Naruto: The Shameless Uchiha Tycoon

Chapter 79: Unauthorized Property Damage

  • Next Chapter

Ren descended the stone steps into the underground vault, the heavy steel door sealing shut behind him.

The underground office was humming with quiet efficiency. Pakura sat on one of the leather sofas, casually running a whetstone down the edge of a kunai, while Kakuzu stood over the central war table, surrounded by towering stacks of reconstruction ledgers.

Ren walked to the table and poured himself a glass of water.

"Danzo is moving on the eastern lumber yards," Ren said.

Kakuzu did not look up. He simply closed the ledger he was currently reading and reached for a different, thicker binder.

"Finally," Kakuzu said.

Ren took a sip of his water. "You sound pleased."

"Sabotage claims have better margins than standard freight," Kakuzu replied, flipping to a blank invoice page. "What are the details?"

"He is using fake companies," Ren explained, setting his glass down. "The target is the outer lumber yards near the eastern border. The goal is to destroy the shipments, blame it on bandit raids, and force the village to seize my remaining lumber assets under the pretense of national security logistics."

Pakura stopped sharpening her kunai. "That is a shinobi tactic. Create a crisis to justify a deployment."

"It is," Ren agreed. "Biwako gave me the tip. Danzo wants to choke our civilian supply lines without leaving his fingerprints on the arson."

Kakuzu picked up a pen. "Then we should let him succeed incorrectly."

By dusk, the eastern lumber yard was a hive of quiet, heavily orchestrated activity.

Under Kakuzu’s direct supervision, Ren’s logistics teams were rapidly clearing out every single piece of premium timber, load-bearing oak, and weather-treated pine. In their place, pulley rigs, cargo seals, and reinforced loading carts were dropping off absolute garbage.

Rotting wood. Termite-eaten beams. Failed-cut timber. Low-grade decoy cargo that had been sitting in the reject piles for months.

They stacked the worthless wood high, slapping official shipping markers, company tags, and freshly forged manifests onto the crates to make it look like a highly valuable, pending shipment for the hospital reconstruction. Mixed into the piles of rotting wood were small, specially marked tags containing highly concentrated, customized explosive seals.

Kakuzu stood at the edge of the yard, his arms crossed over his chest, glaring at a stack of moldy pine.

"This wood is worthless," Kakuzu stated.

Ren stood beside him, checking his pocket watch. "Exactly."

Kakuzu looked at him, his green eyes narrowing. "Then why does watching it burn still annoy me?"

"Because you are a professional, Kakuzu," Ren said, turning toward the exit. "Leave a light perimeter guard. Make it look authentic. I want them to think they walked right past our security."

Three hours past midnight, the Root agents arrived.

They moved like ghosts, slipping past the deliberately porous perimeter patrols and dropping silently into the heart of the lumber yard. There were four of them, wearing blank porcelain masks and dark cloaks, moving with the arrogant confidence of apex predators entering a civilian pen.

They observed the towering stacks of lumber, the sealed crates, and the neatly attached company tags.

"The civilian relies too much on contracts," one Root agent whispered, drawing a stack of explosive tags.

"Burn the yard," the squad leader ordered. "Leave bandit markings near the gates. The official response will handle the rest."

They moved in unison, slapping explosive tags against the base of the largest timber stacks. They formed the necessary hand seals and shunshined to the perimeter fence to watch the destruction.

Kai.

The yard erupted.

But it wasn’t a normal explosion. Instead of a massive, roaring inferno of fire and splintering wood, the customized invoice seals triggered a violent, localized chain reaction.

BANG.

Thick, heavy clouds of blinding white smoke blasted outward, instantly covering the entire yard. Before the Root agents could react, a secondary wave of seals detonated directly beneath them.

It wasn’t shrapnel. It was liquid.

Bright, highly concentrated red accounting ink exploded outward like a geyser, splashing violently over their dark cloaks, their blank masks, and their boots. The chakra-infused ink instantly bonded to the fabric, practically glowing in the moonlight.

Stamped boldly across the chest of the squad leader’s ruined cloak in perfect, unremovable red block letters were the words:

UNAUTHORIZED PROPERTY DAMAGE — BILLABLE

One of the storage sheds deliberately collapsed in the background for dramatic effect, sending up another cloud of dust.

The Root agents froze, looking down at themselves in sheer confusion. They were completely painted in corporate liability.

A shadow stepped out from behind the smoking debris of a termite-eaten log.

Kakuzu didn’t bother using stealth. He walked out into the open, a sealed invoice scroll held casually in his right hand. He looked at the ink-stained assassins with absolute, towering disdain.

He tossed the scroll. It landed directly at the squad leader’s feet.

"Delivery confirmation required," Kakuzu said.

The Root agent on the left didn’t hesitate. Conditioned for lethal response, he drew his tantō and lunged, bringing the glowing blade down in a vicious arc aimed straight at Kakuzu’s neck.

Clang.

The blade struck Kakuzu’s skin and violently deflected, the Root agent’s wrist nearly shattering from the recoil of hitting the Earth Spear technique.

Kakuzu didn’t even flinch. He looked down at the agent holding his sprained wrist.

"Assaulting the claims adjuster increases the fee," Kakuzu noted flatly.

He lashed out with a single, brutal kick, sending the agent crashing through a wooden fence. Kakuzu didn’t pursue. He simply adjusted his collar and looked at the remaining three.

That was not mercy. Mercy did not appear anywhere in his contract.

Dead men were simply harder to invoice.

He adjusted his collar and looked at the remaining three ink-stained agents.

"Take the scroll to your employer," Kakuzu ordered. "And keep the receipt."

Deep underground, the air in Danzo Shimura’s private office was suffocatingly tense.

Danzo sat behind his desk, his single visible eye fixed in a cold, murderous glare. Standing before him was the Root squad leader. His porcelain mask was missing, his arm was in a sling, and he was completely covered from head to toe in bright, humiliating red accounting ink.

Danzo unrolled the scroll the agent had brought back.

It wasn’t a declaration of war. It wasn’t a threat.

It was an itemized invoice.

Danzo’s eye twitched as he read the meticulously formatted categories:

Unauthorized demolition

Attempted arson

False-flag bandit impersonation

Disruption of civilian reconstruction supply

Loss of decoy inventory

Emergency labor surcharge

Emotional distress

Premium inconvenience charge

Late-night administrative processing

Kakuzu had thoughtfully calculated a 25% hazard markup at the bottom. The total sum was astronomical.

Danzo gripped the edges of the scroll, the parchment crinkling under his tightening fingers. Ren Uchiha had not merely survived the attack. He had expected it, baited it, and converted a covert military strike into legal and economic ammunition.

"Dissolve the shell company," Danzo ordered sharply. "Burn the ledgers. Sever all ties to the contractor names we used for this operation."

A second Root agent, this one clean and standing near the door, bowed his head.

"Lord Danzo... we cannot," the agent reported quietly. "The invoice has already been filed with the Daimyo’s commercial court."

Danzo froze.

The silence in the underground office was absolute. If he dissolved the company now, he would trigger an automatic commercial audit from the Capital. He couldn’t erase the shell company without exposing the Foundation’s financial network to the Daimyo’s tax collectors.

He was legally trapped.

The next morning, the sun was shining brightly over Konoha’s bustling commercial district.

Ren stood at a hastily assembled podium in front of a massive, perfectly intact shipment of premium lumber. A crowd of civilians, merchants, guild clerks, and newspaper men had gathered, murmuring anxiously about the rumors of a fire the night before.

Ren adjusted the microphone, his corporate smile radiant and reassuring.

"It is true that one of our minor holding yards was attacked last night by unknown criminal elements," Ren announced smoothly, his voice echoing over the crowd. "However, thanks to our robust corporate security and redundant logistics, I can assure you that all reconstruction shipments will continue entirely uninterrupted."

A wave of visible relief washed over the civilians. A few people clapped.

"Konoha’s civilians will not suffer," Ren continued, his dark eyes briefly cutting toward the Hokage Monument, "simply because certain unnamed parties have poor manners and worse accounting."

The crowd cheered. The supplies were safe. The Uchiha tycoon was delivering on his promises.

In the back of the crowd, several village elders watched the press conference with pale faces. Ren wasn’t just surviving the village’s political games; he was actively making himself look like the only reliable adult in the room.

Off to the side of the podium, Kakuzu stepped out of the shadows. He quietly handed Ren a freshly updated damages total on a small clipboard.

Ren kept his polite smile fixed for the cameras as he glanced down at the paper.

He blinked.

"You charged emotional distress?" Ren murmured, keeping his voice low enough that the microphone wouldn’t pick it up.

"Too low," Kakuzu replied, staring deadpan at the cheering crowd. "I was emotionally distressed."

Deep beneath the village, Danzo stared at the invoice on his desk in absolute silence.

For the first time since the Nine-Tails attack, Danzo truly understood the scope of the problem. Ren Uchiha did not merely defend his assets. He didn’t fight like a shinobi.

He monetized being attacked.

Danzo’s eye tracked slowly down to the final total line at the bottom of the scroll. The number had more zeros than the operation’s entire black budget.

Payment due within seven business days. Late fees apply.
