Chapter 358: There’s A Queen? The Training Grounds
Leon didn’t plan to stay long in the imperial kingdom anyway, as he mainly needed a place to stay while looking for things to prepare for the [Eternal Battlefield] and also get stronger to get rid of his enemies once and for all when the time was right.
’Also need to focus on evolving Alphox, finding the [Hunter] and finally getting to the [Tower of Souls] before it’s too late,’ he thought, running through his mental checklist of things he needed to accomplish.
The [Hunter] as said many times before was an extremely powerful native who could roam across the domains to find a "worthy" player to test and potentially reward with something great.
You gained his favor by showing him the "trophies" of the bosses you defeated and then... who knows what happened after that, it was all a mystery that few players had ever unraveled.
Leon had met him once in [Higher Domain #54] and was rejected since he hadn’t been worthy.
He had been told the [Hunter] travels across all domains constantly, never staying in one place for long, making him incredibly difficult to find.
The chances of meeting him were absolutely abysmal given how vast the domains were and how many players existed within them, but Leon had to try at least if he could because the rewards were supposedly worth it.
Otherwise, he could simply ask [Divine Answer] to find him, but that would cost him another precious use of the limited skill, and he had to be careful.
’[Divine Answer] might be the most useful skill in terms of information in all of [Eternal Ascension], but why only three uses total...’ Leon lamented.
Anyone would kill to have something like this, but of course it had to be limited to prevent it from being too overpowered.
If only there was a way to increase the amount of uses somehow, that would change everything and open up so many possibilities.
Leon almost wanted to ask the skill itself how to get more uses of it, or a skill somewhat similar, but the answer would likely be "you can’t" and he would have wasted a use for nothing.
But if there was indeed a way to get more uses... Leon would do anything to get it, because the information provided by [Divine Answer] was simply too valuable to ignore.
"Alright, let’s go," Leon said to the girls as he held their hands and used the world map to teleport out before any player could approach them with questions or requests.
Fwoosh!
The three of them appeared right outside of the [Moon Crescent] inn, the familiar sight of the cozy building greeting them as they materialized on the quiet street.
"Alright, now that you’re officially a citizen of the city," Celeste smiled brightly, happy that everything had gone smoothly, "You can access all the facilities and services that the kingdom has to offer!"
"All players can access them as part of the imperial program or whatever," Emilia continued, "The kingdom actually is pretty boring overall compared to other places, but many players remain here simply because of the surroundings filled with monsters and the opportunities here to get stronger and level up."
"I heard that some players even join the imperial army," Celeste scratched her chin thoughtfully, "Though that doesn’t sound that good honestly, I wouldn’t want to take orders from those lizard guards."
"Still," Emilia grinned, "As long as you have money in this place... you can basically do anything you want, which is nice."
"Yeah, you’ll see what I mean soon enough," Celeste nodded knowingly, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
The two girls guided Leon toward another part of the kingdom, with even more guards than before stationed at every corner, their eyes watching everyone who passed by.
"There are three main facilities in the kingdom," Celeste whispered as she saw the sneers of the guards on them, "The [Imperial Colosseum], the [Training Grounds] and the [Excursion]."
The [Imperial Colosseum] was the place where players could fight one another to the death for riches and fame, sometimes the fights being so important that even the queen herself came to watch and participate in the spectacle.
"Wait, the queen?" Leon asked, surprised by the mention of royalty.
"Yeah, the imperial queen, never seen her myself, but she’s strong I guess from what everyone says."
’Another enemy?’ Leon’s eyes glinted with interest.
After spending so long in [Eternal Ascension], it was always obvious to Leon that the leader of a city or major spot was always an "evil" native in some way or another, and this queen was likely no exception.
Though getting to her would be practically impossible given all the layers of protection around her and the army that served her.
The sheer amount of guards protecting her and her own personal strength would make it impossible for even level 100 players to attempt this feat successfully without an army of their own.
"What about the other two facilities?" Leon asked, turning his attention back to the present.
"The [Training Grounds] are the most useful facility of all," Celeste excitedly said, her voice rising with enthusiasm, "You have to pay some coins to enter, but you can then fight monsters to train, there’s even a pet section for training your companions and helping them!"
"Oh?" Leon was surprised by that detail, "I guess that’s gonna be good for Alphox."
And finally, the [Excursion], the place that neither Emilia nor Celeste had gone to during their month in the kingdom because they didn’t have the clearance.
"It’s apparently for big events, but there have been none recently, so we don’t know much about it, the guards don’t answer any questions about it either, they just ignore you."
"Hm," Leon said, filing that information away for later.
For now, the girls led Leon to the [Training Grounds], which was a massive area with tens of thousands of players coming in and out constantly, the flow of people never seeming to stop.
Leon was impressed by the scale of it. It was simply a massive terrain with many fields stretching out in every direction, where in each one a player or native was fighting a monster made out of mana exclusively for training purposes.
These monsters gave no experience points when defeated, but they were extracted from a vast database that made their behavior very accurate to real monsters, so the training was valuable.
This made it possible for players to train to fight without dying permanently, though you could still get injured and feel pain from the encounters, so it wasn’t completely risk-free.
There was a small stand in front of every field where a native worker could help out, and the trio simply headed toward one that seemed free and unoccupied.
