Yang Xiao knew that for minor issues, the Steward would typically overlook them on his account. However, if such matters ever reached the ears of the Cannibal Buddha, those two girls would be doomed, and they might even implicate their families.

The Cannibal Buddha, having attained such a position, was no benevolent figure; his actions were decisive and ruthless, not tolerating any grains of sand in his eyes.

The execution of the two young priests was just an example.

Though he had a close relationship with the Cannibal Buddha, who even acknowledged him as a foster son, Yang Xiao never dared to be negligent in front of the Cannibal Buddha, not daring to act out of line.

The land of Myanmar and Thailand was home to many ruthless individuals. The Cannibal Buddha treated him well, but was notorious outside. Essentially, he was the same kind of person as the White Robe Dharma King of the Dharma Sect; it was only because Yang Xiao had shown kindness to him without touching his sensitive nerves.

If he got upset, he might not even give face to the Yin Temple High Priest, let alone anyone else. This was a true top-level powerhouse, a lawless rebel.

Years ago, a caravan guarded by Netherworld Envoys was intercepted on the Esoteric Sect’s grounds; not only were all goods taken, but all the people were killed and their bodies exhibited at the border. Even a powerful Chamber of Commerce had no recourse.

Yang Xiao believed he survived this long because he understood the rules, knew his boundaries, and mastered the level of interaction with these truly powerful figures.

Seeing that his intention to warn them had been achieved, Yang Xiao then eased his approach significantly, "Don’t kneel anymore, stand up; let this be the last time."

"If it happens again, I’ll have you summoned before the High Priest for a reward." Yang Xiao feigned a fierce look to intimidate them.

To his surprise, one of the girls, with red eyes, immediately burst into tears, "I won’t dare again, I really won’t, please don’t take me to..."

"Ah this..." Yang Xiao was taken aback for a moment, not expecting the girl to be so easily frightened. He had to resort to offering candies and cookies, comforting her for a long time until she finally calmed down.

Yang Xiao really liked these two girls. Back when he and Professor Cui’s group were nominally under protection but effectively under house arrest by the Esoteric Sect, all others were wary and even hostile, except these two girls who always stayed with him, adding some color and joy to those dark times.

Yang Xiao didn’t want them to face misfortune after he left, hence he reminded them.

The other girl seemed to suddenly remember something, putting down the snacks in hand to remind him, "Benefactor, someone from the Forbidden Army came at noon, asking me to inform you once you’re awake. He apparently has matters to discuss with you."

"The Forbidden Army..." Yang Xiao didn’t know what they wanted with him, but he had the girl go out to inform them regardless.

Soon, someone arrived, lifting the curtain, revealing Yang Xiao’s old acquaintance Elder Kunpa. At that moment, the two girls sensibly exited the room, with candies and jerky given by Yang Xiao tucked in their arms.

Upon seeing each other again today, Elder Kunpa’s attitude towards Yang Xiao was even more enthusiastic, grinning as he said, "Young Priest, your performance last night was truly remarkable; you did us a great favor, and the High Priest couldn’t praise you enough."

"It’s all due to the High Priest’s strategic command and the Elder’s proper arrangement. I was just following orders," Yang Xiao didn’t take all the credit.

"By the way, I came today to relay a message from the Martyr. He wishes to grant you a secret opportunity," said Elder Kunpa.

"A secret opportunity?" Yang Xiao was a bit surprised, also somewhat anxious. He instinctively thought of the bloated shadows he had seen before, along with the overpowering aura, all of which secretly unsettled him.

Perhaps noticing Yang Xiao’s concerns, Elder Kunpa reassured him, implying he needn’t worry.

The Martyr now acknowledged the legitimacy of the High Priest’s rule, and as a link between the Esoteric believers and the Holy Temple Spirit, the Martyr would never lie.

"Does my foster father know about this?" Yang Xiao asked.

"Of course."

Seeing Elder Kunpa’s straightforward answer, Yang Xiao was somewhat relieved. If he couldn’t trust Elder Kunpa and the Martyr, could he not trust the Cannibal Buddha? Moreover, he was remarkably curious about what this so-called opportunity would entail.

Seeing Yang Xiao agree, Elder Kunpa asked him to wait and rest. Before the Third Watch of the Night, someone would come looking for him, as preparations were required on the Martyr’s end.

Meanwhile, Elder Kunpa also informed Yang Xiao that the Magic Artifact and Elixir he requested were being prepared, advising him not to worry as they would be ready within three days at most.

"Thank you, Elder Kunpa," Yang Xiao clasped his fists in gratitude.

"Haha, we’re like family now, no need for formalities. The High Priest once said you’re a lucky charm for our Esoteric Sect. I didn’t believe it then, but now it seems I was short-sighted. If there were any offenses in the past, I hope the young priest will forgive me," Elder Kunpa now found everything about Yang Xiao pleasing to the eye.

After saying what he needed to say, Elder Kunpa left, leaving Yang Xiao alone in the room again.

Time quickly passed to midnight when a group dressed in traditional Esoteric Sect attire arrived, led by an elderly man resembling a lama, who seemed over 80 years old and was a stranger to Yang Xiao.

The accompanying individuals explained to Yang Xiao that this was the Grand Temple Master of the Holy Temple, and then Yang Xiao, filled with unease, followed the group on their way.

The group made several turns and twists, returning to the building they had visited the previous night. Gazing at the strange building shrouded in darkness, Yang Xiao’s underlying anxiety became more tangible.
