Chapter 86: Jiraiya Returns, the Great Toad Sage’s New Prophecy, the Child of Destruction?

  • Next Chapter

In a secret place rarely visited by outsiders somewhere in the shinobi world.

One of the legendary Three Great Sage Regions—Mount Myoboku!

"Great Elder Fukasaku, what exactly is going on? I’m in a hurry to get back to the village."

Jiraiya spoke anxiously.

During this period, he had been traveling throughout the shinobi world while searching for the Child of Prophecy.

Of course... gathering material for his writing was also an essential part of his travels.

However.

After hearing about the tremendous upheaval that had occurred in Konoha and noticing unusual movements from both the Hidden Cloud and Hidden Stone Villages, Jiraiya immediately began making his way back to Konoha.

Yet, while he was on the way, he was suddenly reverse-summoned to Mount Myoboku.

"It’s the Great Toad Sage who wants to see you."

The Sage Toad Fukasaku hopped along ahead of him as he explained:

"The Great Toad Sage suddenly woke up from his sleep earlier, seemingly after seeing something terrifying."

"After waking up, he told me to bring you here."

The Great Toad Sage?!

Jiraiya’s expression immediately became serious.

He held a great deal of respect for the Great Toad Sage, who possessed the ability to make prophecies.

Back then, it had been the Great Toad Sage who told him about the Child of Prophecy.

He had said that Jiraiya would eventually become the teacher of the Child of Prophecy.

Under his guidance, the Child of Prophecy would bring change to the world.

However, it was unknown whether that change would bring peace or destruction to the world.

Nevertheless.

Jiraiya firmly believed that with his guidance, the Child of Prophecy would definitely bring peace to the shinobi world!

Soon.

The man and toad arrived at a magnificent palace.

The elderly-looking Great Toad Sage was lying there quietly with his eyes narrowed, seemingly already dead.

Fukasaku hopped up in front of the Great Toad Sage and softly reminded him:

"Great Sage, little Jiraiya is here."

The Great Toad Sage slowly opened his eyes.

A little vitality gradually returned to his body as he looked down at Jiraiya with narrowed eyes and smiled.

"Little Jiraiya has arrived."

Jiraiya was currently anxious to return to the village, so he immediately asked:

"Sage, you called me here this time. Is there some new prophecy you need to tell me?"

The Great Toad Sage tried hard to recall what he had seen.

A trace of fear appeared on his aged toad face.

"I saw some new images."

"In a future I cannot determine how far away, there will be a pair of terrifying eyes overlooking the shinobi world."

"Boundless flames of war will spread throughout the entire shinobi world, and everything that currently exists will be destroyed..."

Hearing this.

Both Jiraiya and Fukasaku were startled.

The destruction of the shinobi world?

Someone would plunge the entire shinobi world into war?

What kind of person would do such a thing?

"Great Sage, the person you’re talking about... Is it the Child of Prophecy?"

Jiraiya hurriedly asked.

In the Great Toad Sage’s previous prophecy, the Child of Prophecy, despite receiving Jiraiya’s guidance, could still potentially bring destruction to the shinobi world.

If this person were one of his disciples, then he would have to pay even more attention.

The next time he accepted a disciple, he would need to guide them even more carefully.

"No."

The Great Toad Sage answered:

"In the images I saw, this person is not your disciple."

Hearing this, Jiraiya breathed a small sigh of relief.

No matter what, he absolutely did not want one of his disciples to bring destruction to the shinobi world.

However!

Even if the person was not his disciple, they still had to be found as soon as possible!

"Great Sage, how should I find that... Child of Destruction?"

Jiraiya paused for a moment before giving the person in the prophecy this title.

The Great Toad Sage shook his head.

"This person suddenly appeared in my prophecy."

"From the images I saw, I can only determine one thing."

"He will be in Konoha."

"Konoha? Then this will be much easier."

Jiraiya breathed a sigh of relief.

As one of the Legendary Three Ninja, if he wanted to investigate someone in Konoha, it would be much easier than searching aimlessly throughout the entire shinobi world.

Just as Jiraiya was about to immediately return to Konoha, the Great Toad Sage stopped him again.

His voice was unhurried as he began recounting a story from the distant past.

"A long time ago, there was a Rabbit Goddess who descended from the heavens."

"She possessed boundless power and used that power to bring peace to the world."

"At that time, the people of the world worshipped her as the Rabbit Goddess."

Jiraiya listened with a confused expression.

The Rabbit Goddess?

Wasn’t that merely a mythological legend from the shinobi world?

Could it actually be true?

Smack!

Fukasaku hit him from the side and said irritably:

"Listen carefully. The Great Sage doesn’t say anything meaningless!"

Jiraiya immediately focused and listened carefully.

But he soon discovered that the Great Toad Sage’s story was becoming increasingly outrageous!

The Rabbit Goddess who descended from the heavens ate the fruit of the Divine Tree, gained boundless power, and used that power to pacify a chaotic world.

The Rabbit Goddess had two children.

The elder son was named Ōtsutsuki Hagoromo, while the younger son was named Ōtsutsuki Hamura.

The elder son was none other than the legendary founder of Ninshū—the Sage of Six Paths!

The corner of Jiraiya’s mouth twitched.

Even the Sage of Six Paths had somehow been dragged into this...

The Great Toad Sage continued his story.

Kaguya, the Rabbit Goddess who possessed absolute power and absolute authority, underwent a drastic change in personality and attempted to turn everyone in the world into weapons.

In the end, this action was stopped by her two children.

The Sage of Six Paths and his younger brother used ninjutsu to seal their mother inside the moon.

Jiraiya was completely dumbfounded.

The moon had been created through ninjutsu?

And that ninjutsu had been used by two children to seal away their own mother?

What kind of ridiculous story was this?!

"Great Sage, what exactly are you trying to tell me?"

Jiraiya asked helplessly.

Putting aside whether these things were believable or not, even if they were true, what did they have to do with him?

What did they have to do with the Child of Prophecy or the Child of Destruction?

The Great Toad Sage was silent for a long time.

Then he said:

"I don’t know why, but the person in my dream reminded me of Kaguya from back then."

"Perhaps it is because they will do the same thing in the future..."

Jiraiya fell into thought.

The same thing...

Did that mean destroying the shinobi world?

Either way, he needed to find this "Child of Destruction" as quickly as possible!

When the time came, he would make contact with the person and see whether he could guide them onto the right path.

Seeing that the Great Toad Sage had nothing else to tell him, Jiraiya prepared to leave.

Konoha was facing invasions from both the Hidden Stone and Hidden Cloud Villages.

He had to return as quickly as possible.

Fukasaku sighed in exasperation.

"Little Jiraiya, you really should work harder on your Sage Arts."

"If you have to fight that so-called Child of Destruction in the future, your current Sage Arts are completely inadequate!"

His opponent was someone who might destroy the entire shinobi world!

And Jiraiya needed a tremendous amount of time just to enter Sage Mode!

Would his enemy give him that much time?

Furthermore, even after entering Sage Mode, maintaining it for an extended period required the assistance of both Shima and Fukasaku.

How could such strength possibly be enough?!

Jiraiya, however, did not take it to heart.

He laughed it off.

"Ah, such troublesome matters should just be left to the Child of Prophecy. I have plenty of other things to do."

He was already getting on in years.

Why should he spend his time learning Sage Arts all over again?

He might as well use that time to gather material for his novels.

As for fighting the Child of Destruction...

If that person really possessed the strength to destroy the entire shinobi world, then Jiraiya’s current level of strength would not be enough to matter anyway.

It would be better to find the Child of Prophecy as soon as possible and devote himself to teaching his disciple.
