The boss of the [Easy] and [Normal] difficulty was the [Death Revenant]. Strong, yes, but nothing compared to what awaited them here.

Leon pushed the door open.

Creeeak!

The sound echoed as the massive doors slowly parted. Beyond them lay the boss chamber.

It was vast, ominous, and dimly lit by flickering torches embedded into the walls.

The air was heavy, thick with death energy, pressing down on them like an invisible weight.

“Makes me realize something,” Emilia said quietly, shivering. “We were running this place at level 10 and 11… even though it’s a level 15 zone.”

Leon didn’t respond. His eyes were locked onto the center of the chamber.

There, standing calmly, was the ruler of this place.

“A human and an elf,” a cold voice echoed, “entering my temple and slaughtering my undead…”

The figure slowly turned toward them.

“Pathetic.”

A towering being clad in an obsidian robe stood before them, a scepter gripped tightly in its skeletal hand. Its eyes burned with malevolent green flames.

The [Undead King].

Appraisal!

Both Leon and Emilia activated it instantly.

[Undead King (Zone Boss)]

[Level: 15]

[Combat Power: 16,000]

[Talent: Spirit Enhancement (D-Level), Basic Necromancy (E-Level)]

[Details: The ruler of the Undead Temple, commander of all undead within this domain.]

Leon tightened his grip on his sword and staff. Emilia raised her scepter.

The fight was about to begin.
