On a Stormy Night, the Campus Belle Knocked on My Door Seeking Shelter
Chapter 175: Best Playmate
"Wow, that girl is gorgeous! Not bad taste, Brother Mo," Chu Mengyao said with a laugh, slinging an arm around Chen Mo’s shoulder.
Chen Mo opened his water, took a sip, and changed the subject. "How were your test scores?"
"Definitely passed, of course! You can tell just by looking at me that I’m super athletic," Chu Mengyao said, patting her chest.
Chen Mo glanced at Chu Mengyao’s flat chest. ’This girl certainly has less baggage to worry about than most when she’s exercising,’ he thought.
"Anyway, let’s not talk about that. Brother Mo, last time I heard my mom say you got a really pretty girlfriend. Is it that beauty over there?" Chu Mengyao asked with a smile.
But beneath her joking tone, there seemed to be a hint of jealousy.
"This is grown-up business. Kids shouldn’t ask so many questions," Chen Mo said, changing the subject with another smile.
"Hey, hey, hey! You’re only two months older than me, and you really think you’re a grown-up? Come on, fess up." Chu Mengyao wasn’t stupid; she wasn’t falling for the topic change.
Chen Mo smiled helplessly. "We’re just friends. Don’t go spouting nonsense in front of her."
He clarified at once, afraid Chu Mengyao would say something stupid.
"Really?" Chu Mengyao looked at Chen Mo, her eyes full of scrutiny.
"Why would I lie to you? You’re not Aunt Lin. If I had a girlfriend, I might hide it from your mom, but is there any reason to hide it from you?"
"That’s true." Chu Mengyao relaxed for a moment, but then she tensed up again. "Wait, that’s not right. My mom said you even helped her buy underwear!"
"SHH!" Seeing that Chu Mengyao wasn’t bothering to lower her voice, Chen Mo looked as guilty as a thief, quickly glancing left and right. When he saw no one was paying attention, he whispered, "It’s a complicated situation. Just don’t say anything stupid, okay?"
"Alright, fine, I won’t say anything stupid. But you’ll have to treat me to something good to eat to keep this mouth of mine shut," Chu Mengyao said with a grin.
"Oh, right. I still owe Aunt Lin a favor from last time. I said I’d treat her to a meal. When you get home, ask your mom when she’s free. I’ll treat both of you," Chen Mo said, remembering his promise to treat Lin Yuwei to a meal when they were buying clothes.
"She should be free this weekend. Her shop basically has no customers, so she’s got plenty of time."
"We’ll sort it out then," Chen Mo said with a nod.
As they spoke, he subconsciously glanced in Su Yuqing’s direction, and his eyes met hers just as she was looking over.
Chen Mo smiled at her casually and didn’t think much of it.
But the scene from Su Yuqing’s perspective was enough to send her mind racing.
From Chen Mo’s own point of view, he had run into a childhood friend—someone who was practically one of the guys—and they were just catching up.
But from Su Yuqing’s perspective, a girl with a pretty, round face and eyes that were beautiful when she smiled had suddenly appeared by Chen Mo’s side.
The two of them were extremely close, sitting practically on top of each other.
The girl’s hand was even draped over Chen Mo’s shoulder.
One look was all it took to see that their relationship was far from ordinary.
This set alarm bells ringing in Su Yuqing’s mind, which was already racing to figure out their relationship.
It was so bad that when it was her turn for the exam, she didn’t even hear her name called until the teacher had reminded her three times. Only then did she snap out of it and start the test.
But her mind was completely preoccupied with thoughts of Chen Mo and the mysterious girl.
All she could think about was finishing the test quickly so she could go over and investigate.
Zhao Yuanyuan noticed her reaction and immediately looked over in their direction.
Seeing Chu Mengyao next to Chen Mo, Zhao Yuanyuan, whose first instinct was always to stand by her best friend, immediately felt hostile toward her.
Meanwhile, Chen Mo and Chu Mengyao were still chatting familiarly, just like old times.
"Brother Mo, do you have any plans for your college applications?" Chu Mengyao asked curiously.
"Not really. I’ll figure it out when the time comes," Chen Mo replied casually.
’How could he possibly admit that he was just going to apply to whatever college Su Yuqing chose?’
"Half the semester is already over, and you’re still going to ’figure it out when the time comes’? Shouldn’t you have started planning earlier?" Chu Mengyao gave Chen Mo a speechless look.
"No rush. The first step is to get my grades up. Then I can apply wherever I want," Chen Mo replied with a smile.
"I guess that makes sense. So, how are your grades?"
"Just so-so. Only first in our grade." Chen Mo didn’t usually like to show off, but he couldn’t resist joking around with his childhood friend.
"What? First in the grade?" Chu Mengyao gave him a look that said, ’Do I look like I believe you?’ "You’re full of it."
"You don’t believe me? Look at this sincere face."
"I’ll just ask around and find out. If you’re lying, then after high school graduation, you have to grind a National Standard rank Daji for me."
The reason Chen Mo and Chu Mengyao had become such good friends was that they had both loved playing video games since they were little.
They were the perfect gaming buddies.
But once they got to middle school, their parents forbade them from playing games for the sake of their studies.
Of course, they could have played in secret, but if they were caught, their allowance would be docked.
That was something they couldn’t bear, so they had no choice but to endure.
Usually, they would only get together to play during winter and summer breaks.
"And if I’m not lying..."
"I’ll play support for you for 100 games, and I’ll do whatever you say in-game!"
"Deal," Chen Mo said with a laugh.
This girl was incredibly opinionated when she played games. Their conflicting opinions often led to strategic failures.
If she really followed his orders, that would be a pretty sweet deal.
So many years had passed that Chen Mo had almost forgotten the joy he felt playing games at this age.
After what happened to Su Yuqing, he had given up all forms of entertainment, let alone games. He had dedicated himself completely to physical training and rigorous study.
Every day was spent either studying or training.
All so he could get into the best police academy and find the real culprit for Su Yuqing!
Now that he was back in high school, he had sworn to seize this second chance and wantonly enjoy the youth he’d lost. Chen Mo was going to make up for all of it!
Just then, Huang Mao finished his exam and walked over.
As he approached, he shot a surprised glance at Chu Mengyao, who was sitting next to Chen Mo.
He had no idea where Chen Mo had managed to find such a pretty girl.
"Yellow Hair, quick, come be my witness. What was my rank on the midterm exam?"
Huang Mao froze for a second, then said, "First in the grade."
"See? Would I lie to you?" Chen Mo said, looking at Chu Mengyao with a smile.
Although she didn’t know Huang Mao, it didn’t look like he and Chen Mo had planned this out with some secret code. The fact that he could casually say Chen Mo was first in the grade meant it was most likely true.
"Brother Mo, did you mutate or something? How did your grades suddenly get so good?" Chu Mengyao asked in shock.
At that moment, Huang Mao looked at Chu Mengyao curiously and asked, "And this is?"
As he spoke, Huang Mao’s phone buzzed with a text. He glanced at it and saw it was from Zhao Yuanyuan.
