Chapter 240: Chapter 240: Can Any of You Fly?
Boom...
Boom...
Boom...
The tremendous explosions were so deafening that they made everyone’s eardrums ache. The earth trembled again and again, making the scene even more terrifying!
No one had expected the battle to reach a fever pitch right from the very beginning.
Faced with the two enormous Susanoo towering before them like gods, forget about intervening in the battle—even the spectators had to carefully retreat far into the distance just to watch.
Under the rampage of the two Susanoo, one massive rock formation after another within Birdsong Cliff was smashed to pieces.
Shattered stones flew through the air amid clouds of dust, accompanied by piercing whistles as they tore through the wind. They slammed into the ground and surrounding cliffs with an endless series of clattering impacts.
Flocks of birds were startled into the sky, circling overhead as they cried out in panic.
Hiding behind a massive boulder, Uchiha Hiiragi stared excitedly at the distant battle between the two Susanoo, his entire body trembling with exhilaration.
"So this is the true power of the Uchiha clan!"
Although he was unable to interfere in the battle before him and did not possess the terrifying power of Susanoo himself, the thought that these two godlike warriors were both members of the Uchiha clan who had awakened the Mangekyo Sharingan filled Uchiha Hiiragi with excitement, and an overwhelming sense of pride surged through his entire body.
The other two Uchiha jonin felt much the same as Hiiragi, a growing sense of superiority and honor welling up within them.
The other four Konoha ninja, however, were completely stunned. An ocular technique of the Mangekyo Sharingan like Susanoo had already surpassed their understanding of ninjutsu.
One of the Root ninja asked, "When will the reinforcements arrive?"
The Communications Team ninja replied, "The message has already been delivered to Lord Danzo and Clan Head Fugaku. They’re on their way here now!"
The Aburame jonin then asked Uchiha Hiiragi, "Can Shisui win?"
Uchiha Hiiragi looked somewhat awkward. "It’s still too early to tell!"
If the enemy had been anyone else, Hiiragi naturally would have had complete confidence in Shisui. But when the opponent was also an Uchiha who had awakened the Mangekyo Sharingan, even Hiiragi found it difficult to judge the outcome.
Another Uchiha jonin interjected, "Don’t worry. Even if Shisui can’t win, he can at least hold out until the Clan Head arrives!"
Uchiha Hiiragi nodded, then shifted his gaze toward the other member of Kamigami and said, "That guy wearing the gale-patterned mask doesn’t seem to have any intention of joining the fight, but we can’t let our guard down. Everyone in Kamigami is an elite!"
Hearing this, everyone immediately turned their attention toward the Kamigami member standing far away atop a towering rocky cliff.
The Kamigami member wearing the gale-patterned mask simply stood quietly atop the massive rock. There were no particularly intense chakra fluctuations coming from him, and he looked entirely like a spectator enjoying the show, making it difficult to figure out what he was thinking.
......
After receiving the report from the Communications Team ninja, Fugaku was startled and immediately turned around, rushing toward Birdsong Cliff.
"They’ve even brought out Susanoo? It seems I really did misunderstand Shisui. Damn it, just who is this Uchiha who joined Kamigami!? And was he really the one behind the Nine-Tails’ attack back then?"
While Fugaku led the Uchiha elites toward Birdsong Cliff, Danzo, who was stationed at the central command post, also received the report from within the area.
"Birdsong Cliff..." Danzo’s expression gradually darkened as he wondered aloud, "Why would Kamigami appear in a place like that? Could it be a trap?"
A Root ninja stepped forward and asked, "Lord Danzo, should we notify the other squads?"
After pondering for a moment, Danzo nodded.
"Notify the other squads. Surround Birdsong Cliff!"
......
On the battlefield at Birdsong Cliff.
Gradually, Kagami and Shisui fought their way deeper and deeper into the swamp.
The two Susanoo appeared to be locked in an incredibly fierce battle, but in reality, both Kagami and Shisui were exercising tremendous restraint. Most of their Susanoo’s destructive power was deliberately unleashed against the massive rock formations surrounding them, while actual direct clashes between the two Susanoo were surprisingly rare.
Kagami secretly ordered the Third Kazekage human puppet, who was temporarily posing as a member of Kamigami, to intercept the Konoha ninja accompanying Shisui. He then drew Shisui into a blind spot concealed from view by the surrounding massive rocks.
While pretending to attack, Shisui asked warily, "Just who are you?"
"Don’t worry, it’s me!"
Kagami quickly lifted his mask for a moment before immediately putting it back on.
When Shisui saw that the person beneath Homura’s mask really was Kagami—and that the eyes in his sockets were a pair of Mangekyo Sharingan with an intricate diamond-shaped pattern—he stared blankly at him.
"Senpai, how do you have the Mangekyo Sharingan?"
"It’s complicated. I can’t explain it all right now. I’ll tell you after we return to the village." After a brief pause, Kagami instructed, "For now, remember this: after I withdraw, tell everyone that Kamigami has set its sights on the Tailed Beasts of the major ninja villages!"
Shisui froze for a moment before asking, "Why?"
Kagami explained, "We made a mistake before. How could a secret group filled with powerful shinobi possibly have no goal or guiding purpose?"
"Mm, you’re right." Shisui nodded, then asked in confusion, "But why make the Tailed Beasts our target? The Jinchuriki of the major ninja villages are among the strongest shinobi in the entire ninja world, and they’re usually surrounded by numerous guards. If we declare the Tailed Beasts as our goal, won’t that make us seem a little too arrogant?"
Kagami smiled faintly.
"That’s fine. The more arrogant, the better!"
Besides making Kamigami seem more genuine, Kagami had another reason for declaring the Nine Tailed Beasts as Kamigami’s target—he wanted to make things difficult for Obito.
Once word spread that Kamigami was coveting the Tailed Beasts of the major ninja villages, those villages would inevitably strengthen the protection around their Jinchuriki.
When that happened, it would become much more difficult for Akatsuki to collect the Tailed Beasts.
Although Shisui didn’t entirely understand Kagami’s decision, he didn’t dwell on it too much. After all, it was only a goal in name.
Instead, he turned his attention toward the Third Kazekage human puppet, who had intercepted the Konoha ninja accompanying him, and asked, "Senpai, who is he? Don’t tell me he’s a new member of Kamigami?"
Kagami chuckled. "You could say that. You’ve met him before."
Hearing this, Shisui quickly realized who he meant.
"He... it wouldn’t happen to be your Third Kazekage puppet, would it?"
Kagami nodded. "That’s right!"
The straightforward Shisui was momentarily speechless.
There were clearly only two actual living people in Kamigami, yet somehow they now had four members and four different codenames. He genuinely didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
Composing himself, Shisui hurriedly said, "Senpai, you should leave quickly! The village’s suppression force is extremely powerful this time. They’ve even mobilized the Sensor and Sealing Teams. If you don’t leave now, I’m afraid you won’t be able to escape!"
Kagami curled his lips dismissively.
"Oh? Can any of them fly?"
