Chapter 5881: Undying Eye
Chapter 5881: Undying Eye
Liu Changtian sat silently on his throne within the grand palace. Before him stood over a thousand Sovereign sprouts of the Undying race. Though his expression remained indifferent, he was shocked inside.
He and the other elders had attempted to observe their training, but the Seven Treasure Colored Glass Tree had a space of its own—one they couldn’t enter. From the outside, all they could hear were constant howls, roars, and screams from the Sovereign sprouts.
Since Liu Changtian couldn’t see anything, he gave up. If he lingered too long, Long Chen might suspect him of trying to steal his methods, and that would be beneath his dignity.
Now, a month had passed since the training began. As Liu Changtian looked at the Sovereign sprouts, it was as if he were seeing a group of entirely different people. Their eyes were sharp and resolute. Even when facing him, they no longer behaved like subservient juniors.
Before, meeting Liu Changtian’s gaze would have been considered disrespectful, even blasphemous. But after enduring countless brushes with death, such etiquette had lost its meaning.
They dared to look Liu Changtian in the eye—not out of rebellion, but because they wanted him to see their growth and power. They were no longer fragile greenhouse flowers. They had grown, and now they were ready to fight for the Undying race.
At the head of the group stood Long Chen, flanked by Liu Ruyan and Chu Yao.
The Undying race’s disciples looked at Long Chen with complex emotions—respect, reverence, and a touch of resentment. Even now, some refused to believe that Long Chen had slain that terrifying existence. After all, they were all Heaven Saints—how could the gap between them be so vast?
That bitterness tempered the pride they should’ve felt from their complete transformation.
After Liu Changtian’s gaze had swept over every Sovereign sprout, he nodded.“Good. Very good. This is what the next generation of the Undying race should look like.”
Liu Changtian was not one to offer praise lightly. To hear it now left many of the disciples overwhelmed.
Several of the female disciples quietly sobbed. This past month had been a trial by fire—one that nearly broke them. Without mutual support and encouragement, they might not have made it through.
Now, with just a few words of acknowledgment from Liu Changtian, all their suffering felt worthwhile.
Standing beside him, Liu Xihua wore a warm smile. Seeing the younger generation’s rapid growth filled her with relief.
Though the Undying race still commanded fear and respect across the world, they faced a crisis—whether the next generation could shoulder their legacy.
The elders like Liu Changtian and other ancient powerhouses were deterrents to enemies—for now. But time waited for no one. Eventually, the burden would fall to these disciples. Old-timers like them would be left behind sooner or later.
Before that happened, they had to teach the junior generation to stand on their own feet. That was why so much pressure had been placed on Liu Ruyan. Liu Changtian saw immense potential in her and wanted to make her his successor.
Hence, Liu Ruyan’s relationship with Long Chen had given him a headache.
But now, seeing all the Sovereign sprouts reborn through fire, he was filled with anticipation.
Liu Changtian suddenly declared, “Originally, this was a task I intended for after you advanced to the Human Emperor realm—after I used my essence blood to summon our ancestors to bless you all. But Long Chen’s arrival has advanced the plan. To speak frankly, it’s a shameful matter… one of our race’s greatest treasures has fallen into the hands of outsiders. Now, it is time to reclaim it.”
Everyone was shocked but didn’t dare to ask it out loud. To avoid an awkward silence, Long Chen quickly stepped in and asked, “What treasure?”
“It is a sacred object of our Undying race, the gem of the Undying Scepter, the Undying Eye,” replied Liu Changtian.
“What?!”
All the Undying race’s experts were stunned to hear that, staring at him in disbelief.
“That’s right,” Liu Changtian continued. “The eye that blessed all of you is only one of the four secondary eyes. The true Undying Eye has long been in the possession of the Devil Eye Water Lily race. During the primal chaos war, our Undying Scepter was shattered. We only recovered a single secondary eye. The Devil Eye Water Lily race believes we are unaware of this. For all these years, they’ve been attempting to subdue the Undying Eye.”
He sneered. “What they don’t know is that their efforts have merely helped the Undying Eye recover from its injuries. Now that you all have matured, it’s time to stop enduring. The tree demon race is already under pressure from all sides. If we don’t bare our fangs now, Lord Brahma and Yan Xu will destroy us from within!”
The Undying race’s disciples felt their blood boiling when they heard that their target was the Devil Eye Water Lily race. Last time, the Daluo Azure Lotus race’s provocation had angered them immensely.
If the Devil Eye Water Lily race had simply provoked them, that would have been one thing. Though the Undying Willow race’s prestige was higher, their actual power was fairly matched. But instead of coming themselves, they had sent the Daluo Azure Lotus race to provoke them. That was a clear insult.
Although the Undying Willows had managed to vent their anger thanks to Long Chen, they were still irritated.
Had Liu Changtian not been present, they would’ve erupted into cheers.
“Long Chen, you’re full of little tricks. I’ll leave this matter to you,” said Liu Changtian.
Long Chen blinked, startled. “Sovereign Lord, you…?”
He hadn’t been briefed about any of this.
“I won’t permit you to refuse. I await your good news.”
With those final words, Liu Changtian vanished, leaving behind a stunned audience.
“Who plays around like this? I’m just a Heaven Saint. Does he expect me to storm into the Devil Eye Water Lily race’s territory by myself and snatch the eye?” demanded Long Chen.
Even Liu Minghao and the others were confused. How could such an important matter be left to Long Chen? What about the rest of them? Why were they even summoned?
Liu Ruyan and Chu Yao also found this unreasonable. The mission seemed impossible.
Long Chen could only shrug helplessly.
Just then, Liu Xihua laughed gently and said, “Don’t worry. The Sovereign Lord only meant that you’ll be the leader of this mission. The Undying race’s upper echelon, including myself, will accompany you. The rest of you as well. If you encounter enemies beyond your level, the elders will handle them. You don’t need to worry.”
When Long Chen heard that Liu Xihua and the others were also coming, his guts instantly swelled. He laughed heroically.
“Well then, this is easy! Bossing around seniors? That’s my specialty. I’ll handle the arrangements.”
