Chapter 491: Chapter 491: There Won’t Be a Third Time
The Konoha shinobi locked in fierce battle had all their attention focused on Obito in the sky.
Only Kurenai, who had been secretly keeping an eye on Kagami all this time, noticed that Kagami suddenly glanced up at the night sky. He froze for a moment, then immediately returned to normal.
"What did he see?"
Following Kagami’s gaze, Kurenai looked up in confusion, but all she saw was a black crow gradually disappearing into the dim night sky.
"A bird?"
Retracting her gaze, Kurenai immediately moved closer to Kagami. Without the slightest awkwardness, she asked him in a surprisingly familiar tone, "Hey, what do we do now?"
At this moment, Obito, with his Susanoo activated, was practically unstoppable.
Ordinary Konoha shinobi couldn’t harm him in the slightest. Even Jiraiya, one of the Three Sannin, could only barely pose a threat to him.
Meanwhile, nearly every attack Obito launched effortlessly claimed a life.
In just this short span of time, more than a dozen Konoha shinobi had already died miserably at his hands. Many of them had been killed by the Kamui Shuriken of Obito’s Susanoo, their deaths so gruesome that not even intact corpses remained behind.
The Kamui Shuriken wielded by Obito’s Susanoo inherently carried the effect of his Mangekyo Sharingan dojutsu, Kamui. Anything that came into contact with them would be torn out of the current space-time.
This was no longer an attack on the purely physical level, but one operating directly on the level of space-time.
In the original timeline, even Kaguya, who possessed the Kekkei Mora, had been unable to completely avoid the threat of the Kamui Shuriken used by Kakashi.
Seeing Kagami remain silent in thought, Kurenai anxiously urged, "Say something!"
Watching one Konoha shinobi after another die miserably at Obito’s hands filled Kurenai with anxiety.
She knew that, right now, the only person who could truly threaten Obito was probably Furin of the Kamigami.
Kagami, however, merely shook his head and said calmly,
"Ordinary methods can’t kill him.
"I’ve already tried twice."
With the Mangekyo Sharingan’s dojutsu, Kamui, combined with the Uchiha clan’s forbidden technique, Izanagi, as long as Obito himself didn’t do anything stupid or recklessly court death, there was practically no one who could kill him.
Even the measures Madara had planted in Obito’s heart were, in truth, laughable. They couldn’t truly restrain Obito at all.
It could be said that as long as Obito remained cautious enough, there was almost no one in the entire shinobi world who could reliably kill him in his current state.
Kagami had already tried twice.
And both times, he had pushed things almost as far as they could possibly go.
Yet he had still failed.
Kurenai stared at Kagami in astonishment. "Then are we just supposed to let him slaughter our Konoha shinobi?"
"Pfft—!"
Just as Kagami was about to answer, a metallic sweetness suddenly rose in his throat, and he spat out another mouthful of blood. His body began trembling slightly as well.
Kurenai hurriedly caught and supported him, asking with concern, "Are you all right? Is it still because of your previous injuries?"
Kagami waved his hand and said in a weak yet calm voice, "It’s dangerous here. You and your comrades shouldn’t stay any longer. Leave while you still can!"
Kagami didn’t want anything distracting him during the final battle.
That was why he wanted to send Team Seven away beforehand, so his subordinates wouldn’t suffer any unnecessary casualties.
"I’m not leaving!"
Kurenai’s bright eyes remained fixed firmly on Kagami.
For some reason, Furin’s personality—clearly gravely wounded, yet still composed and indifferent—fascinated her beyond measure.
Even she couldn’t say exactly what she was feeling.
Was it the natural admiration of the weak toward the strong?
The gratitude of someone who had been saved toward her savior?
Or perhaps...
some emotion that was far more difficult to put into words.
Kagami couldn’t be bothered to persuade her any further.
He needed to focus all his attention on dealing with the situation before him. His body was already hovering on the verge of collapse, leaving him with no energy to spare thinking about anything else.
Boom—!
Another deafening explosion rang out as countless kunai wrapped with explosive tags shot toward Obito in the sky, triggering a series of explosions that sent clouds of smoke billowing through the air!
However, when the smoke finally dispersed, Obito’s azure-blue Susanoo appeared before everyone once again—
completely unscathed.
"Damn it!"
"We can’t beat him at all..."
"He’s a demon!"
As the casualties continued to mount and one futile assault after another ended in failure, the fighting spirit of the surrounding Konoha shinobi was rapidly being worn away.
A sense of despair gradually began spreading among them.
At that moment, an older Konoha jonin stepped forward and shouted, "Don’t be afraid! Even if we have to wear him down little by little, we’ll exhaust him to death!"
The casualties before him weren’t enough to frighten a Konoha jonin who had personally experienced the Third Shinobi World War.
There had always been powerful shinobi in the shinobi world capable of single-handedly taking on entire armies.
There was no need to look far for examples. During the Third Shinobi World War alone, monsters like the Fourth Hokage and the Third Raikage had appeared—shinobi capable of holding off entire armies by themselves.
But even against such overwhelming individuals, an endless siege could still take its toll.
Even someone as powerful as the Fourth Hokage had to temporarily avoid the brunt of an overwhelming assault.
And even someone as ferocious as the Third Raikage could eventually be exhausted to death.
Hearing the Konoha jonin’s shout, Obito merely sneered from the sky.
A siege might work against someone else.
But against him?
It was meaningless.
With Kamui, he could choose the place and time of battle whenever he wished.
There was simply no way for them to pin him down.
After briefly resting his gaze on the heavily panting Kakashi, Obito shifted his attention toward Furin of the Kamigami in the distance.
Of everyone present on the battlefield...
the only person who truly made him wary was Furin.
Through his battle with the Konoha shinobi just now, Obito had confirmed that there was nothing wrong with the defensive power of his Susanoo.
That meant the reason his Susanoo had been instantly breached earlier was because Furin of the Kamigami possessed an extraordinarily powerful means of attack—
an attack that might be capable of completely ignoring Susanoo’s defenses.
Although such a thing was practically unheard of, after suffering at the hands of the Kamigami twice already, Obito secretly swore to himself,
"There won’t be a third time.
"Never!"
Just then, Kagami coughed up blood once again, and Obito caught the entire scene.
With the observational prowess of his Mangekyo Sharingan, he could naturally tell that Furin’s repeated coughing of blood wasn’t an act.
There was genuinely something seriously wrong with his body.
The perfect opportunity to wash away his humiliation was right in front of him.
After hesitating briefly, Obito decided to take the risk.
After all, he had transplanted a total of two three-tomoe Sharingan onto his back.
He had already consumed one earlier.
But he still had one left—
enough to activate Izanagi one more time.
Seeing Obito lock his gaze onto him, Kagami immediately guessed what he was thinking.
With a slight flick of his right hand, a bone blade extended from his palm, and he grasped it firmly.
But the bone blade in his hand had undergone an obvious change.
Previously, his bone blades had been pale white like ordinary bone, their razor-sharp edges gleaming with a cold, eerie light.
Now, however...
the bone blade was a dull gray.
Its color had grown much darker, and it no longer possessed the same razor-sharp appearance as before.
Instead, it looked even more unremarkable, almost as though it might snap apart at any moment.
Kurenai, standing beside him, keenly noticed the change in Kagami’s bone blade.
Her heart immediately sank.
"This is bad! He must be injured too badly... Even his bone blade has become brittle!"
