Chapter 40: An Astonishing Record — Joining the Military Police Force as a Captain

"Five Jonin... He actually killed five of them!"

Uchiha Inahori was utterly dumbfounded after learning about Reiji’s achievements on the Kirigakure battlefield.

He had killed five Jonin in total.

Only one of them had been killed together with his teammates.

The other four had all been killed by Reiji alone.

And one of them had even been a member of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen!

For a moment, Uchiha Inahori looked at Reiji as though he were looking at a ghost.

Raiga, as one of the original Seven Ninja Swordsmen of Kirigakure, was so powerful that even Inahori would have had a difficult time dealing with him.

Didn’t that mean Reiji’s current strength was already comparable to his?

Just a few months ago, before the Chunin Exams, he had still occasionally been giving Reiji guidance.

But as he scanned the list, he spotted another name.

Sarutobi Reiji!

"That guy actually became a Jonin? Heh."

Reiji couldn’t help but sneer.

Sarutobi Reiji had previously been a Special Jonin, but his actual strength was rather questionable.

And now he had actually become a full-fledged Jonin!

Reiji carefully examined the list again.

There were quite a few members of the Sarutobi clan on it.

At that moment, Reiji finally understood.

So that’s where those three thousand Sarutobi shinobi during the Fourth Shinobi World War came from.

Their strength wasn’t necessarily sufficient, but they were given Jonin status and the resources that came with it ahead of time.

Reiji wasn’t surprised at all that Shisui would say this.

As expected of a die-hard Hiruzen fan.

What contributions did the Sarutobi clan make?

Most of what they did were relatively low-risk missions in the rear, such as escorting supplies.

And simply relying on that experience was enough to get promoted to Jonin.

No wonder the Uchiha clan members were dissatisfied.

Seeing that Reiji seemed somewhat displeased, Uchiha Fugaku had already prepared an explanation.

"With your strength, Reiji, if you had been promoted to Jonin this time, you would have been more than qualified to become a captain in the Military Police Force."

"However, although you weren’t promoted to Jonin this time, we can make an exception and directly appoint you as a captain in the Military Police Force."

Reiji nodded and thanked him.

"Coincidentally, there’s currently a vacancy for a squad captain under my unit. Reiji can take that position."

Reiji naturally had no objections.
