Chapter 528: The Great Turmoil!
[Everyone knows that only the Human Race can give birth to a Celestial Emperor.]
[No matter how desperately the Alien Races cultivate, no matter how crooked a path they walk, they can never produce a Celestial Emperor.]
[This much has already been proven: during the Celestial Emperor era, there was not a single alien Celestial Emperor, and from the end of that era to the present day, no alien Celestial Emperor has ever been born.]
[As for why?]
[The Alien Races don't know.]
[The Human Race doesn't know either.]
[But during the Celestial Emperor era, the Alien Races unanimously believed that the reason they could not produce a Celestial Emperor was because the Human Race's Celestial Emperor had suppressed their luck, and that they would only have a chance if they overthrew the human Celestial Emperor.]
[Thus, a conspiracy quietly spread through the universe, infecting all Alien Races like a virus.]
[Since ancient times, whenever a Celestial Emperor reigned over the cosmos, the Human Race always held the highest position and governed the myriad races, while the myriad races held lowly stations and served the Human Race. Never has it been heard that an Alien Race held the highest position and governed the Human Race.]
[This was the universal order of the Celestial Emperor era.][At that time, although the Human Race was the most exalted race, they did not treat the Alien Races as slaves, nor did they forbid the Alien Races from learning this or that.]
[Human Race factions held two attitudes toward alien factions.]
[The first: You submit to me, and I can spare some effort to manage you and teach you a few advanced things. Of course, this isn't free. You have to fight my wars, provide me with resources, and so on.]
[The second: Do whatever you want. As long as you don't come bother me, who cares what your situation is? We can barely compete with our own people as it is.]
[Back then, the Human Race wasn't a monolithic block either. Internal competition was, of course, fierce. After all, the universe was so vast, with so many star systems. It was impossible for everyone to be one big happy family.]
[Unfortunately, the Alien Races themselves failed to live up to expectations.]
[Whether it was those who submitted or those left to their own devices, their overall combat power could never catch up to the Human Race.]
[Not to mention cultural soft power. In the eyes of the Human Race, the Alien Races of that time were not much different from savages.]
[As for producing a Celestial Emperor, that was even more of a pipe dream.]
[Later, some alien who thought himself terribly clever suggested that the reason the Alien Races were not as strong as the Human Race was because the Human Race's Celestial Emperor was siphoning away their luck.]
[This viewpoint won the agreement and support of more and more Alien Races.]
[If you don't want to look for problems in yourself, then you can only look for problems in others.]
[But to overthrow a Celestial Emperor?]
[Never mind the periods when a Celestial Emperor reigned supreme over the world, even during the gap between two generations of Celestial Emperors, that bunch of half-step Celestial Emperor big shots could still spin the myriad races like tops.]
[Even during times when the Human Race was severely divided by internal strife, when every star system was fighting each other into a chaotic mess, a tiny local splinter faction could make the surrounding alien factions kneel down and sing of conquest.]
[During those times, the Alien Races feared the Human Race's internal conflicts more than the Human Race did.]
[When the Human Race was at peace, the Alien Races could still live their lives in relative peace, at most having their profits drained dry by the Human Race in trade.]
[But once the Human Race started fighting, nobody cared about humanitarianism anymore. Trade? Trade your grandmother's leg! Everybody get chained to the war chariots!]
[Ironically, the eras when the Human Race had no major upheaval were all eras of Celestial Emperor repression.]
[And yet the Alien Races blamed the Celestial Emperor for their own inadequacy.]
["With such a massive power gap, how did the Alien Races seize their current status?"]
["Pollution."]
["Pollution!"]
["You know about Pollution, right?"]
["A little. The stuff makes mortals lose their reason, causes cultivators to regress and prevents them from cultivating normally."]
["Pollution is a problem that every Celestial Emperor has had a headache over. No one knows where they come from. Every time they appear, it's a universe-level catastrophe.
Pollution is the number one enemy of all Celestial Emperors.
And only a Celestial Emperor can truly suppress Pollution.
When there is no Celestial Emperor, the Human Race can only find ways to seal Pollution away and wait for a Celestial Emperor to descend into the world, then hand it over to the Celestial Emperor to be completely resolved.
Half of the history of the Human Race is the history of Celestial Emperors suppressing Pollution..."]
[Every time Pollution descended into the world, the ones standing at the very front were always the Celestial Emperor and the Human Race. The Alien Races only knew that Pollution was terrifying, but their impression of it was not as deep as that of the Human Race's. Some Alien Races even took Pollution lightly.]
[The last Celestial Emperor of the Human Race was the Light Celestial Emperor.]
[During his reign, Pollution reached an unprecedented height. The frequency of its outbreaks and the breadth of its impact were both rare since ancient times.]
[The Light Celestial Emperor led the Immortal Court from place to place in battle, pacifying Pollution and saving the common people. One could say he toiled his entire life.]
[While the Celestial Emperor and the Immortal Court were battling Pollution, the Alien Races in the rear began to secretly conspire.]
[The universe's most powerful alien factions colluded with some core Human Race factions from within and without. Seizing the moment when the Celestial Emperor and the Immortal Court had no attention to spare, they carried out a bloody, reasonless, indiscriminate massacre of the Human Race's backbone forces.]
[Numerous Alien Races quickly joined in. Nearly every alien faction seized this opportunity and launched attacks on the Human Race factions around them.]
[This brutal war spread to every corner of the universe and every race.]
[Although the Human Race fought back desperately, their strongest members were busy fighting Pollution and blocking the greatest threat for the entire universe.]
[The outstanding were withering away. Corpses littered the wilderness. Blood stained the vast skies.]
[Spirit lands were destroyed. One great fire, one patch of scorched earth.]
[Resources were plundered. A pack of bandits, one ruinous trail of devastation.]
[It was the most inopportune timing for the Human Race.]
[Because at that time, there was not only the external threat of Pollution; the Human Race was also in a state where a new round of internal competition was about to erupt.]
[Many local-galaxy-level factions were severely at odds with each other.]
[In the early days of the Great Turmoil, the major local galaxies did not support each other. They watched from the sidelines, and even severed the Channels between each other.]
[Everyone thought this was just another uprising by the Alien Races.]
[By the time they realized the Alien Races were coming to slaughter the Human Race to extinction, it was already too late.]
[Too many people had died. Too many resources had been taken. For those who remained, resistance had become incomparably difficult.]
[On top of that, many Human Race factions directly surrendered or defected, dealing another brutal blow to the Human Race's head.]
[In the end, the Alien Races even attacked the severely polluted regions, launched a sneak attack on the Immortal Court while it was suppressing Pollution, and killed off the strongest batch of the Human Race as well.]
[As for the Light Celestial Emperor.]
[He used his own life to suppress all Pollution. Although at the very last moment of his life, he destroyed hundreds of alien Immortal Emperors, he no longer had the power to turn the situation around.]
["The Alien Races have finally achieved the conspiracy they schemed over ten thousand years. They wiped out the Immortal Court, sent off the Celestial Emperor, and seized control of the entire universe!"]
["Are these Alien Races idiots? Without a Celestial Emperor, if Pollution comes raging back again, what will they do?"]
["They think the Celestial Emperor is just a position sitting there that anyone can take, just by taking turns. If the Human Race can't produce a Celestial Emperor, it'll be their turn.
That's why after the Great Turmoil, they've been desperately suppressing the Human Race until today.
So much so that many Alien Races don't even know about the great events that were the so-called Great Turmoil, yet they still habitually suppress the Human Race.
Facts have proven that the Celestial Emperor is not a fixed seat, not something anyone can fill. Only the Human Race, the race with the highest ceiling, even has a chance at it.]
[It's just that these Alien Races encountered two lucky things.
First: The Light Celestial Emperor perished together with Pollution, allowing them to obtain the final victory in the Great Turmoil.
Second: After the Light Celestial Emperor, Pollution still appears now and then, but its scale and intensity are far from what they were during the Celestial Emperor era. The Alien Races can barely handle it on their own."]
