Chapter 493 (2): Damn Beggar from Hell Asking For Scraps from Heaven

  • Next Chapter

After tasting all Sacred Virtues and Deadly Sins, Wayne became the first person to accept the entirety of Elohim’s inheritance. However, he had not become a god, and divine fire remained elusive to him.

In some aspects, that was a good thing. He would become far stronger than any other gods once he ignited his divine fire. Even Elohim, who had once fought five gods and triumphed, wouldn’t be his match.

“Mikhael, you’ve mastered all sins and ruled over an uncharted land that was Hell. Don’t you want to do something with it?” Wayne couldn’t contain his curiosity.

“It’s none of your business!”

“It is some of my business, actually.” Wayne pointed at the back of his head to manifest a halo. With his arms spread, he put on a compassionate look as if he empathized with all life in the world. “O Great Viceroy of Heaven, the first angel, He Who Is Like God, Śār, right hand of the divine throne, and Humility, the first Sacred Virtue, you are beyond exceptional.”

“Ah...”

Pride felt his bones turn to jelly. He staggered back with an obsessive look on his face, feeling like he would climax then and there.

The Anointed One spoke too well. He wanted to hear more.

Every time Wayne behaved like the Anointed One, Hesione couldn’t contain her desire for him. She occupied his day and night, unable to stop.

The same applied to Mikhael. As the Anointed One was their official leader, the same words would have more gravity coming from him. Every time the Anointed One opened his mouth, Mikhael felt blissed out.

It was Mikhael’s weakness. Wayne didn’t need to use raw power to subdue him; some praise would suffice.

“So, are you willing to tell me now, Viceroy?”

“Um, yes, but...” Pride smiled earnestly. “If the Great Anointed One is willing to swap me with Mikhael and have that Mikhael watch the trash demons bare their teeth in my place, I’ll tell you the truth.”

Ha, trying to get it for free?

As an expert in securing free hook-up—in securing free lunches, Wayne saw through Pride easily. “Mikhael isn’t my problem. Your conflict stays between you, and I have no say in the matter. However... there is Auriel.”

Wayne went up to put an arm around Pride’s shoulders like they were the best of friends. “What do you think of him? He once swore to me that he would happily guard the Gate of Hell with no regret, and a Śār can’t afford to break their promises. I decide to grant him what he wants.”

Heaven and Hell would never break into a war; even if they did, Hell would lose.

That, Wayne and Mikhael both knew all too well. The leader of Hell was a spy planted by Heaven, and there were deadweights dragging Hell down to make things worse. No number of vermin in Heaven would prevent Heaven from securing a one-sided victory.

Under the circumstances, sending Auriel to guard the Gate of Hell would at worst lead to him getting beaten up by Pride and bleeding out. It wouldn’t be easy for Auriel to die. Wayne might as well grant Auriel his wish and help him become a credible Śār who never went back on his words.

Bah, you petty man. You call that granting his wishes? I just don’t feel like exposing you!

Pride kept his derisive thoughts to himself, huffing. “Auriel is complete trash with no redeeming quality. He cannot bring me joy. Don’t expect me to take care of him for you.”

“Let the other Deadly Sins do it. The clown is a good choice. It’s been a while since he last told a joke.”

“That’s doable.”

“Kekekeke—” x2

How dare you have the same laugh as me! x2

Instead of leaving Heaven immediately, Wayne retrieved the sins he had been missing and made several round trips between Heaven and Heaven, enhancing Hesione to facilitate her inheritance of Heaven.

Meanwhile, two men had descended to the human world.

***

The leading man had six wings. With a handsome face and glowing blond hair, he looked like a human sun, radiating infinite holy intent. He was the Viceroy of Heaven, He Who Is... TL;DR... Mikhael.

The person trailing close behind Mikhael was Reza, former Pontiff and current Cherub.

Reza looked around at the familiar place, marveling at the Viceroy of Heaven’s prowess. He was indeed He Who Is Like God.

It wasn’t Reza’s first day as the Pontiff. According to the sacred texts, there were only two ways for angels to descend. One was to sign a contract of the Golden Law so that their thoughts could descend to the human world, and the other was to reincarnate as a human infant, slowly reclaiming their power in Heaven after awakening.

Mikhael had descended to the human world directly, and he could even bring other angels with him.

He was incredibly powerful. No wonder the Anointed One had pardoned Mikhael, the mastermind, when Lahr had been executed for his betrayal. Heaven could not do without Mikhael. Losing him would be akin to losing both arms for the Anointed One.

How about the other viceroy, Hesione? Well, she was the Anointed One’s left leg and right buttcheek, holding superior status in a different way.

In addition, two humans had followed them to the human world: Kael the tanker and Archibald, the Papal State’s envoy. Wayne had bestowed a Fruit of Life each to Gerar and Vilkul to extract their human selves, sending them home to take on their respective responsibilities.

It made no difference where Kael sought out tanks and rode on them, but Archibald had to take responsibility for the seed he had sown. Whether he had done it with genuine love or not, he had to live with his decision.

They returned to the human world as legendary mages. Bowing, they took their leave.

Archibald left to seek out Clergywoman Titus, while Kael was looking for the current Pontiff to find out when the tanks would be delivered to him. He would not tolerate a failure to deliver! That would be disrespectful to Gerar, a Sacred Virtue!

Mikhael watched them go with a cold look in his eyes, letting out an arrogant huff. “Reza, the Anointed One has high hopes for you. He said that you’re familiar with the human world and recommended you to assist me. This is an important matter, so don’t disappoint me.”

“Viceroy Mikhael, I will assist you in drafting the new Sacred Tome. Do not worry. I won’t disappoint you, much less the Anointed One.” Reza bowed, touching his two pairs of wings with satisfaction.

The Anointed One had gone to Heaven. Viceroy Mikhael and Śār Lahr rebelled, leading to the overhaul of the Seven Sacred Virtues. Hestia filled the empty spot.

The Seven Sacred Virtues were Heaven’s faces, and Hestia was insufficient in both experience and capability. There was no shortage of Cherubim in Heaven, let alone a Throne.

Her only advantage was her history of serving the Anointed One at his side while he was in the human world. That advantage, however, was enough to set her apart. No other angels could compete for the post; Reza, even less likely.

Although he believed he had contributed more and demonstrated greater loyalty by sending the Śār of Purity to the Anointed One’s bed, burning the Papal State’s warehouses, giving the two most beautiful clergywomen in the Papal State to the Anointed One for appreciation, and driving a coach for the Anointed One...

He was a crusty old man!

Were he a beautiful female Pontiff who projected an authoritative image in public and became pliant in private, with a pure, lewd body, he would’ve surely secured a spot among the Seven Sacred Virtues... Ahem, those were thoughts he could never voice.

Indeed, Reza believed that the Anointed One had to have good reasons for appointing Hestia a Sacred Virtue. Moreover, Reza had made a significant leap by becoming a Cherub as soon as he entered Heaven.

As an angel, he shouldn’t be greedy, or he would seem disloyal.

This mission was important. Viceroy Mikhael was personally in charge, with Reza providing assistance. That showed the Anointed One’s deep trust in him and would raise his accolades. The great superior appreciated him and recognized his value, so he should be humble and nervous, crying tears of gratitude.

It was a rare opportunity that many Cherubim would beg on their knees for. As a newcomer, he had to seize the chance and do his best. With the achievement under his belt, he might just earn another promotion.

The experienced former pontiff knew the way of the world too well. The Seven Sacred Virtues hadn’t been finalized, and there could be further adjustments in the future.

Auriel, Gerar, and Vilkul, for example, had gotten on the Anointed One’s bad side and would be meeting pushback in their career. Sooner or later, they would make a grave mistake. Auriel, especially, was very likely to be replaced.

Reza still remembered Auriel laying into the Anointed One haughtily in this very plaza. Ignorance would absolve his guilt? Ha, a leader might say that, but it would never go beyond lip service!

Gerar and Vilkul were in a similar boat. Originally, they should’ve enjoyed the Anointed One’s goodwill since their human reincarnations, Kael and Archibald, had established a connection with the Anointed One. Kael was even a good friend of his. The Anointed One had granted them freedom and a clean slate, which showed how deep their friendships ran.

However, the two Sacred Virtues squandered their advantages and bought into Auriel’s nonsense, wasting the good hands they had been dealt. Every time Reza thought about that, he couldn’t help but snicker. Personnel adjustments were few and far between in Heaven. If none of those in high places made a mistake, those at the bottom wouldn’t have any chance of promotions. The three angels had been generous.

“That’d better be the case.”

Mikhael glanced at the obedient look on the previous pontiff’s face, silently cursing the vermin out.

Mikhael had been a good son his whole life. He was the Heavenly Father’s number one loyal fan and would rather endure torment in Hell and allow his heart to become perverted than to reach toward Heaven.

Heaven represented Father, so he would only ever protect it and emphasize its infinite light with his darkness.

Heaven had welcomed its Anointed One. The Anointed One...

As an objective viceroy, Mikhael had to say something that Father wouldn’t appreciate: Father, are you suffering from vision loss? The Anointed One will sooner or later lead Heaven to total collapse!

Mikhael felt the heavy burden on his shoulders. The mission to draft the new Sacred Tome, for example, was a difficult one. It wouldn’t be a small task to whitewash an Anointed One like Wayne. Mikhael didn’t trust anyone to complete the mission, so he had to do it personally.

His first stop was the Anointed One’s hometown in the human world: Londan, Windsor.

Most of what Mikhael knew about Wayne came from Forest. Other than that, the Anointed One he knew was Deceit and Bat Demon in Hell, who spent his time messing around with the succubi. The Lord of Lust would’ve gotten chafing if she chafed!

The truth could not be included in the Sacred Tome, so creative liberty was taken. It wasn’t that the Anointed One desired Lust, but that Lust had led her succubus familiars to ambush the Anointed One in an attempt to lure him to Hell, but the Anointed One remained resistant, finally walking out of the Lost Paradise as a pure person.

That would work!

Of course, the event could be completely omitted altogether, too. As long as the Sacred Tome didn’t mention it, no one would spin the descriptions and adapt the truth into an adult film.

“Reza, let’s head to Londan first. I must visit the Holy Mother and comb through the Anointed One’s relationships,” Mikhael said solemnly. The Holy Mother is the Anointed One’s mother and an important character at the beginning of the Sacred Tome. Moreover...

He wondered how the Anointed One had come to be. Had Father sneaked back to the Chosen Land and created the Anointed One with the Holy Mother?

“Viceroy Mikhael, do you need me to organize an entourage for you?” Reza asked respectfully. “You may not care about appearance, but you are the Viceroy of Heaven, the Anointed One’s most trusted Śār, and He Who Is Like God. Without a proper presentation, Heaven’s authority will be questioned.”

“Well said!” Mikhael nodded. He suddenly found the vermin more agreeable than he had thought.

“Viceroy Mikhael, please take a rest. I’ll make the arrangements...”

“No need. Point me to the warehouses. I’m picking gifts for the Holy Mother,” Mikhael interrupted. He knew that the vermin understood him, so Reza should quickly lead the way. He just had to claim that demons had attacked the Papal State and burned down the warehouses.

“...”

“Speak!”

Reza broke into cold sweat. He had nothing to say.

“I get it now. Before you entered Heaven, demons had already attacked the Papal State,” Mikhael said in a hardened tone. “What a loyal Cherub. Even a single blade of grass in the Papal State is the Anointed One’s asset. How dare you, as a manager, steal from him?!”

“That-that’s not the case...” Reza wiped his forehead and summarized what had happened in a low voice. “That time... Then... Later... So the warehouses are no more. The Great Anointed One is satisfied.”

(눈_눈)

What did he say? Father had to be blind to have picked an Anointed One like that.

Mikhael’s resentment grew, but he had no choice but to clean up the mess Wayne left. He said in an even lower voice, “Reza, you’ve gotten it wrong. In my opinion, the demons have attacked the Papal State.”

“Don’t worry, Viceroy Mikhael. I’ve made the arrangements. As this is the Papal State, regular demons couldn’t have started trouble here.” Reza smiled sagely. “The culprits who burned down the warehouses are the Lord of Pride, head of the Seven Deadly Sins, and the Lord of Envy. The two worked together and pulled the heist. They were responsible.”

“Who told you to use that story? I—” Mikhael raged. He was about to snap that the clown was in no position to start a fire alongside him, but remembering that he had cleared his name and become free of the sinful name of Pride, he huffed and corrected himself.

“Pride is my archenemy. He’s too prideful to set his eyes on the Papal State’s treasure. Change the story. The Lord of Envy was the sole culprit!”

“I understand!”
