"What was that?" Ma Jing silently swallowed and felt increasingly uneasy.

"I saw a person crouching beneath the second table in front of me, and there were people eating beside it, but they seemed unaware that someone was hiding under the table."

"I was just about to ask my wife to turn around and look, and then...then that person suddenly lifted their head." At this point, the man’s face turned pale and his voice trembled, "But that person...that person had no face, the skin looked like it had been completely ripped off, bloody."

"What?!" At that moment, Ma Jing couldn’t hold it in any longer and stood up quickly.

The man still hadn’t shaken off his fear, crying with a mournful face, "I was so scared at the time, then I choked on my food. If it weren’t for Doctor Ma being there, I’m afraid I might have lost my life. Do you think...do you think I’ve attracted something unclean?"

"Did you get a good look at what the person under the table was wearing, could you identify them?" Hu Weimin was obviously getting nervous too.

"Oh, come on, with that question. I was so scared I almost passed out, how could I have paid that much attention?" The man was almost angered by Hu Weimin’s question.

The atmosphere in the ward dropped to freezing point, and Hu Weimin’s biggest worry had happened; this wasn’t an ordinary accident, but another paranormal event.

However, he still couldn’t identify this Ghost’s identity or purpose.

But it was obvious that the two of them had already been swept into this paranormal event, all because of Ma Jing’s rash decision.

At this moment, Ma Jing’s face was ashen, whereas the man thought he had scared his savior, continuously apologizing, "Doctor Ma, don’t be scared. Maybe... maybe I was seeing things, just take it as me talking nonsense."

"In broad daylight, what Demons and Ghosts can there be? As long as our working class unites and clenches our fists, even capitalism is no match, let alone these remnants of old feudalism."

Hu Weimin glanced out the window; the sky outside was already completely dark, hardly the broad daylight the man spoke of.

At this moment, Ma Jing and Hu Weimin showed considerable calm. They steadied themselves and asked the man if anything strange had happened around him recently, but after asking, they found no clues.

The two faked calmness as they left the ward, and in the hallway outside, they discussed their current situation and still weren’t sure whether the Ghost was after them.

Nonetheless, they decided to continue heading to the Cultural Palace tonight to meet up with everyone and primarily report the incident to Yang Xiao for his advice.

After leaving the health center, the two hurried to the Cultural Palace at the fastest speed possible, and upon seeing Yang Xiao, they quickly recounted the incident in the canteen as fast as pouring beans out of a bamboo tube.

"You two didn’t see the Ghost from beginning to end, right?" Yang Xiao went straight to the point.

"No," Ma Jing shook her head.

"Neither did I. I even observed from between my legs, nothing unusual near the crowd," Hu Weimin said with a firm tone.

"Captain Ma, did I do something wrong? Will...will something happen tonight?" Ma Jing’s facade of strength crumbled instantly in front of Yang Xiao, casting aside her nurse identity, after all, she was just a young woman in her early twenties.

"Don’t cry yet, things haven’t reached that bad of a point," Ye Zheng consoled, "Go rest first, this matter sounds odd, we’ll have to think about it some more."

At this moment, quite a few people had already gathered in the Cultural Palace, and the night’s bustle was about to begin.

Because of this incident, the original plan had to be adjusted. Yang Xiao instructed Hu Weimin and Ma Jing not to go anywhere tonight, but to stay in the first-floor hall of the Cultural Palace and find a conspicuous spot to sit and rest.

They must report immediately if they see or even sense anything abnormal.

After these two left, Yang Xiao took a deep breath, slowly exhaled, and an indescribable heaviness appeared in his eyes.

"I think it’s not necessarily Ma Jing who’ll be in trouble tonight, it may be Hu Weimin," Ye Zheng said in a low voice, looking in the direction the two left.

Yang Xiao responded, "What you say is quite possible. Hu Weimin is cunning enough to know to stay away from chaotic scenes and observe from the periphery."

"But he overlooked one thing, not seeing the Ghost among the crowd does not mean the Ghost does not exist or has left. After all, there’s still one person by his side he hasn’t observed."

"It’s himself," Ye Zheng said coldly, "That Ghost is most likely hiding around him, targeting him."

"We’ll see tomorrow, our tasks tonight should be completed, you’ll be in charge of the cinema, stay sharp," Yang Xiao reminded Ye Zheng.

"I will, especially with Liu Hongwei accompanying me," Ye Zheng gave Yang Xiao a confident look.

Yang Xiao just smiled, as they still hadn’t figured out the Ghost’s killing methods, hence no effective defense. With this premise, anyone could become a victim.

Yang Xiao did not become complacent because of Hu Weimin and Ma Jing’s experiences, nor did he think their vicarious occurrence diluted the risk for others tonight.

Until the truth is revealed, every second could hide a deadly trap, learned from lessons paid in blood from their predecessors.

The arrangements for tonight are as follows: Hu Weimin and Ma Jing will handle the first-floor hall, Ye Zheng paired with Liu Hongwei will manage the auditorium cinema, Yang Xiao paired with Guo Tiejun will oversee the second-floor ballroom, Zhao Xuehua and Zhang Xiaomin will handle the third-floor patrol.

No one knows what will happen tonight, they can only pray for safety.

Not long ago, Yang Xiao received a call from the security department in the utility room. On the phone, Chief Zhou told him that they had found several former factory union guards who were involved in the Zhou Wenqing case.

However, the inquiry was not going well. These individuals were extremely resistant to questioning and had a confrontational attitude, so it’s now been handed over to Director Zhai for his expertise in dealing with such characters.

Moreover, regarding the meal ticket matter that Yang Xiao was concerned about before, there were some leads now, and the scope had narrowed, but more time was needed to pinpoint individuals.

Chief Zhou promised to give him an answer by tomorrow at the latest.

"Xiao Jie, there is one thing currently unfavorable to us; someone in the files has identified the perpetrator as Zhou Wenqing."

"That woman is Cui Hongying, also a victim of the attack case nine years ago, she was the second one."
