One Piece: I Upgraded the Strongest Man in the World

Chapter 59: Ron , Do You Think I Still Have a Chance?

  • Next Chapter

A group of people were fighting with great enthusiasm, turning the area into complete chaos.

Some had lost an arm.

Some had lost their heads.

Others were running around carrying someone else’s head to prevent them from regenerating.

The entire sparring session was rapidly heading in a very strange and irreversible direction...

After realizing they couldn’t beat Pops, many simply gave up trying and started ambushing their fellow commanders instead.

What had begun as a proper training match had somehow devolved into the Whitebeard Pirates fooling around.

At some point, Whitebeard had already withdrawn from the battlefield.

He stood to the side, laughing heartily as he watched his sons make fools of themselves.

For a moment, it felt as though time itself had slowed.

Just as Ron snapped back to reality—

Jozu appeared beside him, sighing heavily.

"Ah... I never thought getting a third Devil Fruit power would be this difficult."

Jozu looked utterly dejected.

" Ron ... do you think I still have a chance?"

"Huh?"

The sudden question caught Ron off guard.

When he saw Jozu’s miserable expression, he Felt that the scene looked strangely familiar.

It was practically the same as:

"Mom, Dad... do I still have a future?"

...

Ron knew Jozu had been obsessing over enchanting himself with the Glint-Glint Fruit.

Before Ron could say anything, Jozu continued.

" Ron , is there any fast way to make money? I swear, the Glint-Glint Fruit is calling my name."

He had become completely obsessed.

Every waking moment, he imagined what he could do after obtaining the Glint-Glint Fruit’s powers.

For example:

Tremor-Tremor Fruit + Glint-Glint Fruit = Lightquake!

Diamond-Diamond Fruit + Glint-Glint Fruit = Flash Diamond!

Then there were all kinds of other ideas.

Light beams.

Compression.

Focusing attacks.

The possibilities were endless.

The more he thought about them, the itchier he became.

The desire consumed nearly all of his thoughts.

Many nights, Jozu would lie awake staring at the ceiling, imagining himself wielding the power of light.

The fantasies filled him with both excitement and anxiety.

Because before he could obtain that power—

He needed money.

A lot of money.

Ron frowned slightly.

This was Skypiea.

The legendary City of Gold.

How could there possibly be a shortage of money?

There should be gold everywhere.

Yet judging by Jozu’s expression, it seemed he hadn’t earned a single Berries .

"Uh..."

As soon as the topic came up, Jozu became visibly embarrassed.

His face even reddened slightly.

"I thought the locals were poor, so I told my men to..."

"..."

Ron immediately understood.

Everything made sense.

He wanted to laugh.

He really wanted to laugh.

But seeing Jozu’s tragic expression, he somehow managed to hold it in.

"I see..."

Ron deliberately dragged out the words.

" Ron , there’s plenty of gold here, but as a Division Commander, I can’t exactly go back and demand the treasure from my subordinates now, can I?"

His voice became quieter and quieter.

By the end, he was practically mumbling.

Looking at Jozu’s awkward appearance, Ron found it rather amusing.

Jozu was normally a proud man who carried himself with authority.

Yet this time he had thoroughly trapped himself.

Still, Ron could understand.

Who wouldn’t want more wealth when standing on a mountain of gold?

"Relax."

Ron waved his hand casually.

"There are plenty of ways to make money."

"Really?!"

Jozu’s eyes instantly transformed into sparkling diamonds.

He stared at Ron as though he had just witnessed a miracle.

"Really. Have I ever lied to you?"

Ron gently pushed Jozu back.

The man had nearly shoved his face directly into Ron’s.

"Let me think."

Jozu immediately fell silent.

As expected.

Ron always had a solution.

After a brief moment of thought, Ron began listing possibilities.

"There are quite a few places with enormous wealth."

"The Happo Navy’s Ice Continent treasure."

"The Pure Gold inside a certain giant fish."

"Golden Emperor Gild Tesoro’s entertainment city."

"The Heavenly Tribute."

"And several others."

Jozu’s eyes widened with every word.

What was a true big brother?

This.

This was a true big brother.

The admiration he felt for Ron became permanently engraved into his soul.

"Brother!"

Jozu suddenly grabbed Ron’s hands.

"You’re my real brother! Let’s go get rich right now!"

His expression looked so sincere that he resembled a devout believer receiving divine revelation.

"Calm down."

Ron smiled helplessly.

"I’m not finished yet."

After shaking off Jozu’s enormous hands, Ron continued.

"Those places exist, but finding some of them isn’t easy."

"Compared to the Pure Gold inside that giant fish or the Happo Navy’s treasure, Gild Tesoro’s entertainment city is much easier to locate."

A trace of disappointment flashed through Jozu’s eyes.

Still, he remained quiet.

If Ron brought it up, there had to be a reason.

"But there’s an even faster way to make money."

Ron smiled mysteriously.

Jozu blinked.

"What way?"

Ron leaned back slightly.

"Wait for the money to come to us."

"...What?"

Jozu froze.

His normally sharp mind completely stalled.

"Wait for it to come to us?"

He scratched his head.

"Did Berries eat a Devil Fruit and learn how to fly to Skypiea by itself?"

Ron stared at him speechlessly.

Most of the time, Jozu was a genius when it came to combat.

Sometimes, however...

He could be astonishingly dense.

Sighing, Ron explained patiently.

"That’s not what I mean."

"I’m saying we can find a more efficient way to make money instead of searching for treasure ourselves."

Jozu still looked confused.

Ron simply patted his shoulder.

"Don’t worry. I’ll solve the money problem."

Hearing that, Jozu finally relaxed.

He trusted Ron completely.

If Ron said there was a way—

Then there was a way.

As Jozu’s worries eased, Ron lowered his gaze.

His eyes seemed to pierce through the endless sea of clouds.

If everything had gone according to plan...

Bellamy should have successfully delivered the message by now.

And if nothing unexpected happened—

Donquixote Doflamingo would soon be begging for a meeting.
