"The role of King of the Underworld might be an inherited one, but the role of the second-in-command is not." Ray announced before anyone could suspect that his uncle, the current president, was once a member of the underworld.
"So the president?" A general dared to ask.
"No, my father was quite shocked when I rebelled back in school and decided to accompany Ray when he joined the mafia and the gangs." Alexi said with a shrug.
"I thought he was only seated here because they were cousins." Seth said in surprise.
He, unlike the others, knew that Alexi had joined the Mafia for a time. He had encountered both cousins in the Dean Family Mafia before they had moved on. He didn't expect Alexi to hold a higher position in the underworld since he was a sitting government official.
"Cedric arranged the seats this way for a reason." Ian said with a shrug as he urged everyone to think of where they were positioned.
"Then why is Mr. Reyes not at the head of the table?" A mafia leader asked.
"Because he is supposed to sit back there." Ray said, rolling his eyes as he pointed at the desk behind him. "The puppet master, the one that's been controlling how our world works."
"We both know I don't control this country, Ray." Cedric contradicted him as he laughed at the notion.
"And yet anything that seems to bother you affects us all." Miguel said with a smile.
Unlike the others, Miguel, Eric, Ram, and their respective siblings, wives or girlfriends, were not seated around the table.
Instead they sat comfortable on a couch on the side as they watched the scene unfold before them.
This was another symbolism that they were outside of this structure. They were exempt from the rules that normally guided both the legal and illegal worlds.
Cedric simply smiled at his friend before addressing the group once more.
"Now that we have that out of the way, why don't we move on to what we need to do to get rid of Lucius Ting." Cedric said with a smile as he sat back down behind his desk. "Ian, care to explain?" He asked.
Ian nodded and stood up, making sure that everyone could see and hear him he told them about their plan and how it had three phases.
"The first part will be initiated by Guan Ming and his people." Ian said as he glanced at the foreign businessman.
"It's already running and Lucius Ting is completely confused as to why every businessman he planned to work with suddenly backed out." Guan Ming explained. "We have just hit a little problem, Lucius Ting has a new backer."
Ian nodded to acknowledge the problem Guan Ming informed them about.
"With the help of the Dean Family, we were able to determine that the people backing Lucius Ting are the Rajas." Ian announced, once more plunging the room into silence.
The people couldn't believe what they had heard, it was impossible that the Rajas were involved, and yet that was what Ian was telling them.
"I don't mean any offense Mr. Lim, but the Rajas have long been driven out of the country. There is nothing left of them here." A Mafia family leader said. He seemed to be quite familiar with Ian based on how calmly he spoke.
"That's what we thought as well." Ray said, joining in on the conversation. "Seth, will you please."
Seth nodded and stood up.
"Mr. Reyes, through Ian, asked for our help to find out what was happening on Lucius Ting's side. In the past he had someone in the inside, Camilla Montero, acting as Lucius Ting's girlfriend, but after his attempt to rape and kidnap Miss Montero, he had to pull her out." Seth explained. "That's where we came in, I sent some men to his innermost circle to gather what they could."
"And that's how you know that the Rajas are backing him?" The same man from earlier questioned. "How sure are you that these men had not been bought off by Lucius Ting or the men backing him now?"
"My men are loyal and cannot be bought, this is something the Dean family is known for." Seth argued.
Ian raised his hand, telling Seth that he would explain.
"The men the Dean family sent were people who were gravely harmed by Lucius Ting and his allies." Ian explained calmly. "Regardless of if these men were from the Dean Family, there is only one thing they want and that's revenge."
The other Mafia family leader backed down when Ian gave the explanation, accepting it as truth and trusting in his words.
"If the Rajas are back, then are you not worried that one of us is a spy for them?" A general asked as he looked at Alexi. To him, Alexi was his boss.
"We looked into everyone's backgrounds and found no reason to doubt the people in this room." Alexi explained. "Didn't you notice that some generals were missing? Or that some key government officials were not here?"
The general looked around and true enough there were some he expected to be present that were not around.
"Each of you have something in common." Alexi continued to speak as he did his best to look everyone in the eyes as he looked around. "The Rajas did something to your families and you all understand why they cannot return to power. Those that aren't here proved to be less trustworthy, but do not think for a moment that I will be lenient if any of you chooses to cross us."
With that the room was silenced, everyone felt the weight of Alexi's threat.
