One Piece: I Upgraded the Strongest Man in the World

Chapter 91: Enel Left Dumbfounded — He Died Just Like That?

He knew that no matter how hard he tried to persuade him, he would never change Whitebeard’s decision.

If Whitebeard chose not to accept the challenge, it would completely go against his character and the way he had always lived.

In the original story, the Summit War of Marineford was a major turning point.

Before the war broke out, one of the Four Emperors, Red-Haired Shanks, had personally tried to dissuade Whitebeard from taking action.

He clearly explained the risks and consequences, yet Whitebeard ultimately refused to back down.

Despite the immense danger, Whitebeard remained firm in his decision and eventually gave his life in that war, marking the end of an era.

Now, although this wasn’t a situation where Portgas D. Ace had been captured,

Kaido had publicly announced to the entire world that he intended to challenge Whitebeard. He had even put up 30 billion Berries of his own money as a wager, all for the chance to be defeated.

It was an unmistakable provocation toward Whitebeard and a perfect display of Kaido’s shamelessness. He was afraid Whitebeard might refuse to come, so he deliberately forced his hand.

It was a classic open scheme.

If Whitebeard went, he would be walking straight into Kaido’s trap.

If he didn’t, it would be equivalent to announcing to the entire world that he feared confronting Kaido head-on—something Whitebeard would never accept.

Even if someone held a blade to Whitebeard’s throat and told him that accepting the challenge meant certain death, he would still choose to fight without hesitation.

For a man like Whitebeard, reputation and pride were more important than life itself.

That was exactly why Ron had such a headache over the matter. No matter how he looked at it, this was almost impossible to avoid.

Whitebeard’s personality guaranteed that he would never retreat, and that was precisely the outcome Kaido wanted.

Noticing Ron’s tightly furrowed brows, Whitebeard burst into laughter.

"Gurarararara! No need to worry, Ron. Your old Pops has the speed of lightning now. If I want to leave, forget one Kaido—even ten Kaidos couldn’t stop me!"

Hearing that, Ron felt somewhat reassured.

He knew Whitebeard’s strength was extraordinary, but against an opponent like Kaido, even the slightest mistake could prove fatal.

Turning toward Whitebeard, Ron said firmly,

"We can accept the challenge, but not yet."

Whitebeard nodded in understanding.

He knew Ron’s plan made sense. They still needed more preparation and insurance before making a move.

Ron continued,

"Kaido’s Perfect Replica Devil Fruit experiment should succeed in a few more days. Once we have a few more dragons on our side, our operation will be much safer."

Whitebeard pondered for a moment before nodding.

"Mm, I can’t argue with that. Ron, you handle everything else. Pops only needs to do the fighting!"

Ron smiled and nodded.

Whitebeard’s trust and support were invaluable.

Two days later,

the Division Commanders secretly retrieved all the gold they had hidden away earlier, leaving not a single coin for Kaido.

The value of the treasure was astonishing. Combined with the gold they already possessed, its total worth reached a staggering 16 billion Berries .

At the same time, Izou and Enel returned.

They brought back a thoroughly battered Orochi.

Had Enel not confirmed his identity, Ron might not have recognized the once-arrogant shogun at all.

Orochi’s face was covered in bruises and swollen beyond recognition. Fear and unwillingness filled his eyes.

Everyone present was shocked by the sight and gained a new appreciation for Enel’s combat prowess.

This newcomer was fierce.

And he hit hard.

Scratching the back of his head, Enel gave an embarrassed grin.

"Vice Captain Ron, sorry about that. I got a little carried away and couldn’t stop myself."

To Enel, this battle had been unbelievably satisfying.

Ever since joining the crew, he had been constantly suppressed by the Division Commanders. Almost every sparring match ended with him getting beaten.

But today was different.

For the first time, he had encountered someone he could beat up freely—as long as he didn’t accidentally kill him.

For Enel, it was the perfect opportunity.

Thinking about it, a wave of joy surged through him.

All the pressure he’d accumulated seemed to have been released in a single day, leaving him feeling lighter than ever.

In fact, after this intense battle, he vaguely felt that his Armament Haki had improved slightly.

The realization filled him with anticipation for future training.

"It’s fine, it’s fine. Even if you kill him, it doesn’t matter."

Ron waved dismissively.

After all, Orochi still had seven lives left. Dying a few more times wouldn’t affect him much.

"Y-You people... I-I am the G-Great Shogun!"

Orochi tried to declare his identity through his swollen mouth, but no one seemed interested in giving him a chance to beg for mercy.

The moment they found him, they had attacked without a word.

And the leader had been none other than Izou—the very same man who had shot him dead last time, one of Kozuki Oden’s most loyal retainers.

"Damn it!!!"

Orochi was furious.

But before he could recover from his shock, Enel had already rushed forward and sent him flying with a kick.

"Insignificant insect! How dare you act so arrogantly in front of my—my great brothers? Did anyone permit you to speak?"

Enel sneered coldly.

The next moment, he raised a hand and unleashed a bolt of lightning as thick as an arm.

It shot directly toward Orochi, who was still airborne.

"AAAAAAHHHHHH! IT HURTS! IT HURTS!!!"

Orochi let out a blood-curdling scream.

The powerful current struck him head-on, causing him to lose control of his body instantly.

He rolled frantically across the ground, desperately trying to escape the agony.

Yet the lightning seemed to have a mind of its own.

No matter where he moved, it relentlessly chased after him.

Escape was impossible.

Finally, after an even more miserable scream, Orochi collapsed heavily onto the ground with a thud.

His breathing became so faint that it was nearly imperceptible.

Most notably, his right leg twitched a few times before falling completely still.

It looked like...

he might actually be dead.

Enel froze.

His eyes widened in disbelief.

"W-What? He’s dead already?!"

His voice was filled with shock.

He had assumed the giant snake would last a little longer.

Who would’ve thought he would get electrocuted to death so easily?

After checking again, Enel couldn’t help muttering,

"No way... he’s really that fragile?"
