Chapter 497: Brothers in Misfortune
Chapter 497: Chapter 497: Brothers in Misfortune
Inside the illusion of the Totsuka Blade.
Having fallen into the illusion, Kagami was still frozen in the posture of waving goodbye to Obito. The victorious smile curling at the corners of his lips hadn’t even had time to fade.
Meanwhile, Obito was glaring at Kagami, his body leaning slightly forward, still maintaining the posture from when he had activated his Mangekyo Sharingan dojutsu, Kamui.
One moment, the two of them had been scheming against each other and fighting to the death.
The next, they had fallen into an unfamiliar illusion together, becoming a pair of brothers in misfortune!
The scene was unbelievably awkward!
Kagami sheepishly lowered the hand he’d been waving with, utterly speechless.
He had used himself as bait and calculated everything into his plan. He had even guessed Obito’s thoughts almost perfectly. He’d thought that this time, he would finally be able to eliminate the massive problem that was Obito once and for all.
But never in his wildest dreams had he expected that, after being caught in Kamui’s attack, he himself would be dragged by Obito into the Totsuka Blade’s seal as well.
One wrong step, and the entire game was lost!
Obito was equally shocked.
He had already realized that he’d been set up yet again. Although he still didn’t know what kind of space this was, as an Uchiha possessing the Mangekyo Sharingan, he was naturally extremely sensitive to all kinds of genjutsu.
So he could tell that the place he was trapped in was definitely no ordinary illusionary space.
After sweeping his gaze around their surroundings, Obito snorted. "Hmph. So this is the method you people prepared to ambush me?"
Kagami curled his lips but didn’t answer.
Although he knew this was the illusionary world of the Totsuka Blade, this was also Kagami’s first time entering it. So in truth, he didn’t know much more about this place than Obito did.
Seeing that Kagami wasn’t answering, Obito sneered. "You think a genjutsu like this can trap me? Foolish!"
With that, Obito activated his Mangekyo Sharingan.
In an instant, the Mangekyo Sharingan in his eye sockets, shaped like three hooked blades forming a shuriken, slowly began to spin!
Kagami turned his gaze toward Obito as well, a complicated expression on his face.
Part of him hoped Obito could break free from the Totsuka Blade, while another part hoped that he couldn’t.
If Obito could break the Totsuka Blade’s seal, then Kagami would most likely be able to find a way out as well.
But if Obito really could break free from the Totsuka Blade, then Kagami had no idea what other method he could use to kill him. At the very least, until he completed his Kekkei Mora Project, he had no way of truly killing Obito.
After waiting for a while and seeing absolutely no change in their surroundings, Kagami clicked his tongue disdainfully.
"Tch!"
Hearing Kagami’s contemptuous click of the tongue, Obito’s face reddened. Forcing himself to save face, he declared, "This genjutsu has a few tricks to it, but so what? There’s nothing in the shinobi world capable of trapping me, Uchiha Madara!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Obito activated Kamui.
A distorted vortex immediately appeared around his body.
"He can still activate Kamui!?"
Kagami’s gaze sharpened as he stared fixedly at Obito.
However, although the distorted vortex continued to spin, it failed to pull Obito out of the Totsuka Blade’s illusionary world.
"How can this be!?"
This time, Obito finally panicked.
It was the first time he had ever encountered a situation where Kamui simply didn’t work.
Kagami withdrew his gaze and thought to himself, "As expected of the divine artifact, the Totsuka Blade!"
Although he didn’t know much about the Totsuka Blade, he knew that in the original timeline, Itachi had once used the Totsuka Blade to seal Nagato’s reanimated body.
After all, back then, Nagato’s reanimated body had relied on the abilities of the Rinnegan to fight three opponents at once, suppressing Naruto and Killer B—both of whom could be considered among the strongest shinobi in the world at the time—to the point where they could barely catch their breath.
The strength of his ocular power was certainly not much weaker than when he had been alive. Yet when faced with a single strike from Itachi’s Totsuka Blade, even Nagato, with the ocular power of the Rinnegan, had been completely incapable of resisting.
That alone was enough to prove that ocular power by itself was not enough to break free from the Totsuka Blade’s seal.
At this moment, Obito hurriedly asked Kagami, "Just what kind of illusion is this?"
Kagami replied indifferently, "Do you really think I’d tell you?"
Obito’s expression darkened. "There’s no point denying it. I’m sure you’ve sensed it too. You don’t actually intend to die here together with me, do you?"
The moment he fell into the Totsuka Blade’s illusionary world, Obito had vaguely sensed that something was wrong.
That was precisely why he hadn’t chosen to continue fighting Kagami and had instead prioritized trying to escape from the illusion.
His instincts were telling him that if he couldn’t escape from this place quickly, he might be trapped here for all eternity.
Kagami remained silent.
Naturally, he had no intention of dying together with Obito.
Obito might pose an enormous threat to him, but that threat was nowhere near enough for Kagami to sacrifice his own life just to eliminate him.
In truth, as long as Kagami could successfully complete his Kekkei Mora Project and attain the same Kekkei Mora as Otsutsuki Kaguya, he would have plenty of ways to deal with Obito when the time came.
But he wasn’t in any hurry to join forces with Obito to escape from the Totsuka Blade’s illusion.
That was because he still wasn’t sure whether Itachi had some other way to release him alone from the Totsuka Blade. After all, they had gone through no small amount of effort to finally seal Obito inside it.
Suddenly, waves of mist carrying an intensely rich aroma of alcohol began pouring into the surrounding space.
The instant they inhaled the alcoholic fragrance, both Kagami and Obito were struck by a wave of dizziness, as though even their minds were being numbed.
Obito anxiously shouted, "Damn it! What are you still hesitating for?!"
Just then, an ethereal voice seemed to come from every direction at once.
"Furin-senpai, I still haven’t figured out a way to release someone who’s been sealed, so I’ll need your cooperation in order to get you out!"
Kagami frowned. "How do you want me to cooperate?"
Obito immediately perked up his ears as well, listening with complete concentration.
"In a moment, I’ll use my ocular power to activate the sealing state again. You must seize that opportunity and find a way to break free from the inside! Also, whatever you do, don’t let yourself be deceived by the illusion. Once you succumb to it, there’ll be no way to escape ever again!"
The ethereal voice echoed once more throughout the Totsuka Blade’s illusionary world.
Kagami’s expression changed as he thought, "Damn it. So Itachi can’t get me out either..."
Obito immediately became fully alert, waiting for the opportunity to escape.
By now, he had already realized just how dangerous his situation was. He knew there would only be one chance to break free. If he missed it, everything would be over.
Kagami also stopped wasting time and waited for the opportunity Itachi had mentioned.
A moment later, a towering pillar of flames suddenly appeared within the Totsuka Blade’s illusionary world, piercing straight through the heavens!
There was no doubt that Itachi had once again activated the Totsuka Blade from the outside, placing it into its attacking state and opening a subtle connection between the inside and outside of the Totsuka Blade.
Kagami and Obito exchanged a glance.
They both understood.
The opportunity had arrived!
At that moment, Obito pushed his Mangekyo Sharingan with everything he had, driving his ocular power to its absolute limit.
And as Obito unleashed his ocular power, a crack finally appeared within the flames.
However, the crack was far too narrow.
There was simply no way for a person to pass through it.
"Damn it..."
Having already pushed himself to his absolute limit, Obito let out a furious roar of despair.
He understood that his ocular power alone wasn’t enough to open a gap large enough to escape through.
And inside this illusion, he was the only one who possessed ocular power.
But just then, another mysterious surge of ocular power poured into the crack.
In an instant, the gap within the flames widened considerably.
Tracing the source of that ocular power, Obito turned toward Kagami, his face filled with confusion.
"You...!?"
Kagami didn’t even bother acknowledging him.
With a flicker, he vanished straight through the gap...
