Chapter 62: Chapter62-Void Spear Advances to SS-Rank!

Everything in the Fire Dragons’ path was instantly reduced to ash.

Two broad trails of flame stretched several hundred meters across the battlefield.

The monsters surging in from behind had only just stepped into the fire when burn damage began triggering every half second.

[-39,744!]

[-39,744!]

[-39,744!]

Even the residual burning effect left behind by the Fire Dragons dealt more damage every half second than the maximum HP of most elite Dark Realm monsters.

Large numbers of monsters collapsed within half a second of entering the burning trails.

After the two Fire Dragons disappeared, they left behind two blazing corridors of death across the battlefield.

The city wall fell completely silent.

A moment later, deafening cheers erupted.

"Seven hundred thousand!"

"There were two of them at once!"

"The gray-robed mage!"

"Burn them all!"

"Defensive Sector Seven is saved!"

"We don’t even need to do anything this wave!"

The cheers grew louder with every passing second.

John’s eyes also became increasingly bright.

The monsters’ levels were too low, causing his EXP gains to be reduced.

He had originally found that somewhat disappointing.

Now, however, it seemed that EXP might not be the most valuable thing on this battlefield.

As long as a skill was used one hundred times, it would automatically advance.

Fire Dragon.

Binding Chains.

Void Shift.

And the bow skills he had only recently learned.

This battlefield possessed an endless supply of enemies.

It was the perfect place to farm skill usage counts.

"Then I’ll level them all."

John raised his staff again.

His fighting spirit burned even more fiercely than before.

...

A vast empty area was quickly carved out in front of Defensive Sector Seven.

The region that had once been packed with monsters now contained only charred corpses and continuously burning flames.

The kill notifications beside John’s ears never stopped.

[You have killed Shadowblight Beast Hunter...]

[You have killed Siegeburrow Worm...]

[Military Merit +...]

The notifications were far too dense.

John’s head began to ache from the noise.

"Mute kill notification sounds."

[Kill notification sounds have been muted!]

The world became peaceful once again.

Several minutes later—

The nonhuman monsters attacking Defensive Sector Seven were completely wiped out.

Only then did the army behind them reveal its true form.

It was an allied force of intelligent races, equipped with complete formations and proper weapons.

At the front stood the black-armored [Duskborn].

Their appearances were similar to humans, though their skin was cold gray and their pupils were completely black.

They were tall, disciplined, and orderly.

Behind them stood ranks of [Grayscale], wielding curved blades and round shields.

These humanoids were covered in fine scales, with gill-like slits along the sides of their necks.

Farther back were large numbers of short, stocky [Umberkin].

Their skin resembled black stone, and they specialized in controlling dark crystals and operating war machines.

Small numbers of silver-haired, red-eyed Dark Elves were positioned along both sides of the formation.

Unlike the mindless Hunters, worms, and beetles, these Dark Realm soldiers clearly possessed complete intelligence.

They did not immediately charge.

Instead, they stared fixedly at the gray-robed elder emerging from the mountain of monster corpses.

John finally understood.

The nonhuman monsters were nothing more than expendable resources.

The Dark Realm first used these rapidly breeding creatures to attack barriers and drain arrows and mana.

Only after the human defenses were exhausted would the true Dark Realm soldiers advance to finish the job.

No wonder the earlier monsters had shown no fear of death.

Based on John’s understanding of Irene and the abilities of other witches, cultivating such low-ranking creatures probably posed little difficulty for the Dark Realm.

It was no different from endlessly producing units in a real-time strategy game.

The intelligent soldiers made far more rational decisions.

After seeing a gray-robed old man single-handedly slaughter his way through the entire monster tide, the Duskborn officer at the front immediately raised a hand.

"Withdraw from Defensive Sector Seven!"

"Redirect the assault toward Sector Six!"

The Dark Realm formation rapidly changed direction.

There was no hesitation and no attempt to continue fighting.

Naturally, John had no intention of simply watching them leave.

Two Void Spears condensed simultaneously.

[Projectile Split triggered!]

Buzz!

The black-and-gold spears tore through the military formation.

The first Void Spear struck the Duskborn officer.

[-2,649,600!]

(883,200 ×3)

The second Void Spear pierced through the Grayscale ranks behind him.

[-2,649,600!]

Two damage numbers exceeding two million rose high into the air.

The Duskborn officer and more than a dozen soldiers around him exploded instantly.

The power of Cleave continued spreading outward, tearing two massive holes dozens of meters wide through the formation.

Three seconds later, two Fire Dragons charged into the retreating troops.

[-769,680!]

[-769,680!]

The Dark Realm soldiers’ formation completely collapsed.

The surviving troops did not dare look back.

They all surged toward the neighboring Defensive Sector Six.

The pressure on Defensive Sector Seven rapidly disappeared.

John glanced toward the defenders atop the wall.

Then he activated the Faceless Shadow Mask.

Every layer of disguise rapidly faded.

He returned to his youthful appearance.

Nero stood on the wall and rubbed his eyes forcefully.

"Endbringer?"

"That old man just now was you?"

John did not answer.

A silver-gray rift had already opened beneath his feet.

[Void Shift!]

He flickered repeatedly through space, chasing after the enemy force toward Defensive Sector Six.

...

Defensive Sector Six had already descended into a full frontal melee.

Large numbers of Dark Realm soldiers surged in from one side of the battlefield.

Human melee units had been forced to leave the walls and form a defensive line below.

Knights and shield soldiers stood at the very front.

Spears, battle axes, and Dark Realm curved blades collided continuously.

The moment John arrived, he noticed an exceptionally conspicuous figure among the Dark Realm forces.

It was a troll more than eight meters tall.

Its gray-black skin resembled rough stone.

Thick metal plates had been nailed into its shoulders and chest.

It dragged an enormous club carved from an entire dead tree.

[Gloomstone Troll · Gronn]

[Skills: War Stomp, Greatwood Sweep, Darkblood Frenzy.]

A Thousand-Player-Tier Boss!

John’s eyes instantly lit up.

The troll swung its enormous club across the battlefield.

Whoosh—!

Human soldiers and Dark Realm soldiers alike were indiscriminately sent flying.

Suddenly, a slender figure appeared in the open space before it.

The Gloomstone Troll looked down at the person standing in front of it, who was not even as tall as its knee.

It felt deeply insulted.

"ROAR—!"

The enormous wooden club rose high into the air.

John merely raised his right hand calmly.

The first Void Spear pierced upward through the troll’s jaw and directly penetrated its skull.

[-885,600!]

The troll’s roar came to an abrupt stop.

Its enormous body froze in place.

The club slipped powerlessly from its hand.

Boom!

The eight-meter-tall corpse crashed heavily into the battlefield.

Every nearby player and NPC fell silent simultaneously.

John had only just prepared to collect the loot when a new notification appeared.
