Chapter 129: Chapter 129: The Price of Overdrawing Ocular Power

"’Otenshu’ can distort all the damage inflicted on the user and push it to a certain point in time, while ’Tokiya’ can reverse that point in time, completely erasing the accumulated damage on the temporal level. Put these two abilities together, and they’re practically a perfect match!"

After marveling inwardly at the combination, Hyuga Kagami began considering how to counter Uchiha Shinichi’s Mangekyō Sharingan abilities.

There was no doubt about it—the method he had used earlier was correct.

As long as he inflicted damage severe enough that even Shinichi’s ’Otenshu’ struggled to withstand it, he could accelerate the depletion of ’Otenshu’ remaining duration and rapidly break through the technique.

At that thought, however, Kagami became somewhat puzzled. He asked, "If you already knew blood loss couldn’t be reversed, why didn’t you tie the bandages beforehand?"

Still clutching his right eye, Uchiha Shinichi answered haltingly, "The damage... erupted too suddenly this time. My ’Otenshu’ was disrupted by your ninjutsu!"

Kagami thought to himself, "So it was because of the Golden Wheel Reincarnation Explosion."

"AAARGH!"

Suddenly, Uchiha Shinichi screamed in agony.

Hyuga Kagami asked, "What’s wrong?"

"My eyes... My eyes hurt so much!"

Uchiha Shinichi clutched his eyes and rolled across the ground in agony, wailing, "How could this happen!? Why do my eyes hurt so badly!?"

Something immediately occurred to Kagami, and he said calmly, "Bear with it. It should pass after a while."

Quite some time passed before Shinichi gradually recovered. Still weak, he asked, "Do you know what’s happening? Why did my eyes suddenly start hurting so badly?"

Kagami replied, "The Mangekyō Sharingan isn’t actually a stable state. The more frequently you use it, the faster you’ll go blind!"

Shinichi’s face changed drastically.

"What!?"

"I thought you already knew all this." After a brief pause, Kagami continued, "So if you don’t want to become blind, use your Mangekyō Sharingan’s ocular abilities as little as possible."

"Is there any way to solve it?"

Kagami nodded. "As far as I know, there are two methods. One is to transplant the Mangekyō Sharingan of a blood relative and evolve your Mangekyō Sharingan into the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan. The other is to transplant the First Hokage’s cells, giving your body some of the characteristics of a Sage Body and reducing the burden caused by the Mangekyō Sharingan."

Kagami didn’t conceal anything and directly told Uchiha Shinichi everything he knew.

After all, once Shinichi entered the Akatsuki, there was a good chance he would learn this information from Obito anyway.

Rather than letting Obito be the one to tell him, Kagami might as well explain it first so Shinichi would know exactly what he was dealing with.

Uchiha Shinichi’s expression dimmed. "My parents both died in the Third Shinobi World War. I don’t have any blood relatives left. And even if I did, I wouldn’t take their eyes!"

Kagami smiled. "Don’t worry. As long as you devote yourself wholeheartedly to working for me, I’ll find a way to solve this problem for you."

Shinichi stared blankly at Kagami. Only after a long while did he finally say, "If it’s you... I believe you!"

Shinichi had long since been thoroughly convinced of Kagami’s strength.

If there truly was someone capable of resurrecting a person, then as far as he was concerned, aside from Hyuga Kagami, there probably wasn’t anyone else in the entire shinobi world who could accomplish such a thing.

While organizing his thoughts, Kagami said, "The organization I want you to infiltrate is called ’Akatsuki.’ Once you’re inside, don’t draw too much attention to yourself. There are many powerful shinobi in that organization. Orochimaru, one of the Three Sannin, is one of its members."

Shinichi was somewhat surprised. "Someone as powerful as Orochimaru actually joined an organization that can’t even show its face in public?"

Like many orthodox Konoha shinobi, Uchiha Shinichi only truly regarded the Five Great Shinobi Villages as significant powers. In his eyes, every other organization was simply beneath notice.

Kagami said solemnly, "That organization’s strength is no weaker than the village’s. I don’t want you joining on your first day only to have someone gouge out your eyes."

Seeing how serious Kagami was, Shinichi could only suppress his impatience and nod.

"Their leader is a shinobi who possesses the ’Rinnegan.’"

After a brief pause, Kagami continued, "The Rinnegan is the legendary eye of the Sage of Six Paths, so whatever you do, don’t provoke him."

"That bastard who plotted against me... he isn’t the leader of that organization?"

Kagami didn’t answer directly. Instead, he smiled. "His identity is something you’ll have to find a way to uncover yourself."

Uchiha Shinichi nodded. "I understand."

Glancing at Shinichi, Kagami probed, "If he told you that he could help you resurrect Yui, what would you do?"

Shinichi replied coldly, "I wouldn’t believe a single word he said."

Kagami pressed further. "What if he really could do it?"

Shinichi froze for a moment before answering, "I know what you’re worried about. Since I’ve already given you my word, I won’t betray you. As long as you really can resurrect Yui, then no matter what kind of offer he makes me, I won’t be tempted!"

Kagami said nothing and simply stared quietly at Uchiha Shinichi.

Shinichi curled his lips. "Stop looking at me like that. I’m not an idiot. From the moment he plotted against Yui, there was no longer any room for reconciliation between us. Besides, even if he did help me resurrect Yui, he’d definitely tamper with her somehow. How could I possibly allow him to violate Yui again? He can forget about it!"

Kagami nodded in satisfaction, then asked, "Tell me. Who is the Kumogakure spy hiding inside the village?"

Shinichi shook his head. "I’ve never seen his real face. He contacted me through messenger beasts."

Kagami’s expression darkened upon hearing this.

Although he had already guessed that the Kumogakure spy lurking within the village would never reveal their true identity to Uchiha Shinichi, Kagami still couldn’t help feeling somewhat disappointed upon receiving confirmation.

With a sigh, Kagami asked another question. "Where did you bury Yui’s body?"

"What do you want to know that for?"

Shinichi immediately became wary. But then he remembered that Kagami had promised to help him resurrect Yui, and he answered somewhat sheepishly, "In a cave downstream of the Naka River. No one knows about it except me."

Kagami said calmly, "Tell me the exact location."

Shinichi seemed to realize something.

"You’re worried that...?"

"I already warned you not to underestimate Akatsuki’s methods." After a brief pause, Kagami continued, "If they find Yui’s body before we do, then even I won’t be able to do anything."

With Yui’s resurrection at stake, Shinichi didn’t dare be careless. He hurriedly told Kagami the cave’s exact location and repeatedly warned him, "Whatever you do, don’t let Yui’s body fall into their hands!"
