Chapter 146: The Tower of Souls Fragment, The Other Souls are Here
Chapter 146: Chapter 146: The Tower of Souls Fragment, The Other Souls are Here
Leon stood still for a moment after Ming Yolen’s body dissolved into blue particles and rushed into the [Altar of Life].
His eyes remained fixed on the altar.
The glow it emitted was no longer the same as before. It pulsed with deeper intensity, the cracks along its surface shining brighter, as if the soul it had absorbed was feeding it. The light no longer felt dormant. It felt active.
“Interesting,” Leon muttered under his breath.
If one soul was enough to strengthen it this much, then what would happen after all ten entered it?
Would it open something? Or would it transform into something entirely different?
Leon did not know. The system had not explained that part. But one thing was clear: the [Altar of Life] was not just a decorative object. It was central to this trial.
Regardless of what it would eventually do, Leon shifted his focus when a familiar notification appeared.
Ding!
[100% Drop Rate has triggered…]
Leon blinked.
“Oh?”
He had not expected that.
Drops from souls were already unusual. And yet, the system had clearly activated his passive.
Without hesitation, Leon opened his [Storage Space] to inspect what he had obtained.
A single fragment floated inside.
[Tower of Souls Fragment (Mythical): One of the ten fragments that form the token of the “Tower of Souls,” a place forbidden to mortals.]
Leon stared at the description.
“The Tower of Souls…” he repeated quietly.
He had never heard of such a place.
It did not exist in any public information about [Eternal Ascension].
Even the rumors about secret realms had never mentioned something with that name.
Perhaps it was located in the [Higher Domain]. Or perhaps it was something even more secret than that.
A forbidden place for mortals. The wording alone made it sound dangerous.
And then another thought surfaced.
What if the Tower of Souls was connected to the entity that killed all these warriors?
What if it was related to the [Lord of Souls]?
Leon could not confirm anything yet, but instinct told him that these fragments were important. If he collected all ten, he might uncover the truth.
For now, he closed his storage and exhaled slowly.
During his battle with Ming, he had received several notifications about his summoned skeletons.
All of them were gone. Every single one had been destroyed somewhere in the labyrinth.
Leon frowned slightly.
He could only summon one skeleton every three minutes after their death. That cooldown prevented him from flooding the maze again.
Still, he raised his staff and summoned one.
A single skeleton clawed its way out of the stone floor and stood before him.
“Go,” Leon instructed calmly. “Scout ahead.”
The undead turned and rushed down one of the stone corridors.
Leon watched through [Vision Enhancement] as it ran deeper into the labyrinth. The glowing cracks along the walls illuminated its bony frame.
Just as the skeleton approached a corner and prepared to turn—
SLASH!
A spear shot out from the left side of the hallway.
It pierced directly through the skeleton’s skull, crushing it against the wall. The impact shattered bone instantly. The undead collapsed into fragments and crumbled to the ground.
Leon’s expression darkened.
“…Damn.”
A figure stepped into view from the shadows of the corridor.
She was around 1.7 meters tall, with long flowing hair and enormous wings spreading from her back. A soft but powerful glow surrounded her body, and her eyes shone with cold determination.
She pulled her spear free from the remains of the skeleton and looked directly at Leon.
“…So it’s you.”
That was all she said before launching forward.
Fwoosh!
Leon instantly raised his sword and opened her status window.
Appraisal!
—
[Dead Soul, Virelle]
[Level: ???]
[Exclusive Talent: Wandering Soul (S-Level)]
[Combat Power: 580,000]
[Details: The soul of a powerful warrior killed by “???”]

“Once again,” Leon thought as he stepped aside to dodge her spear thrust.
Her movements were fast and precise. The spear aimed for his heart, but he deflected it with the flat of his blade before twisting to avoid a sharp kick aimed at his ribs.
The force behind her attacks was impressive, though slightly lower than Ming’s.
“I’m surprised you managed to defeat Ming,” Virelle said while circling him. “But no wonder the [Heavenly One] allowed you to take this trial.”
She spun her spear once, wings flexing slightly behind her.
“But it doesn’t matter,” she continued coldly. “I have to get revenge on the [Lord of Souls]. You’re just a stepping stone.”
Leon narrowed his eyes.
“The [Lord of Souls]?” he asked.
That had to be the one who killed them. No other explanation made sense.
FWOOSH!
Virelle did not give him time to think further. She dashed forward again, spear sweeping horizontally toward his neck.
Leon met her attack head-on.
Clang!
Steel and spiritual energy collided repeatedly as sword and spear clashed in rapid succession.
Slash! Parry! Thrust! Block!
Within a short time, it became clear that Leon was physically stronger. His [Power Sword] gave him the edge in direct exchanges.
“You have lower [Combat Power] than us,” Virelle muttered in disbelief while blocking another strike. “And yet…”
She never finished her sentence.
CRUNCH!
The ground beneath Leon suddenly exploded upward.
A massive monstrous jaw burst from the stone floor, attempting to swallow him whole.
Leon reacted instantly, jumping backward just as the enormous creature snapped its mouth shut where he had been standing.
Virelle froze in shock.
“HEY! He’s mine!” she shouted angrily.
“You were too slow,” another voice replied calmly. “I’ll finish this.”
“Only one of us can challenge the [Lord of Souls],” a third voice added from a nearby corridor. “We need to think carefully.”
Leon’s eyes flicked around.
Figures began emerging from the different paths of the labyrinth one after another.
One floated slightly above the ground, holding an ancient book in his hand.
Another had vines wrapped tightly around her arms and shoulders.
A tall man wielded twin blades. A dark-skinned warrior radiated demonic energy.
One by one, they appeared until nine figures surrounded the clearing. Leon quickly checked their names as their panels flashed into view.
[Dead Soul, Lucas]
[Dead Soul, Belial]
[Dead Soul, Marcus]
[Dead Soul, Elliot]
And the rest. Every single one of the remaining souls now stood before him.
They all looked different, each radiating their own unique aura and fighting style. But their expressions shared one common trait.
They all wanted him dead. Virelle lowered her spear slightly.
“Ming is gone,” she said. “No point wasting time. We attack. Whoever gets the final blow wins.”
“Wait,” Marcus, the one holding the book, interrupted. “The [Lord of Souls] is far stronger than any of us individually. We should choose the one with the highest chance.”
Belial snorted. “You expect us to choose you?”
Lucas folded his arms. “Until the [Lord of Souls] dies, we remain trapped here. This is our only chance.”
“The human has around 400,000 Combat Power,” Elliot observed calmly. “I don’t know how he beat Ming, but if we work together, he won’t stand a chance. Let’s decide.”
Leon remained silent. If he attacked now, all nine would retaliate simultaneously.
That would be instant death. Instead, he listened. Their conversation revealed valuable information.
The [Lord of Souls] had imprisoned them here. They believed killing him would free them.
And apparently, the soul who killed Leon would gain enough power to challenge that entity.
Leon had originally expected them to fight each other over the final blow.
Instead, they were cooperating. That was far worse.
Fighting nine enemies who coordinated their actions was infinitely more dangerous than fighting them one by one.
“First, we restrict his movement,” Virelle said firmly while spinning her spear. “Then we choose.”
“Fine,” Elliot sighed.
One by one, they raised their weapons.
The air around Leon grew heavy with killing intent. He quickly assessed the situation.
Each of them had around 550,000 to 620,000 Combat Power.
Individually, he could manage. Together? It was almost impossible.
“Damn…” Leon thought calmly, even as sweat formed lightly on his forehead. “This is bad.”
Still, he did not show fear.
This was a God-Rank assessment. If it were easy, it would not deserve that title.
Leon tightened his grip on his sword and lifted his staff slightly with his other hand.
Nine powerful souls surrounded him. There was no escape. But he had no intention of giving up.
