Chapter 199: Chapter 199: The Volcano Crab King [1]
Leon, Celeste and Emilia stepped into an enormous chamber located at the very core of the volcano.
Below them, lava surged and exploded, flowing violently in every direction, while in front of them stood a massive stone platform surrounded by molten rivers.
It didn’t take long to understand what this place was.
“This feels… imposing,” Celeste said, her voice slightly quieter than usual as she looked around, “We’re really going to fight here?”
“No other choice,” Leon replied with a small shrug, his expression calm as always, “We just have to be stronger.”
They walked forward until they reached the center of the platform.
And the moment they did—
RUMBLE!
The entire chamber shook violently as the path behind them collapsed, sealing the entrance completely.
There was no turning back now. Leon didn’t react much, his gaze already shifting around the arena.
Vision Enhancement!
His eyes sharpened instantly, the world becoming clearer and more detailed as he scanned every corner, every crack, every possible movement.
But nothing happened. Seconds passed. Then a minute. Then two.
His skill faded, and still, nothing appeared.
“Are we sure the [Volcano Crab King] is here?” Celeste asked, her grip tightening slightly on her spear.
“Why would there be an arena like this, and why would our exit be sealed if not for it?” Emilia replied, her eyes moving constantly as she stayed on guard.
“Yeah… you’re right,” Celeste nodded.
All three of them remained ready.
Leon held both his sword and staff, prepared to switch between close combat and spells at any moment.
Emilia raised her scepter as well, ready to either support or attack depending on the situation.
And Celeste spun her spear lightly, flames dancing along its edge as she prepared to use her newly acquired [Hellish Swing].
Time passed slowly. The only sound was the constant movement of lava beneath them.
Then finally—
“Alright,” Celeste said, exhaling slightly as she stepped forward, “If it’s hiding… then let’s force it out.”
She spun her spear once more, gathering flames around it before driving it straight into the ground.
For a moment, nothing happened.
But then—
“ARGH…!”
Emilia suddenly clutched her head, her body trembling slightly as a sharp pain hit her.
Leon immediately rushed to her side, “Are you okay?!”
It was the first time he had seen her react like this.
For a few seconds, Emilia struggled to even speak, her breathing uneven, as if something was pressing down on her mind.
Then suddenly, she looked down.
“IT’S COMING FROM BELOW!”
The moment those words left her mouth, both Leon and Celeste snapped their attention to the ground beneath them.
And in the next instant—
BOOOOOOM!
The platform beneath their feet exploded upward.
Two massive pincers burst out from below like living weapons, tearing through the stone as if it were nothing, one of them lunging directly toward Emilia while the other targeted Leon, who had been standing right next to her only a moment ago.
They moved with terrifying speed, far faster than something of that size should have been able to, closing the distance in an instant as they snapped forward with the clear intent of cutting both of them cleanly in half.
Leon reacted almost purely on instinct.
Darkness Barrier!
A dark shield formed around his body in a split second, buying him just enough time to brace himself against what was coming, but even then, he could feel the pressure of the incoming attack before it even connected.
Snap!
The pincer slammed shut around him, crushing against the barrier with overwhelming force, and in less than a second, the shield shattered like glass under pressure.
’Holy hell…’ Leon’s eyes widened as he felt the impact travel through his body, ’That thing’s grip is way too strong.’
Even though the barrier had been destroyed instantly, it had still done its job.
That single moment of resistance gave Leon just enough time to push himself backward, forcing his body away from the pincer’s deadly range before it could close completely around him.
He slid across the ground, regaining his footing as his eyes immediately darted back toward Emilia.
And what he saw made his expression tighten. She hadn’t moved.
Emilia had been the first to sense the danger, the one who warned them, but the sudden headache that hit her had slowed her reaction just enough to make the difference.
SNAP!
The second pincer closed around her body completely, the sound echoing through the chamber as it crushed down with terrifying force, strong enough to kill almost any player instantly.
Even Leon knew that if he had been caught directly without any form of defense, he wouldn’t have survived that kind of attack.
The sheer raw power behind that strike was far beyond what most players at their level could handle.
And yet, Leon didn’t rush forward immediately. Instead, his eyes narrowed slightly.
The pincer tightened, the massive claw applying more and more pressure, clearly trying to crush Emilia completely.
But nothing happened. No sign of damage.
“I think… I’m fine,” Emilia muttered, her voice strained as she remained completely immobilized inside the claw, unable to move but clearly still alive.
Leon blinked once. Then he let out a short chuckle.
“Well damn… I guess your [Constitution] really is built different.”
Even something like that, an attack that should have killed instantly, wasn’t enough to break through her absurd durability.
Still, that didn’t mean the situation was safe.
Being trapped like that in the middle of a boss fight was the last thing they needed.
And before either Leon or Celeste could react to free her—
BOOM!
The ground shattered even further as the rest of the creature emerged from below.
The [Volcano Crab King] rose from beneath the platform, its massive body tearing through the stone as if it had never been there in the first place, its presence alone making the entire chamber feel smaller.
The creature was colossal. When fully extended, it stood at nearly four meters tall, its body covered in thick crimson armor that looked more like molten rock than actual shell, with glowing cracks of lava running across its surface like veins.
Its eyes moved slowly, scanning the area with an eerie awareness, locking onto the three players as if analyzing them one by one.
Clack! Clack!
Its massive claws opened and closed repeatedly, the one holding Emilia tightening slightly each time as if trying to crush her again, yet no matter how much force it applied, she still didn’t break.
“…?” The creature seemed confused.
For a brief moment, it simply stared at her, as if trying to understand why something so small wasn’t being crushed like everything else it had ever grabbed.
Normally, it would have already killed one or two intruders the moment it appeared.
But this time… nothing. Emilia was still there. Still alive. That alone seemed to irritate it.
