Chapter 539: Chapter 539: Good Luck
Kagami and Orochimaru’s questions were actually something Danzo had anticipated long ago. After all, Root’s chief researcher had already privately explained to him how fusing different Kekkei Genkai would affect the refinement of the Chimera Technique, as well as the success rate of the final fusion ritual.
Simply put, fusing different Kekkei Genkai required varying degrees of fine-tuning to the Chimera Technique, and these adjustments would affect the refinement of the technique as a whole. Therefore, the sooner the Kekkei Genkai to be fused were finalized, the sooner the ultimate refinement of the Chimera Technique could be completed.
At the same time, the final fusion ritual also needed to be arranged according to the Kekkei Genkai being fused. Different combinations of Kekkei Genkai required different ritual arrangements.
It was precisely because of these objective factors that Kagami and Orochimaru had simultaneously pressured Danzo, demanding that he immediately disclose the Kekkei Genkai he intended to fuse.
Only then could the final stages of refining the Chimera Technique be carried out with a clear direction, and only then could the comprehensive design and planning of the final fusion ritual begin.
Faced with the scrutinizing gazes of Kagami and Orochimaru, Danzo’s expression grew increasingly gloomy.
Danzo understood all of this perfectly well. However, for someone accustomed to hiding in the shadows, the Kekkei Genkai he intended to fuse were core secrets concerning his very survival.
Originally, he had planned to delay matters as much as possible. Once the Chimera Technique was nearly perfected and he had ascended to the position of Hokage, he would cast aside Kamigami and Orochimaru, allowing his own research team to take over.
He would then use Konoha’s resources to independently complete the final fusion ritual, ensuring that his most critical secrets would never be leaked.
However, he had greatly underestimated the combined research capabilities of Kagami and Orochimaru and misjudged the progress of the Chimera Technique’s refinement.
At present, he had yet to become Hokage and still could not do without the support of Kamigami and Orochimaru.
Consequently, he suddenly found himself in a rather awkward predicament.
Seeing Danzo hesitating, Kagami decided to lay everything out in the open.
"In truth, you don’t have many options."
Danzo’s eyes narrowed. "What do you mean by that?"
Orochimaru also turned toward Kagami, a trace of puzzlement in his expression.
Kagami explained, "The Kekkei Genkai fused through the Chimera Technique cannot actually be chosen arbitrarily by the host. To increase the success rate of the fusion ritual and achieve a delicate balance among the various Kekkei Genkai within the body, they must be selected according to their chakra natures. Each Kekkei Genkai must exist in a state of mutual reinforcement and restraint with the others. That was precisely how Hiruko approached it."
Danzo frowned deeply, while the chief researcher beside him fell into contemplation.
On the other side, Orochimaru nodded slightly. Evidently, he had also considered this issue.
Kagami did not rush to speak again. Instead, he waited for Danzo and the others to digest the information he had just provided.
After a moment, Danzo asked warily, "What do you suggest?"
Kagami glanced at Danzo and said indifferently, "You’ve already transplanted Sharingan and the First Hokage’s cells, so your situation is more complicated than that of an ordinary person."
Danzo abruptly rose to his feet and demanded, "How do you know that I’ve transplanted Sharingan and the First Hokage’s cells?!"
Ever since transplanting the Sharingan and the First Hokage’s cells, Danzo had treated them as his trump cards and gone to great lengths to conceal them.
Not only did he deliberately walk with a cane, but he also wrapped his arm and body in bandages to deceive others. Furthermore, he rarely appeared in public.
As a result, very few people knew that he had transplanted Sharingan and the First Hokage’s cells.
Before Kagami could answer, Danzo’s sinister gaze swept toward Orochimaru.
After all, Orochimaru was one of the few people privy to this secret. In fact, he had been responsible for resolving many of the technical difficulties involved in the transplantation.
Sensing the undisguised killing intent emanating from Danzo, Orochimaru curled his lips into a smile and shrugged.
"This has nothing to do with me."
As he spoke, Orochimaru cast a glance at Kagami.
He had a vague idea of what had happened. Furin, who possessed the Byakugan, must have discovered Danzo’s secret and reported it to Kamigami. That was why Kamigami’s Homura knew about these matters.
However, Danzo had no idea that a pair of Byakugan was hidden beneath Furin’s storm-patterned mask. Therefore, in Orochimaru’s eyes, Danzo had unknowingly exposed his own secrets to Kamigami.
Kagami crossed his arms over his chest and said impatiently, "If Kamigami doesn’t thoroughly investigate your physical condition and design a corresponding fusion ritual, your chances of surviving the ritual will be zero! Sit down. I haven’t finished speaking!"
Danzo’s suspicious gaze swept over Kagami, Orochimaru, and even the chief researcher beside him. Only then did he finally sit back down with a gloomy expression.
Kagami continued, flipping through the documents as he spoke, "Your physical condition is extremely complicated, but from a certain perspective, this is also one of your greatest advantages."
Handing a document to Danzo, he continued, "The Kekkei Genkai Hiruko selected were the Sharingan, representing the Fire nature; Steel Release, representing Earth; Dark Release, representing Water; Swift Release, representing Wind; and Storm Release, representing Lightning. These five Kekkei Genkai correspond perfectly to the five basic chakra natures."
Danzo nodded, although his expression remained gloomy because of what had just happened.
Orochimaru wore a faint smile, his expression composed. After all, he had been present at Hiruko’s Kekkei Genkai fusion ritual and had personally witnessed the entire process.
Kagami suddenly changed the subject.
"However, what truly allowed Hiruko to survive the Kekkei Genkai fusion ritual wasn’t the ritual he designed, but sheer luck! In fact, there was an extremely fatal flaw in his ritual, and his good fortune unknowingly compensated for that flaw!"
Danzo froze for a moment, confusion appearing on his face.
The smile at the corners of Orochimaru’s mouth gradually faded, and his brows unconsciously furrowed.
Evidently, even he had failed to notice any fatal flaw in Hiruko’s ritual.
Kagami did not keep them in suspense and explained directly.
"Fusing only the five basic chakra natures—Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, and Lightning—isn’t actually sufficient to ensure stability. Yin Release chakra and Yang Release chakra must also be incorporated. Only by bringing together all seven chakra natures can the success rate of the ritual truly be increased, allowing the various fused Kekkei Genkai to completely merge into a single whole.
"When I said that Hiruko survived the ritual through sheer luck, it was because among the five Kekkei Genkai he selected, the Uchiha clan member who possessed the Sharingan represented not only Fire-nature chakra, but also Yin-nature chakra. Meanwhile, the Uzumaki clan member who possessed Swift Release represented not only Wind-nature chakra, but also Yang-nature chakra.
"Although Hiruko only selected five Kekkei Genkai, he had actually stumbled into gathering all seven chakra natures by sheer coincidence. And that was the true key to his success!"
