Chapter 249: Iceburg Shocked, Is This the Adam Treasure Tree?
Chapter 249: Chapter 249: Iceburg Shocked, Is This the Adam Treasure Tree?
Hearing that, Iceburg just stuck his pinky in his nostril and picked his nose.
He looked thoroughly reluctant, but when he glanced through the gap and saw the sea motorcycle behind Raynor and Nami, his eyes suddenly lit up.
He hopped over to the edge of the ship and ran his hand over the sea motorcycle’s surface.
"Not bad. So it’s a mix of a motorcycle and a ship? If you wanted to sell this to us, we couldn’t afford it."
Raynor frowned slightly at that. As expected of a top-notch shipwright, his eye was sharp. He could tell at a glance that it was really a motorcycle.
So it seemed having Iceburg build this ship was the right call.
With that in mind, Raynor pushed down the brim of his cap and said,
"I’m not here to sell anything this time. I’ve come to talk about a partnership. Can we go inside to talk?"
With that, he handed Iceburg a letter of introduction from Grandma Kokoro.
Iceburg opened the letter, saw a bold red lipstick mark, and tore it to shreds.
Nami couldn’t help making a face at that.
"What a weird guy."
Hearing her say that, Iceburg scratched his head sheepishly and quickly gestured for them to come in.
Then Nami and Raynor followed Iceburg into the shipyard.
The moment they entered the shipyard, Nami and Raynor looked around and were a little awed.
The place was buzzing with work.
High-grade wood was stacked everywhere, along with battered ships that had been brought in for repairs.
The shipwrights around them were all big and muscular, radiating raw strength.
Just then, Raynor suddenly felt a hint of danger creeping closer.
Raynor glanced over and saw Rob Lucci walking forward with a log on his shoulder.
Their eyes met, and sparks seemed to fly between them.
Lucci showed a flicker of wariness the moment he saw Raynor, and Raynor felt the same.
But they only exchanged one glance before Lucci moved on.
Then Kalifa walked over on her long, slender legs.
She was holding a cup of coffee and handed it to Iceburg.
Iceburg took it, took a sip, and said coolly,
"You said you wanted to talk about a partnership. What kind? Blueprints, or..."
Before Iceburg could finish, Raynor simply closed his eyes and silently said to himself:
"System, extract Treasure Tree Adam."
The moment those words left his mouth, a thick wooden log suddenly appeared in front of everyone.
Even lying on its side, it was taller than a person.
Kaku and Kalifa immediately went on alert.
They moved to shield Iceburg, and both wore grim expressions.
How could this guy make such a huge log appear out of thin air?
Was it some kind of Devil Fruit ability?
Just as Kaku and Kalifa were about to attack Raynor, Iceburg slapped both of them on the shoulder.
"Alright, stand down. This gentleman is here to do business. That’s no way to treat a customer."
Then Iceburg turned his gaze to the Treasure Tree Adam before him, and a look of shock crept into his eyes.
Though the tree looked perfectly ordinary,
given his many years of shipbuilding experience, that piece of wood was definitely not simple.
With that thought, Iceburg reached out and touched the growth rings of the Treasure Tree Adam.
As soon as he did, his eyes widened in alarm.
He had been building ships for over twenty years. He couldn’t always judge the quality of a piece of wood at a glance,
but if he touched it, he could be almost certain about it.
In all his years as a shipwright, he had handled the finest wood in the world.
But he had never felt material like this before.
It was indescribably silky-smooth, yet as hard as steel.
He’d never touched this kind of wood before, but legend spoke of a naturally occurring ironwood.
Only one of these grew somewhere in the world every hundred years.
As of today, the entire World Government had confirmed only seven existed.
Six of them were in the World Government’s hands.
People called it the Treasure Tree Adam.
Could this tree before him really be the legendary Treasure Tree Adam?
His expression turned serious, and a grim look appeared in his eyes. He looked at Raynor and said,
"I won’t ask where you got this wood."
"But if you’re willing to sell it, I’ll buy it even if it ruins me."
Raynor waved a hand, then took two black suitcases out of his four-dimensional pocket.
"Here’s two hundred million Belly. I want you to turn this log into a ship."
"If two hundred million Belly isn’t enough, I can add more."
Iceburg’s eyes showed a hint of disappointment, but he didn’t push Raynor to sell him the Treasure Tree Adam.
He simply said quietly,
"With wood this good, we’d be glad to work for you even if we got paid nothing."
"But would you mind giving us the leftover scraps from this log?"
Hearing that they’d help for free, Nami’s eyes lit up immediately, and she said,
"Of course. Take whatever you want."
Raynor glanced at Nami at that.
That woman really loved making decisions on her own.
But all he wanted was a ship made from the Treasure Tree Adam. Given Iceburg’s character, he probably wouldn’t cut corners too much.
With that in mind, Raynor pressed down the brim of his cap and said,
"We want to see the ship by tomorrow. If you can do it, I’ll agree."
Iceburg immediately took Raynor’s hand and said firmly,
"No problem. If we work at full speed, we can have it done before tomorrow night."
Hearing that, Raynor didn’t stand on ceremony. He put the two hundred million Belly he had taken out back into his four-dimensional pocket.
After seeing the Treasure Tree Adam appear out of nowhere, the strange things Raynor did no longer surprised them.
Iceburg had wanted to discuss the ship’s design with Raynor, but Raynor refused on the spot.
"Forget it. I trust you to keep your word, Uncle Iceburg. I’ll come pick up the ship tomorrow night."
Then Raynor and Nami turned and headed back.
But as soon as they left the shipyard gate, Raynor frowned.
There were the Franky Family, those weirdos, sitting on the sea motorcycle and pressing random buttons.
When they saw Raynor and the others come out, the Franky Family freaks wore mocking sneers.
"What a bunch of idiots—leaving something this good parked here. Since we didn’t get the gold, we’ll take this ship!"
The moment those words left his mouth, one of the underlings accidentally hit the throttle.
The sea motorcycle shot forward, and a few of the Franky Family freaks were thrown right off it.
