The title echoed like a divine sentence in the ears of every shinobi present on the battlefield.
The immense blast generated by the direct impact between the two forces continued to ring through the minds of everyone left standing. The brutal collision between the Shinra Tensei, fueled by the full cosmic fury of the Rinnegan, and the devastating Annihilating Light, unleashed by Daigo from his crystal eye, had left an unrecognizable landscape.
The sandstone buildings that had resisted the harsh desert winds for generations, alongside the complex military installations of Suna, now lay reduced to a shapeless mass of rubble, deep fissures, and acres of pulverized crystal.
On the elevated periphery of the disaster zone, standing on the ledge of a half-demolished structure threatening to collapse at any second, the fierce individual duel fought moments earlier between the Fourth Raikage, A, and the Fourth Hokage, Minato Namikaze, had come to a sudden halt.
Neither of the two Kages maintained their previous battle stance. Surrounded by the erratic crackle of their combat auras, both men stood motionless like statues erected over the ruins, staring wide-eyed at the overwhelming destruction spreading out beneath their feet.
"Looks like that Pain guy took care of the Kazekage..." A broke the silence, clenching his fists so hard that his right knuckles cracked loudly. He crossed his arms over his muscular chest and furrowed his brow heavily, his sharp eyes scanning zone zero for any sign of energy or life. "Though it has to be said, both techniques those guys used were only this powerful because they fought in their own village rather than ours."
Minato Namikaze did not answer the Raikage's blunt assessment right away. The Hokage of the Leaf adjusted his grip on his iconic three-pronged kunai, feeling the heavy weight of uncertainty in the air.
His sharp, analytical blue eyes remained locked on a massive pile of sandstone blocks and shattered pillars near the epicenter of the blast. Minato knew Daigo's combat level all too well; he had seen him operate on the battlefield, understood the monstrous flexibility of his crystal element now reinforced with Senjutsu, and above all, comprehended with absolute clarity that a figure as methodical and terrifying as the Kazekage would not fall so easily into the jaws of death.
A low, deep, stony crunch suddenly echoed from the depths of the mountain of debris.
Blocks of stone weighing hundreds of pounds were thrown violently aside, rolling down the slope of sand. From inside the collapsed structure, a figure emerged slowly, step by step, carving a path through the dense gray smoke. The scene was staggering.
Blood gushed copiously from the empty socket of his right eye, which had been completely destroyed by the massive energy overload, pouring relentlessly down the side of his face. The crimson stream ran down his cheek, marked his neck, and trickled over his bare torso, fully staining his long gray hair, which hung wild, matted, and soaked in a bright red hue.
Daigo raised his right hand heavily. With the back of his sweat- and sand-drenched knuckles, he wiped his face roughly, smearing more blood across his cheekbone, but managing to clear the vision of his remaining amber-yellow eye, which still held the slitted pupil of Sage Mode.
Barely ten meters away, the inert, torn, and battered body of Pain remained standing on the cracked rock. His condition was equally deplorable. The iconic black Akatsuki cloak with red clouds was in tatters, revealing a cracked, soot-covered puppet torso, while the thick black chakra receivers embedded in his shoulders and arms flickered erratically after taking the full density of the Annihilating Light.
Daigo held Pain's hollow gaze for a long, tense moment. Despite the unbearable pain throbbing through the left side of his skull, the Kazekage let out a dry, contemptuous huff.
"Tell me something... Why do you think you should give me a title when I haven't even lost?" Daigo asked. His voice, raspy, low, and worn out from the exertion, cut through the dead silence that enveloped the village after the storm with chilling clarity.
Pain—or rather Nagato, controlling the vessel from afar through the receiver network—stared back from a distance with the characteristic, unreadable coldness of the Rinnegan. Pain remained rigid, offering no words, no movement, and no reaction to the direct question from the Sand's leader.
Daigo, far from getting annoyed at the corpse's lack of response, simply let out a low, raspy laugh filled with bloody irony.
"Well... it doesn't really matter. I'll take the title. Honestly, I like how it sounds a lot better than the 'Crystal Demon'," Daigo continued, sweeping his palm across his forehead to push his stained hair back with a swift motion.
"But looking at all the damage you've caused to my village... it's time to end this once and for all."
In that exact instant, Daigo's sensory abilities warned him of a bitter physical reality: the fragile balance of Senjutsu was beginning to waver within his chakra pathway system. The "melody" of natural energy he had been tuning into throughout the battle was about to fade entirely, and with it, his hyper-regeneration and immense strength. There was no time to hesitate or second-guess his attack.
In an imperceptible flash, Daigo vanished from his position in a blur of pure, devastating speed.
Nagato, reacting desperately from his distant hideout through the shared vision of the Rinnegan, tried to force Yahiko's battered body into an emergency maneuver.
"Shinra Tensei!" Pain roared mentally with every last bit of strength remaining in his worn-out system, attempting to push the Sand monster away.
However, the puppet's inanimate body was far too damaged from enduring the previous clash against the Annihilating Light. The internal chakra network failed to transmit the command in time to channel the repulsive force.
Daigo reappeared directly behind Pain. Channeling the last powerful remnant of natural energy into his right fist, the Kage delivered a strike of raw, crushing power straight into the receiver's spine.
The impact was so massive and violent that the entire structure of skin, bone, flesh, and receivers of the Tendō Path shattered instantly. Yahiko's body burst open in a fierce kinetic shockwave, scattering his remains, the torn fabric of his cloak, and the black iron rods in all directions across the sand. Akatsuki's primary puppet—the central body of Nagato's paths—had been ruthlessly obliterated, reduced to useless scrap.
With the main threat decisively eliminated, the flow of Senjutsu vanished completely from Daigo's body. The sharp green markings of Sage Mode faded from his bloody face, and his single healthy eye gradually settled back to its normal amber shade.
The sudden loss of natural energy, combined with the extreme exhaustion from hours of relentless combat and the searing pain in his empty right eye socket, forced Daigo heavily onto his knees against the hard earth. His chest heaved frantically as he tried to focus his vision and remain conscious.
However, he was not alone for long in that desolate landscape.
In a simultaneous flash of tactical movement, four high-level figures landed around him in a perfectly coordinated formation, creating an impenetrable protective circle.
Two of them dropped down beside him immediately: Pakura and Karinna Uzumaki. The other two, Sasori and Rasa, stood guard on either side, their puppet arts and gold dust ready to eradicate any secondary threat.
Karinna, taking in Daigo's critical condition—the bleeding eye socket continuously pouring crimson and the deep wounds tearing across much of his bare torso—immediately extended her hands, casting a bright green medical chakra. However, as her sensory perception picked up the severe internal damage, the burnt chakra pathways caused by the overload of his own crystal jutsu, and the agonizingly slow pace of conventional medical ninjutsu, the young woman stopped cold.
She shook her head firmly, completely discarding standard healing as far too slow for this emergency.
Without a second thought and with iron resolve in her eyes, Karinna pulled up her tactical sleeve and placed her bare forearm directly over Daigo's bloody mouth.
Daigo, keeping his head low and barely hanging onto consciousness through the blinding pain, turned his face slightly away, refusing to bite her.
"I... I promised you solemnly that I would never force you to do this..." he muttered in a faint, raspy, choked voice.
Karinna nodded softly, a warm, serene, and deeply sincere smile gracing her lips. Looking down at the man who had always been an imposing presence, the young redhead recalled everything good that had happened in her life since she first set foot in Sunagakure.
Since her arrival, Daigo had always treated her with absolute respect, shielded her from those who saw her merely as a tool, given her a proper home, and never once pushed or coerced her into using her innate healing bite like some military commodity. Because of that safety, she had even been able to build a life, finding a husband and raising a beautiful daughter.
"You're not forcing me at all," Karinna said gently, her voice carrying unwavering resolve. "If it's to save you, I don't care in the slightest."
Applying a little pressure, Karinna firmly pressed her forearm against Daigo's clenched lips, gently forcing him to bite down.
The moment Daigo's teeth pierced her soft skin, the massive, dense vital chakra and endless energy reserves of the Uzumaki lineage surged like a warm, invigorating current through the Kazekage's circulatory system.
The effect was nearly instantaneous. The torn skin on his torso began closing before their eyes, the heavy bleeding from his empty eye socket halted as the damaged blood vessels cauterized and repaired, and his physical strength returned substantially to his exhausted muscles. It wasn't a miraculous cure that could regenerate his lost eye or erase the overwhelming mental fatigue weighing on his mind, but it granted him more than enough vitality to stand once more.
Daigo gently released Karinna's arm, where the bite marks left behind quickly began healing through her own Uzumaki regeneration factor, and looked her straight in the eye.
"Thank you, Karinna. Truly," he said with profound sincerity. The young redhead simply nodded, a small, satisfied smile touching her face.
Pakura immediately stepped in, offering her firm shoulder as tactical support to help Daigo stand fully erect on the cracked ground. With his remaining eye's vision much clearer and his strength restored enough to hold himself high, Daigo surveyed his surroundings, taking in the grim sight of Sunagakure—severely damaged at its core, yet victorious on the battlefield.
In that precise moment, Minato Namikaze and the Fourth Raikage A appeared, landing a few meters away, flanked immediately by their respective honor guards dropping in from the upper rooftops.
Daigo, resting lightly on Pakura's shoulder but keeping a firm posture, his head held high and an imposing presence, locked his single eye on the two powerful foreign Kages.
"And you two? What do you plan to do now?" he asked in a neutral tone, carefully reading their body language for any sign of hostility or political opportunism.
Both Minato and the Raikage A looked on in silence at the trail of destruction covering the village, the scattered remnants of Akatsuki's puppet on the sand, and the battered yet formidable figure of Daigo, who, despite his injuries and the loss of an eye, still radiated a dangerous authority.
"I don't care much about what happened here," the Raikage A answered with evident indifference, adjusting his heavy white cloak over his shoulders as he deactivated the rest of his lightning armor. "Our presence has nothing to do with this disaster, your internal village problems, or your enemies."
Minato Namikaze took a step forward, giving a respectful nod toward the Sand's leader. "I fully agree with the Raikage. We are withdrawing immediately along with our shinobi and the youths who participated in the exams."
Without wasting time on unnecessary dialogue, negotiations, or starting a pointless conflict on enemy soil against a monster who had just demonstrated absurd power, both Kages and their guards made a swift exit. They launched themselves into high-speed blurs, vanishing among the ruins and leaving Sunagakure's territory behind.
Left alone with his inner circle—Pakura, Karinna, Sasori, and Rasa—Daigo turned a tired but commanding gaze toward his two most experienced and cunning commanders.
"Sasori, Rasa... take care of everything," Daigo ordered in a firm, sharp tone that left no room for debate. "Securing the perimeter and clearing the village starts now."
Both men gave a solemn nod, ready to execute direct orders for defensive reorganization and rescue operations, as the great village of Sunagakure slowly began to rise from the ashes and ruins.
