Chapter 269: Out Of The Chamber, The Forsaken King’s Reaction
Chapter 269: Chapter 269: Out Of The Chamber, The Forsaken King’s Reaction
Without wasting any more time, Violet released her wings from behind her back, the vibrant, multicolored appendages spreading outward as her aura intensified slightly.
And before Leon could say anything else, she stepped forward and lifted him in a princess-like carry, holding him securely as she flapped her wings and rose into the air.
The ascent was smooth and surprisingly fast, and thanks to her speed, Violet quickly passed the others who were still making their way up, overtaking Godrick, Alicar, and Oasis with ease as she reached the top of the hole first, landing gracefully on the surface before gently setting Leon back down.
About a minute later, Oasis emerged next, her wings retracting as she landed, followed shortly by Alicar, who touched down lightly after using his wind-based skill, and finally Godrick, who pulled himself over the edge with a grunt before dropping onto the ground.
“H-Hah… light work,” the demon laughed, though the slight heaviness in his breathing made it clear that even he had felt the strain.
Once everyone was back on the surface, Oasis summoned her [Holographic Map] once more, projecting the layout of the city as they began making their way back toward the base.
This time, however, the journey was completely different. Not a single monster appeared.
No spiders crawled out of the shadows, no knights roamed the streets, and no threats emerged from the darkness, leaving the path eerily quiet as the group moved forward without interruption.
It was a stark contrast to everything they had experienced so far.
“Were there really no other monsters besides the legion and the spiders?” Leon asked, glancing around as he walked, clearly noticing how empty the city had become.
“There are still others,” Violet replied calmly, walking slightly ahead of the group as she kept her eyes forward, “But they’re either located at the far edges of the city or gathered near the castle itself, which is why defeating the [Forsaken Minotaur] is important, as it will give us access to a bit more opportunities to grow stronger.”
“Got it,” Leon nodded.
The current area had essentially been cleared, meaning their next step was unavoidable.
After some time, the group finally returned to the base, and as soon as they arrived, Oasis placed the [Annihilation Turret] back at the entrance, ensuring their safety before they stepped inside.
The moment they entered, the tension that had been holding them together finally loosened, and one by one, they collapsed onto the chairs in the lobby, their bodies finally catching up with the exhaustion they had been ignoring.
Interestingly, Leon and Violet seemed to be the only ones who weren’t visibly affected, both of them remaining relatively composed despite everything that had happened.
“Well…” Violet said softly, turning her gaze toward Leon as a gentle smile appeared on her face, “I guess everything worked out.”
“…For now,” Leon replied, his expression calm but slightly distant, “We don’t know what’s coming next.”
“Then let’s hope we’re strong enough when it does,” she said, nodding slightly before turning away and heading toward the hallway, making her way back to her chamber.
“God damn it… how does this human even do it,” Godrick groaned as he leaned back in his chair, staring at Leon with a mix of frustration and disbelief, “I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I actually miss my higher domain.”
“We all do,” Alicar sighed, his elf ears drooping slightly as he looked down for a moment, “But there’s nothing we can do about it right now, we just have to keep moving forward, we’re getting closer to leaving this place every day.”
“All thanks to Leon~” Oasis added cheerfully, a bright smile on her face despite her exhaustion, “Hehe~”
“Agreed,” Alicar nodded, glancing at Leon with a more serious expression, “His arrival has changed everything for us.”
“…Hm,” Godrick grunted, clearly reluctant to admit it, but after a brief pause, he sighed and looked away, “I guess… humans aren’t that bad.”
It clearly took a lot out of him to say that, and without adding anything else, he stood up and headed toward his room, not wanting to continue the conversation any further.
Alicar and Oasis followed shortly after, each of them returning to their own chambers, leaving Leon alone once again in the main lobby.
As he watched them leave, his expression darkened slightly, the faint warmth from their words fading as reality settled back in.
Their appreciation didn’t change anything.
It didn’t change where they were, or what they were facing.
To Leon, there was only one objective: survive, complete the assessment, and get out.
Because once this was over, he knew very well that what awaited him next would be far worse than anything he had encountered in the [Forsaken City].
That thought made him pause for a brief moment before he shook his head, pushing it aside as he refocused.
’I should make use of everything I got while I have the time,’ he thought, his gaze sharpening slightly.
And considering the amount of items currently sitting in his [Storage Space], he knew it would take a while.
…
Meanwhile, deep within the [Forsaken Castle], far from the now quiet streets of the city, a different scene was unfolding.
“My lord…” a creature with dark, decaying skin and sharp, jagged teeth knelt before a massive throne, its voice trembling slightly as it spoke, “I… I bring news…”
The being it addressed sat motionless upon the throne, its entire figure shrouded in darkness, only a pair of glowing white eyes visible through the thick aura surrounding it.
The [Forsaken King].
The throne itself was a grotesque structure made of countless skulls, stacked and fused together, many of which likely belonged to players who had failed their trials within this city.
“Speak,” the king said in a bored, uninterested tone, his voice echoing through the chamber, “What could possibly happen in a city that has already been emptied of life?”
“…My lord,” the ghoul stammered, lowering its head even further as fear crept into its voice, “The [Forsaken Legion] has been nearly wiped out… and the [Spider Mother] has been killed.”
For the first time, the king’s expression shifted slightly, his posture tightening ever so subtly as the information registered.
“…So the center has been cleared,” he murmured, his voice losing its boredom, replaced by something far more focused, “Leaving only the forces near the edges of the city and the castle…
His gaze slowly lifted toward the massive window behind him, staring out into the distant sky.
“The players…” he said quietly, his tone darkening, “These parasites are still alive… after all this time, I thought they had already perished.”
“And yet… they keep annoying me. Perhaps its time I finally decide to act.”
