Chapter 1328: King Within the Ten Thousand Demon Cave

  • Next Chapter

Although the Ten Thousand Demon Cave was ten thousand miles away, Chu Linfeng and his companions reached it quickly due to their strength. The cave wasn’t hard to find; beneath a cliff stood a huge sign clearly displaying the characters for “Ten Thousand Demon Cave.”

At this moment, the Jade Immortal Emperor felt drowsy. Chu Linfeng glanced at her and said, “Emerald, you and Lingxiao wait here. After I go inside to take a look, I’ll let you in. Take this time for a good rest.”

“You must be careful. The inside of the Ten Thousand Demon Cave is perilous; don’t be careless. With Lingxiao by my side, I’ll be fine!” the Jade Immortal Emperor replied.

Chu Linfeng said nothing more. With a shift of thought, he used the Light Transformation Technique, disappearing in front of the two women. Slowly, he made his way toward the entrance of the Ten Thousand Demon Cave.

The Ten Thousand Demon Cave was actually a massive cavern, but outside the entrance lay countless skeletons. These were likely the remains of those from the Demon Realm who tried to enter, or perhaps it was these skeletons that formed the remnant souls within, a mystery awaiting Chu Linfeng to unravel.

Chu Linfeng quickly ventured inside the Ten Thousand Demon Cave. It was eerie here, and a mountain breeze sent chills down one’s spine, but Chu Linfeng, being courageous and skilled, paid it no mind.

The further he went, the darker it became. Upon entering the cave’s mouth, he felt an Invisible Barrier that seemingly had no effect on him; otherwise, he couldn’t have gotten through. Perhaps this barrier prevented the remnant souls within from leaving, but the skeletons on the ground baffled him.

Logically, these skeletons were left by people venturing into the cave, and many looked recent, perhaps decades or centuries old. But, the cave had existed long before, so the theory of these skeletons forming remnant souls didn’t quite add up.

If the remnant souls within the cave weren’t formed by these skeletons, then who slaughtered them and left their remains here? Pondering these questions, Chu Linfeng delved further, spreading his Divine Sense to watch for any signs of movement or danger.

The darkness intensified as he moved farther in, reaching a point where he couldn’t see his hand before his face. However, Chu Linfeng possessed the ability to perceive in the dark, not as clearly as in daylight, but close enough.

Inside the cave, he saw numerous skeletons along the way. Some were black, others white, some pale golden, and those strange purple ones confused him.

He didn’t understand why those from the Demon Realm had such varied bones upon death; the only explanation was that many different races existed within the Demon Realm, with both lowly and noble blood.

Chu Linfeng walked slowly, encountering several remnant souls but easily avoiding them. With the Heaven-Defying Sky Mirror in hand and the Soul Slash at his disposal, he felt confident in his safety.

As he continued, the cave grew more expansive, and occasionally, he heard chilling screams, enough to terrify anyone. The remnant souls capable of making such noises weren’t ordinary; they might as well be called monsters.

After about half a stick of incense worth of time, Chu Linfeng reached a vast platform. There, he halted, sensing he’d entered the cave’s central area, where remnant souls were abundant, dancing both above and on the ground, yet not one collided with him.

Whenever a soul came near, he deftly dodged it. Suddenly, an ancient voice resounded from atop a high platform, drawing Chu Linfeng’s gaze to a figure that resembled a skeleton. What shocked him was that the skeleton was purple, devoid of flesh, akin to a ghostly race from the Netherworld, which was rather odd.

After all, this was the Demon Realm, not the Netherworld; ghosts shouldn’t exist here. The only conclusion was a powerful remnant soul had possessed the purple skeleton, able to move and speak despite lacking a flesh body.

Why it could speak was a mystery to Chu Linfeng; perhaps its powerful soul could manifest sound through unique methods, just like ghostly beings who, despite having no flesh, could talk, walk, and even eat and drink. Yet where they put the consumed food and drink remained unknown.

“In half a month, two grand events will occur in the Ten Thousand Demon Cave. Then, you will choose suitable skeleton limbs and join me in celebrating this momentous occasion,” the voice declared.

Chu Linfeng stood there, taken aback that such events could arise in this godforsaken place, alongside a so-called king. He truly wished to discover what these creatures planned, so he chose to stay.

“In half a month, the once-in-ten-thousand-years Soul Mushroom will mature. Once I fully absorb its energy, I’ll grow a flesh body, surpassing even the Yin Yang Demon Emperor in strength, thereby ruling the entire Demon Realm.”

“You will gain freedom as well. I will break open the Ten Thousand Demon Cave’s barrier, allowing you to leave and find a flesh body to possess, returning to human form.”

“Meanwhile, I will marry the most beautiful woman from the cave, reshaping her body. I expect you to guard the cave’s entrance, preventing any Demon Realm inhabitants from entering.”

“Reliable sources say the Yin Yang Demon Emperor perished in the recent Immortal-Demon War. I no longer fear anyone, and during this time, I will protect the Soul Mushroom with all my might. The cave’s safety is in your hands,” declared the purple skeleton.

Chu Linfeng hadn’t anticipated that the purple skeleton was the king here and barely weaker than the Yin Yang Demon Emperor. This posed a significant challenge, requiring extra caution.

Suddenly, numerous voices echoed in the cave, and several skeletons rose to worship the purple skeleton.

Chu Linfeng felt a mix of joy and worry: joy that the Soul Mushroom had been found, worry that he had to wait half a month to acquire it, and by then, the entrance from the Demon Realm to the Immortal Realm would be sealed. It would take considerable effort to break through.

Considering his current circumstances, the Soul Mushroom and rescuing Meng Ji’s remnant soul were paramount. He instinctively felt that the skeleton king’s most beautiful woman might be Meng Ji’s remnant soul…
