One-Eyed Monster
Chapter 1449 Conversation
Douglas and Amoon were drinking in the tavern, one glass after another.
They could never have imagined that Igor would choose to converse with such a person.
"Such a choice doesn't seem so abrupt." Douglas frowned, having drunk a bit too much, he couldn't help but burp.
"We should have guessed his choice beforehand." Amoon seemed a bit unwilling to accept it.
"It's no use dwelling on it now, we overlooked the details we should have captured, that's indeed a bit careless of us."
"Let's see what he gains from it, I've never thought a beggar appearing in Romanvis was normal, and he chose a beggar!" Amoon had his own perspective.
"He has his reasons, let's just watch quietly. I thought he took the food for himself, to eat, but unexpectedly, hehe..." Douglas sneered twice, his tone clearly showing he was also at a loss regarding Igor's choice outside.
Igor chose a beggar outside as his conversation partner, no one really knew what he was thinking.
Perhaps in other places, beggars might know a lot of things, as they are the bottom layer of a city, like underground rats that can be found everywhere. Many crow organizations in cities rely on beggars; one could say beggars make up a massive information system on the continent.
But in this Romanvis, it's clearly a different story.
There are no beggars here all year round, even though most people here are refugees from the Vero Realm, these refugees would never choose to beg in this place. Because the resources in Romanvis are still abundant, no one will starve as long as they have hands.
So in Romanvis, there are no beggars, only refugees.
The xenophobic Vero people would never treat outsiders kindly, much less a beggar, so seeing beggars here is definitely unusual.
It was for this reason that Amoon and Douglas were skeptical of Igor's choice.
They even felt it was because Igor was too young and fell into someone else's trap.
Although they also thought of rescuing Igor, for some reason, they wanted to see if Igor could escape the trap on his own.
That trap, something they unanimously agreed on.
But Igor didn't think it was a trap; he had observed for a long time before finally choosing that beggar.
The beggar gratefully accepted Igor's food, devouring it happily.
Igor believed that there was nothing more real than the sight before him. He wasn't a fool, knowing that his observations wouldn't be wrong, and also knowing that his choice would definitely be questioned by the two seniors, but he still chose this beggar.
He felt that the people here, behaving normally, were fake, like machines, and that only this beggar was the true original resident of this place.
Igor didn't intentionally seek out the beggar for a conversation; he felt that forcing the beggar to talk would be counterproductive. If the beggar had stories to tell, they would naturally surface. He trusted his instincts, so he simply provided food for the beggar.
Food is the best means of communication.
The beggar was incredibly hungry, and the roast meat Igor gave wasn't enough to fill him, so Igor offered more of his rations to the beggar.
After being full, the beggar stared blankly at Igor, looking at him with the same eyes as he would at those normal passers-by, unable to believe it, unsure of how to express his inner world at that moment.
Igor didn't say anything, knowing that the beggar feared him, thinking of him as one of those normal, walking people.
Normal people being abnormal, abnormal people being normal, this was indeed quite peculiar. Igor couldn't help but chuckle to himself...
"Are you new here?" The beggar asked, trembling, finally managing to say a word.
It was a good start, a beginning that could open a window of communication. Igor thought to himself and responded with a hum, acknowledging.
"May I ask, do you have more food?"
Igor nodded, indicating that he still had some rations left, which he had prepared for himself and hadn't eaten yet.
"Could you, please, be so kind, to give me a little more…" The beggar shakily stretched out his hands.
"Mm!" Igor responded concisely, directly handing over his rations to the beggar.
"I want to give it to my companions… They are starving! These days, we haven't been able to get any food; it's truly tragic, boohoo..." Tears almost rolled down from the beggar's eyes.
"Isn't this place Romanvis?" Igor asked, thinking it was time now, as the old beggar was gradually opening up to him, and he could start asking about the situation here.
"You, you're indeed not one of them, you really are not one of them!" Hearing Igor's words, the old beggar suddenly became excited, as if he had found a savior.
"Who are 'they'?" Igor asked again.
"Though you're not one of them, you are from Kayne, not Vero like us!" The old beggar looked Igor over and said.
"I hail from the Kayne Realm…" Igor did not hide, believing that honesty was the foundation of mutual trust.
"You're a good person, a kind-hearted person!" The old beggar looked at the food in his hands, immersing himself in appreciation.
"Could you tell me, what exactly happened here?" Igor gently encouraged, wanting to learn what had happened in this Romanvis through the old beggar.
"Demons, demons have taken over here; they, they are demons!" The beggar's emotions suddenly became agitated, as if stimulated by something.
Noticing the anomaly, Igor refrained from pressing further; he started carefully observing his surroundings to see who was exerting pressure on the old beggar here.
"Kind-hearted man, leave here quickly, leave quickly…" The old beggar came up and grabbed Igor's hand, intending to take him away to escape!
Igor didn't resist; he could feel a formidable force approaching this direction, seemingly an energy.
"Why is this happening!" Igor mumbled a sentence, then unfolded his Spirit Power shield, enclosing the old beggar within it as well.
Boom!
A flame suddenly whooshed up around Igor and the old beggar, the sound was deafening.
"Not good!" In the tavern, Douglas and Amoon both stood up, they hadn't expected things to escalate so quickly.
What surprised Amoon and Douglas even more was that everyone in the tavern who had been drinking at that moment picked up weapons, methodically and orderly marched out of the tavern, resembling a well-trained army...
