"It feels so comfortable here. Being able to rest this well in the middle of the wild is really quite wonderful — I feel lucky," Hiroshi said, lying back and gazing up at the star?filled sky.

As soon as she settled down, Harumiko closed her eyes. She was utterly exhausted and needed to sleep right away.

Girls really do seem to fall asleep faster than boys; within moments, she was already deep in dreams.

"She was out in seconds! I’d better get to sleep too. If I stay awake any longer, I’ll struggle to get up tomorrow and won’t have any energy," Hiroshi whispered softly, glancing over at her.

He closed his eyes and drifted off into a peaceful sleep. With surroundings like this, he hoped he would have sweet dreams.

It was a perfectly calm night. No one disturbed them, and no wild animals came near — they truly got to rest undisturbed.

Summer nights were pleasantly cool and fresh, though it turned a little chilly in the early hours. But since they were wearing enough layers, they didn’t feel the cold at all.

The full moon eventually set, and the sun rose to take its place. Morning arrived quickly, yet both were still fast asleep — clearly planning to have a long lie?in.

They were very sound sleepers, never shifting position. They lay exactly as they had when they first fell asleep.

The night had been silent too; nothing could be heard except the soft chirping of small creatures in the undergrowth.

"Night went by so fast... and now the sun’s already up. It’s starting to get warm too," Hiroshi murmured, smiling as he felt the sunlight on his face, then opened his eyes.

Fully awake now, he saw the sky was bright and clear — a brand new day had begun. He straightened his clothes and climbed slowly down to the ground.

"I slept surprisingly well last night. No dreams, but absolutely no disturbances either. If we could always sleep like this, it would be perfect. I feel refreshed and ready — it’s going to be an energetic day," he said happily while standing on the grass.

"Even out here, we need breakfast. Harumiko’s still asleep, so I’ll prepare something. I’ll make some porridge; it’ll be ready the moment she wakes. Eating first thing will give her even more energy, and we’ll be able to travel faster today," he said softly with a smile.

He took out the dried vegetables he had bought earlier. Vegetable soup and warm rice porridge would be just the right start to the day.

He got straight to work, putting real effort into making a good breakfast.

Time passed, and by around eight o’clock, everything was ready. It smelled delicious and fragrant.

Harumiko stirred awake, tidied her hair, rubbed her eyes, and climbed down slowly from the tree.

The moment her feet touched the ground, she caught the wonderful aroma of cooking food — and smiled happily.
