Chapter 305: Reaching The Awakener Tower

Fwoosh!

Without even waiting for their response, Leon lifted his staff once more and summoned four additional skeletons around him.

The newly summoned undead warriors emerged one after another, each of them radiating the exact same overwhelming pressure as the first.

The expressions of the remaining players changed immediately.

If one skeleton was enough to massacre their level 82 leader instantly, then fighting five of them together was pure suicide.

“I-I’m leaving.”

“H-Holy shit…”

“That thing killed him in one hit…”

“What kind of monster is this human?”

Panic spread through the group rapidly. Their greed vanished almost instantly as survival instincts took over instead.

One after another, they began backing away nervously before eventually turning around entirely and fleeing from the area as fast as possible.

Leon watched them disappear into the distance before finally exhaling quietly.

Beside him, Emilia looked down at Celeste’s phoenix flame resting carefully inside her hands and sighed.

“That was genuinely the most unnecessary interruption ever,” she muttered. “Why can’t people just leave us alone for once?”

“The phoenix flame is far too valuable,” Leon replied calmly while glancing at the small golden-red fire. “Once people realize what it is, greed takes over immediately.”

Even now, he could still feel several distant gazes lingering on them from nearby buildings and streets.

Some players clearly understood what they had just witnessed. Others probably only sensed the abnormal aura coming from Leon’s skeletons.

Regardless, nobody approached anymore. Still, Leon wasn’t stupid enough to relax completely.

“I’ll keep the skeletons summoned this time,” he continued while looking around cautiously. “If another idiot tries something, I’d rather end it quickly.”

Of course, because he had permanently killed someone, the system notification appeared almost immediately afterward.

Ding!

[You have permanently killed “SuperWarrior62.”]

[Your “Slaughter Meter” has increased by 1.]

A second later, more notifications followed.

Ding!

[Due to the effects of “Slayer III,” additional rewards have been granted.]

[You have taken three items from “SuperWarriorW” as well as 5% of his Eternal Coins.]

Leon opened the panel casually and checked the rewards. The Eternal Coin amount immediately caught his attention.

“189,150 Eternal Coins,” he muttered with slight surprise. “Not bad but not good.”

As for the items… a [Healing Potion], [Gnome Hat (Rare)] and [Small Fairy Wings (Uncommon Material)]

Leon stared at the items for a second before shaking his head, “They’re mediocre besides the healing potion.”

Most likely, the dead player had spent most of his time farming realms from the [Newbie District], which explained the strange loot.

Still, Leon didn’t particularly care. His attention moved toward another panel instead.

[Slaughter Meter: 799/1000 (Tier-3)]

“Oh well,” he shrugged. “Closer to the next tier.”

He honestly wasn’t even trying to increase the slaughter meter anymore at this point. People simply kept attacking him over and over.

Once everything settled down again, Leon motioned for Emilia to follow him before continuing toward the giant [Awakener Tower] standing in the distance.

This time, Emilia closed her hand completely around Celeste’s phoenix flame to hide it from view.

Even so, Leon still noticed many players staring at them as they walked through the streets.

Though strangely enough, most of the gazes weren’t directed toward the hidden flame anymore. They were directed toward him.

“I think people can really sense how strong you are now,” Emilia said while glancing around curiously.

“The stronger your combat power becomes, the harder it is to suppress your aura naturally,” Leon explained calmly. “Even when I’m not trying to release pressure, some of it leaks out.”

“Then why did that group attack us earlier if your aura is obvious?”

“Their greed was stronger than their instincts.”

Emilia nodded slowly, “That makes sense.”

The closer they got to the border of the district, the more crowded the area became.

Eventually, the massive [Awakener Tower] finally stood completely before them.

The structure was enormous. It stretched far into the sky, so high that the upper sections disappeared beyond the clouds entirely, while a gigantic veil of light surrounded the entrance between the [Advanced District] and the [Awakener District].

Surprisingly, Leon noticed players occasionally walking out from the veil itself.

“I guess players from the [Awakener District] can return whenever they want,” Leon muttered thoughtfully while observing them carefully. “Interesting.”

Most of the players leaving the district radiated terrifying pressure. Some of them were clearly level 100 or close to it.

Leon’s eyes narrowed slightly. If someone like that recognized Celeste’s phoenix flame for what it truly was, things could become extremely dangerous very quickly.

Seeing all of this only made Leon understand Celeste’s fears more deeply, more precisely why she never let anyone get close to her. A phoenix without caution truly couldn’t survive.

The entrance to the [Awakener Tower] itself also possessed another transparent veil of light, though unlike the district barrier, Leon could see through this one clearly.

Several players entered the tower one after another. What caught his attention, however, was the fact nobody ever came back out.

“The moment you enter, you stay until the test ends…” Leon muttered.

The recommended level for the special assessment was level 90. And yet here he was at level 75.

Still, there was no point hesitating anymore. Leon and Emilia stepped forward together before passing through the veil.

Fwoosh! Ding!

[You have entered the “Awakener Tower.”]

[Please await your turn to receive your special advancement task.]

The inside of the tower was far larger than expected.

A massive circular chamber stretched endlessly around them, filled with dozens upon dozens of players from different races.

Some sat quietly against walls. Others looked nervous. A few groups whispered among themselves anxiously while staring upward.

Every once in a while, one of the waiting players suddenly transformed into particles of light before ascending rapidly toward the upper levels of the tower.

“That’s probably when it becomes their turn,” Emilia whispered.

Leon nodded silently. Almost immediately after entering, a strange sense of pressure settled over him.

It felt wrong. Heavy. As though something dangerous was constantly watching every single movement he made.

Beside him, Emilia suddenly clutched her head painfully.

“Argh…”

Leon immediately looked toward her, “Danger again?”

“Yes…” Emilia muttered weakly while sitting against the wall. “It’s even worse than before…”

Without hesitation, she handed Celeste’s phoenix flame back to Leon.

He carefully took the small fire into his hands again, making sure to shield it from everyone around them.

One by one, more players vanished upward as their turns arrived. Minutes passed slowly.

Then eventually—

Fwoosh!

Leon suddenly saw Emilia’s body beginning to dissolve into particles.

“I guess it’s your turn,” he said calmly.

Emilia nodded nervously before disappearing upward into the tower like the others, “See you.”

Leon remained alone afterward. The chamber felt strangely quiet now despite the number of people still present.

Three minutes later, Leon suddenly felt a powerful pulling force surround his own body.

“It’s finally my turn.”

Fwoosh!

In an instant, Leon’s body transformed into particles as well before rapidly ascending upward through the inside of the tower.

The speed was overwhelming. Everything blurred around him.

Then suddenly—

Thud!

Leon reappeared inside another room entirely. The first thing he did immediately was look down at his hand.

Seeing Celeste’s phoenix flame still resting safely there made him release a quiet sigh of relief.

But the moment he lifted his head again, his expression darkened slightly.

The room was strangely simple. A large desk sat in front of him, yet nobody occupied the chair behind it.

Instead, a floating panel hovered above the desk, displaying the silhouette of an individual whose entire body remained hidden in darkness.

Then the panel suddenly lit up.

Ding!

[So you have finally arrived, Celestial.]

[Very, very good. Then I suppose we can finally begin.]
