Chapter 94: Chapter 94: Unsealing the Dragon Vein

Hyuga Kagami did not deny it. Maintaining his cold, emotionless tone, he said, "That’s right. The business I want to discuss with you concerns the Dragon Vein."

"No. Absolutely not!"

The Queen of Roran refused almost without a second thought.

Kagami did not bother asking a foolish question like why. Instead, he said coldly, "You don’t have the right to refuse."

The Queen of Roran caught the threat hidden within his words, but she showed no fear. Instead, she straightened her back and declared, "You have no idea what the power of the Dragon Vein represents. It is not something you can control. Give up your ambitions!"

Kagami shook his head. "You’re the one who doesn’t understand the situation. I already told you—you don’t have the right to refuse."

The Queen of Roran turned her head aside and fell silent, seemingly intending to resist Kagami in this manner.

"Listen to the voices outside. Your people followed you here, and now they’re struggling to survive in this desert." After a brief pause, Kagami’s voice grew even colder. "Can you really bear to watch them die one after another right in front of you?"

Dressed entirely in black and wearing that terrifying demon mask, Kagami’s appearance made his words all the more convincing.

The Queen of Roran’s face turned deathly pale at his words. She opened her mouth several times, but could not think of anything to say.

Just then, one of the Roran survivors arrived outside the queen’s tent and called out, "Your Highness, the soup is warmed up. Would you like me to bring it in?"

Inside the tent, Hyuga Kagami silently took out a kunai.

Seeing the cold gleam of the kunai in Kagami’s hand, the Queen of Roran’s heart leapt into her throat. She hurriedly called out to the person outside, "No need. I’m not hungry."

The Roran survivor outside replied, "If you get hungry, you can call for me anytime."

Hearing the footsteps outside gradually fade away, the Queen of Roran let out a long sigh of relief.

Kagami then asked, "Have you made your decision?"

The Queen of Roran finally gave in somewhat. "I can’t break the seal. There’s no point in forcing me."

"You don’t need to worry about the seal. All you need to do is help me control the Dragon Vein once it’s freed." After a brief pause, Kagami continued, "Once this is over, I’ll pay you a large sum of money. It’ll be enough for you and your people to improve your lives. Compared to a useless Dragon Vein, money is what you need most right now, isn’t it?"

Gently placing the baby in her arms onto the bed, the Queen of Roran said, "I’ll go with you, but you have to promise not to harm my people."

The Queen of Roran did not believe Kagami’s claim that he would pay her afterward in the slightest.

As far as she was concerned, once Kagami stole the Dragon Vein, the first thing he would probably do was kill everyone involved to silence them permanently.

But she had no choice. To protect her daughter and her people, she had decided to sacrifice herself. Besides, she knew that she was already gravely ill and did not have much time left anyway.

Hyuga Kagami gave the Queen of Roran no promises whatsoever. He simply took her away from the caravan, and after several swift leaps, the two disappeared into the darkness of the night.

Manto Oasis was not far from the ruins of Roran. After several hours of traveling, Kagami brought the Queen of Roran to the ruins.

Returning to the ruins of Roran once again, the Queen silently shed tears.

This was the place where she had been born and raised, and it was also the homeland she herself had abandoned.

Kagami stood quietly to the side, making no attempt to hurry the grieving queen.

In Kagami’s view, the decline of the ancient kingdom of Roran had been inevitable. As the saying went, possessing a treasure invites disaster. Roran possessed the Dragon Vein but lacked the strength to control it, so naturally, it would attract all manner of ambitious people seeking to claim it for themselves.

A short while later, the two arrived at the place where the Fourth Hokage had sealed the Dragon Vein.

The Queen of Roran pointed toward the seal on the ground. "This seal was personally placed by the Fourth Hokage of Konoha. If you can’t break it, then there’s nothing I can do to help you."

Kagami wasted no words. He slowly walked to the very center of the Dragon Vein’s seal and shouted in a low voice,

"Release!"

At Kagami’s command, a large portion of the sealing formula left behind by the Fourth Hokage rapidly vanished, and the entire Dragon Vein seal shrank considerably.

The Queen of Roran was startled. "I... I can sense the Dragon Vein!"

"Of course. I removed the Contract Seal from the Dragon Vein’s sealing formation, so the connection between you and it should have been restored." After giving that indifferent explanation, Hyuga Kagami asked, "What condition is the Dragon Vein in right now?"

The Queen of Roran sensed it carefully before replying, "It seems... very agitated."

Kagami glanced at her. "Agitated?"

The Queen of Roran hurriedly tried to persuade him. "You should give up. The power of the Dragon Vein isn’t something anyone can possess. If you continue undoing the seal, I’m afraid something terrible might happen."

Kagami smiled. "We’ve already come this far. Do you really think I’m going to stop now?"

The Queen of Roran shook her head and sighed. "You simply don’t understand how terrifying the Dragon Vein’s power truly is!"

Kagami coldly continued forming hand seals before shouting once more,

"Release!"

This time, what he undid was the Four Symbols Seal at the core of the Dragon Vein’s sealing formation.

And as Kagami released the Four Symbols Seal that formed the heart of the entire formation, the Dragon Vein’s seal immediately teetered on the verge of collapse.

Whoosh... Whoosh... Whoosh...

A fierce wind suddenly swept through the surroundings, filling the ruins with a continuous, howling roar.

Looking at the Dragon Vein’s crumbling seal, the corners of Hyuga Kagami’s mouth curled upward slightly.

This was precisely why he had been confident that he could break the Fourth Hokage’s seal on the Dragon Vein.

He had never needed to completely unravel the entire sealing formation. All he needed to do was create a small opening in it, and the imprisoned Dragon Vein would struggle with all its might to break free of the seal on its own.

At that moment, Kagami opened the scroll containing the artificial tailed beast’s body and lightly pressed his hand against it.

Poof...

As the cloud of smoke dispersed, a huge mass of Purple Clay Gel covered in intricate sealing formulas appeared before Kagami and the Queen of Roran.

Staring at the huge mass of Purple Clay Gel lying on the ground like a deflated balloon, the Queen of Roran asked, "What is that?"

As Kagami activated his Tenseigan beneath the demon mask, he calmly replied, "You don’t need to know what it is. Once the Dragon Vein breaks free, find a way to help me control it. Don’t let it run rampant."

Watching the Fourth Hokage’s seal gradually disintegrate, the Queen of Roran knew that no matter what she said now, it would be useless. Left with no other choice, she nodded.

Meanwhile, Kagami pushed his Tenseigan to its limit, staring intently at the Dragon Vein as it gradually broke free from its restraints.

The existence of the Dragon Vein could be considered one of the great unsolved mysteries of the shinobi world.

After all, there was simply no way for nature to spontaneously give birth to such an enormous mass of chakra—one powerful enough to rival a tailed beast.

In Kagami’s view, there were only a few beings capable of creating something like this.

It could have been the progenitor of chakra, Kaguya Otsutsuki, who had been sealed away for a thousand years, or perhaps one of her two sons, Hamura Otsutsuki or Hagoromo Otsutsuki.

Alternatively, it could have originated from some kind of otherworldly demon, or perhaps even an unknown evil god lurking somewhere within the shinobi world.

Whatever the truth was, the Dragon Vein was definitely not something that had naturally arisen within the shinobi world.

And that was precisely why Kagami desperately wanted to find out—

just what exactly was the Dragon Vein?
