Ren reached the estate just before sunrise. Kakuzu had sent a messenger hawk ahead, so Tsunade was already waiting at the gate.

She took the reinforced medical case from Ren, checked that the inner container was intact, and headed straight for the hospital.

Pakura went with the estate guards to secure the captured men. Kakuzu carried the recovered weapons toward the storage wing, already deciding what could be sold.

Ren entered the main house alone. His right eye throbbed, and blood from the cut along his ribs had started soaking through his shirt.

Kushina was waiting in the kitchen, sitting at the island in a loose night robe with her red hair unbound. The tea in front of her had already gone cold.

"Naruto woke me," Kushina said before Ren could ask.

Ren looked at the untouched tea but said nothing.

Then Kushina noticed the blood soaking through the side of his shirt.

She stood immediately and went to the sink, pulling a clean towel and a medical kit from the lower cabinet.

"Sit," she ordered.

"It’s a scratch," Ren said, pouring himself a glass of water.

"Sit before I make it worse," Kushina threatened, pointing at the stool.

Ren sat.

He unbuttoned his shirt and slipped it off his shoulders, dropping the ruined fabric onto the counter. Kushina stepped closer and wiped the dried blood from the cut along his ribs. Once it was clean, she wound a bandage around his chest.

Her eyes paused on the older scars across his back and shoulders.

Ren caught her looking in the dark reflection of the window.

"Those aren’t from tonight," he said quietly.

Kushina didn’t look up. She kept her focus strictly on the fresh cut, pulling the bandage a little tighter than necessary.

Ren winced.

"Hold still," she muttered.

When she finished, her attention shifted to the scorched Uzumaki tag around his wrist. She unfastened it and placed it beside the medical kit.

Ren let out a slow breath as the sting from the antiseptic began to fade.

Kushina looked at his damaged eye. "Did you use it?"

"Almost," Ren hesitated. "A trap went off. I almost reacted."

"But you stopped?"

"I stopped," Ren confirmed.

Kushina stared at the bandage.

"I’ve been here since it was dark," she said. "Every time I heard something outside, I thought it was the gate."

Ren looked at the cold tea. "Naruto didn’t wake you."

Her grip tightened around the towel.

"No."

Neither of them spoke after that.

After a bath and a few hours of sleep, Ren joined the others in the estate dining room. Maps, reports, and ledgers covered the table.

Kakuzu, Pakura, Fugaku, Itachi, Kurenai, and Kushina were already there. Tsunade arrived halfway through, confirmed that the recovered compound was usable, reminded Ren that the Mangekyō ban still stood, and left before anyone could ask another question.

Kurenai opened the Academy roster.

"Enrollment is up," Kurenai said. "The inspection helped more than it hurt. Staff training started this morning."

Itachi placed the safety folder on the table. "The new rules are finished."

Ren nodded. "Danzo?"

Kakuzu opened another ledger. "We can connect the Academy seal and the stolen case to the same man. We cannot connect him to Danzo."

"And you won’t," Fugaku said. "Danzo destroys anything that leads back to him."

Kakuzu turned a page. "He also refuses to leave assets available for collection."

He slid a folded complaint across the table.

"Jiraiya wants half of his visitor deposit returned."

"Why did you keep it?" Ren asked.

Kakuzu slid a folded complaint across the table.

"Jiraiya wants his visitor deposit returned."

"Then return it," Ren said.

Kakuzu opened the attached calculation. "After the inspection fee, weapons-storage fee, and late-arrival charge, he owes us twelve ryo."

Ren pushed the complaint back. "Send him the invoice."

Pakura placed a scorched metal plate in the center of the table.

"What about this?" she asked.

Ren turned the plate so Fugaku could see the faded maker’s mark.

"Tsunade showed it to Orochimaru before she came here. He recognized the company. It supplied several old research sites before disappearing."

Fugaku studied the mark. "Danzo’s sites?"

"At least one," Ren said. "But the company also sent shipments east, outside Konoha’s usual routes."

Kurenai looked at the map. "So Danzo wasn’t their only customer."

"No." Ren tapped the eastern trade road. "Someone is moving bloodline samples, copied seals, and research equipment through Fire Country."

Kakuzu closed the ledger. "Supplier or buyer?"

"We find one," Ren said, "and they lead us to the other."

That evening, Kushina crossed back to the main house.

Naruto was asleep in her nursery, with the estate’s night nurse sitting in the adjoining room. A monitoring seal glowed faintly beside the crib, linked to the tag around Kushina’s wrist.

She found Ren in his study, standing near the window, looking over a map of the eastern Fire Country trade routes.

Kushina walked to the desk and placed the scorched sensory tag on the map. The damaged edge had been trimmed away, and the seal had been redrawn.

Ren picked it up, tracing his thumb over the fresh ink. "You didn’t have to fix this."

"The ink was still good," Kushina said simply.

She walked closer, stopping in front of him.

Ren did not step back.

Kushina reached out, her fingers moving carefully along his temple before resting lightly against his cheek, just beside his clouded eye.

Ren watched her, his posture going completely still. "What are you doing?"

Kushina looked up into his dark eyes, her own expression caught somewhere between exhaustion and something much heavier.

"I don’t know," she whispered.

Then she kissed him.

Her lips barely touched his at first. Ren remained still.

Kushina did not pull away. She kissed him again, more firmly this time.

Ren’s hand settled at her waist, and he kissed her back. Kushina gripped the front of his shirt and moved closer.

The kiss deepened for several seconds.

Then Kushina pulled away.

She touched her lips, her breathing uneven. "I can’t."

Ren let his hand fall from her waist. "Okay."

She stared at him, "You’re not going to say anything?"

Ren didn’t have a perfect answer for her, and he wasn’t going to pretend he did.

"You asked me to stop, Kushina."

She looked away, her shoulders rising with a shaky breath. "Minato..."

She could not finish.

Ren gave her a moment, letting the silence absorb the broken sentence. "You don’t have to explain it tonight."

He stepped away from the door, leaving the path open.

Kushina walked out without looking back.

When Kushina returned to the nursery next door, the small photograph of Minato still rested on the table beside the crib.

Kushina sat in the rocking chair and looked at Minato’s photograph.

Her fingers rose to her lips.

The kiss had felt good. That was the part she could not forgive herself for yet.

"I’m sorry," she whispered.

Across the courtyard, the light in Ren’s study was still on. Kushina turned the chair away from the window.

She did not go back.

She did not sleep.
