Chapter 161: The Divine Academy’s Examination Event [2]

Chapter 161: Chapter 161: The Divine Academy’s Examination Event [2]

Around an hour had passed since Leon and Celeste entered the [Divine Jungle], and during that time they had eliminated hundreds of players by themselves.

Most of the people they encountered tried to attack from hiding instead of fighting head-on.

Unfortunately for them, none of it worked. Every single ambush ended the same way.

Before their attack could even land, they were already dead.

Slash! Boom! Crack!

Spells and blades cut them down instantly.

“It’s the low-level players that try things like that,” Leon explained while stepping over the body of a defeated player. “Someone at level 70 or 75 wouldn’t bother hiding like this. They would just fight directly.”

Celeste nodded while twirling her spear once before resting it on her shoulder.

Still, Leon knew that wouldn’t last forever.

Eventually they would meet the stronger ones.

But for now, the jungle continued to swallow up weaker players who believed they had found the perfect ambush spot.

None of them ever expected the two people they attacked to be far stronger than they looked.

Eventually, after moving through the jungle for a long time, the thick forest slowly began to thin out.

The trees became less dense, the vines disappeared, and the path ahead opened up.

Leon slowed down slightly before stepping past the final line of trees.

Then he looked ahead.

And…

Ding!

[You have entered the final zone: “Citadel of Dusk”]

Before them stood an enormous citadel surrounded by a heavy curtain of darkness.

The massive fortress rose high into the sky, its black walls looking ancient and worn.

Even the air around it felt darker.

“Damn,” Leon mumbled quietly while staring at the fortress. “I take back what I said about the [Canyon of Death]. THIS is definitely the best place to hide.”

Any player who wanted to reach this place would have to go through the ambushes of the [Divine Jungle].

But once they arrived here… The darkness around the citadel made it extremely easy to hide.

“I don’t think many people have discovered this place yet though,” Leon continued while turning away from the fortress. “So let’s head back.”

There was no reason to stay here now that they saw all the zones.

Now that they understood the domain completely, there was only one thing left to do: hunt.

“Here we go,” Leon muttered as his eyes flared slightly.

The next few hours passed without anything particularly special happening.

Leon and Celeste simply moved from zone to zone, killing anyone they encountered along the way.

They traveled through each area repeatedly, searching for players and eliminating them without hesitation.

None of the people they encountered could even come close to threatening them.

Even players at level 70 barely lasted more than a few seconds.

Their attacks were too fast, their stats too high, and Leon’s spells were simply overwhelming.

Still, there was one thing Leon noticed: they had not yet encountered anyone from the top rankings.

That meant the strongest players were probably doing the same thing somewhere else in the domain.

Which meant they would eventually meet.

Leon kept his eyes on the participant counter as time passed.

Ding!

[Players Left: 40,000]

The number had dropped dramatically since the beginning of the event.

Thousands of players had already been eliminated. But the counter didn’t stop there.

An hour later…

Ding!

[Players Left: 27,000]

Another massive drop.

And then, after more time passed…

Ding!

[Only 10,000 Players remain.]

Leon let out a quiet laugh.

“Heh.”

He quickly opened the ranking window to check his score.

Ding!

[You are currently in first place with 1,238 Points.]

His smile widened slightly.

Do note that these eliminations did not add to his [Slaughter Meter].

That was because the event didn’t actually kill players permanently.

Still, that didn’t change the fact that only some of the strongest players remained now.

Ten thousand people. Out of nearly sixty thousand.

That meant every remaining participant was at least somewhat capable.

Celeste walked beside him while glancing at the ranking window.

“Do we change our strategy now?” she asked.

Leon thought for a moment before shaking his head.

“Nah,” he replied casually. “Let’s head back to the [Lightwood Plains]. I’m pretty sure a lot of people are gathering there.”

Celeste nodded.

That made sense. The plains were the most open area in the domain.

Once the number of players became smaller, it was only natural that many of them would move there to fight.

Leon also had another thought.

If he had to guess, the event would probably last around a full day.

Finding the last few remaining players would become extremely difficult once the number dropped low enough.

But Leon wasn’t worried about that. He was already in first place.

As long as he kept his lead… Victory would eventually belong to him.

As for Celeste… she was currently in fourth place.

Leon glanced at the ranking again while walking.

“That [DemonBeast] guy and Azaroth might be a bit problematic,” he said thoughtfully. “But I still think we can win.”

Celeste tilted her head while scrolling through the ranking list.

“Azaroth?” she asked. “I don’t see that ID anywhere.”

“Oh,” Leon realized, “Azaroth is [MightyElf]. I met him before in the [Poison Forest] of the [Lower Domain].”

“Ah, okay,” she said. “So… is he an enemy?”

Leon shrugged slightly.

“Not sure,” he replied honestly. “We didn’t attack each other when we met, but there was definitely some hostility.”

With that said, the two of them increased their speed.

They rushed across the terrain, heading directly toward the [Lightwood Plains].

As expected, when they finally arrived… The scene in front of them was absolute chaos.

Hundreds of players were fighting across the open field..

It was a massive battlefield where everyone fought each other, either alone or in teams.

“Damn…” Leon said with a grin while observing the scene. “I guess I can intervene, heh?”

Celeste tightened her grip on her spear, “We should join.”

Only the player who dealt the final blow received the point for an elimination.

Which meant jumping into the middle of the fight could be extremely profitable.

Leon briefly considered another idea.

’Actually… I could probably use [Oblivion Meteor] right now and wipe out almost everyone here.’

The thought lasted for only a second. Then he shook his head.

’That would be incredibly stupid.’

Instead, Leon simply raised his sword in one hand while gripping his staff with the other.

He slowly scanned the battlefield, looking for his next target.

Beside him, Celeste spun her spear once before lowering her stance slightly.

She looked excited.

The weaker players they had fought earlier hadn’t really pushed her at all.

But now… Things might finally get interesting.

Fwoosh!

Without another word, the two of them rushed straight into the battlefield.

Meanwhile… in [Divine Academy].

“Seems like only 10,000 of them are left.”

The chairman of [Divine Academy], Dominik, leaned back in his large chair while observing the massive screens surrounding him.

He was a tall man, standing nearly two meters in height.

White hair covered his head, and a short beard rested along his jaw as he slowly scratched his chin.

His eyes carefully studied the battles taking place across the domain.

He wasn’t watching for entertainment. He was evaluating.

The five teachers of the academy stood behind him in silence.

Their expressions remained calm as they observed the same screens.

Dominik suddenly spoke again.

“Do you not find it strange that one of the players is using the ID [Celestial]?”

The teachers exchanged brief glances.

“It is unusual,” Alikar replied calmly, he was the same teacher Leon had bumped into earlier. “But it may simply be a coincidence.”

“I believe THEY are not allowed to use that ID,” Monika, another teacher, said. “So it is likely just a coincidence.”

Dominik rubbed his beard again while thinking, “Hm.”

He stared at Leon’s image on the screen.

“Well… I suppose it doesn’t really matter as long as he helps them.”

Another teacher spoke nervously.

“I-I am sure the [God of War] and [God of Magic] w-will be very pleased.”

Dominik nodded slowly, “Indeed.”

Their devotion to the two gods ran extremely deep.

They worshipped the [God of War] and the [God of Magic] with absolute loyalty.

Their ultimate goal was simple: one day, they hoped to become servants of those gods.

To receive their full blessing. To gain unimaginable power.

They had already received a small amount before.

Just enough to strengthen their faith even further.

And because of that… Every single one of them was currently watching Leon very carefully.

They needed to determine something important: whether he could be useful.

Dominik slowly folded his hands together while staring at the screen.

’For the glory of the gods,’ he thought silently, ’And… the celestials.’
