Chapter 2436: Seeking Peace Through Struggle

  • Next Chapter

Although saving someone is akin to putting out a fire, Liu Bei still refused Zhao Yun’s plan to head to Western Asia today. With only three or four days left before the New Year, it’s better to wait until after the celebrations to go; there’s no rush.

With Li Youu repeatedly educating Liu Bei on various facts, Liu Bei also understood that if Parthia, with so many people helping like Zhuge Liang, couldn’t stop Rome, Zhao Yun going alone would be meaningless, as a single person couldn’t change the situation.

This isn’t the era from hundreds of years ago when there was little Heaven and Earth Essence, and Cloud Qi couldn’t suppress the experts. Didn’t you see when Lyu Bu threw a Sky Piercer over, Rome’s City Guardians were blown away by the aftermath? Yet, the Roman Soldiers easily resisted the impact through their unbroken formation.

Speaking of the Sky Piercer, when the Romans collected the battlefield, Lyu Bu’s weapon was already retrieved by them. Now a group of Roman experts is studying this weapon.

“Truly a weapon of the Celestial God, it’s simply magnificent. I can feel a kind of holy will within it rejecting my control. No matter how many attempts, the formidable Holy Spirit’s will within this weapon is palpable, truly a Divine Weapon!” Pelinrius praised as he caressed Lyu Bu’s Sky Piercer, simply showing any intent to wield it, the weapon would repel him.

Thanks to Ganasis, the Duke of Border Commandery, taking sides early, Dukes such as Pesinius Niger and Claudius Albinus didn’t die. Although these two were quite displeased with Severus, at the time when Severus marched into Rome, the people welcoming Severus’s Royal Teacher were quite trustworthy.

With supporters from within Rome added in, these two have basically been sidelined by Severus now, and the strong forces under them have been incorporated into the Imperial Guards.

This is an important reason why Pelinlius is able to be part of this grand army; if Severus hadn’t gained control of the nation, Pelinlius would still be stuck in Great Britain, eating ice shards. However, there are no more of those chaotic situations, so Severus brought these guys, rotting at home with overwhelming strength and having once been Legion Leaders, along.

“Indeed, a weapon of Celestial God Lyu Bu,” Aristonos similarly praised while touching the Halberd Blade, “the will within this weapon is even stronger than ours.”

Sulinarari half-lied as he turned his head sideways to look at the rest without speaking; the Holy Spirit’s will in this weapon was far scarier than the will in his Cross Spear. As for his Divine Sword, well, it hasn’t birthed a Holy Spirit, and it can’t compare to this Divine Artifact.

“Have you guys had enough?” Perennius roared at the group, who seemed reluctant to let go of the Celestial God’s weapon upon touching it, “You’re here to figure out how to deal with the Celestial God, not to express exclamations like you can’t while I’m not around to exclaim. Stop touching!”

“Deal with what? That guy is basically a god,” Ludwig said resentfully, “Do you now understand how I felt back then? That transformation wasn’t my fault! Looking back, I’m impressed that I even survived.”

Hearing Ludwig’s words, the group nodded; he was absolutely right—there’s no way to win, the opponent’s a genuine Celestial God, not fake. Didn’t you see that Sky Piercer? The terrain in the Judea Province has sunken down.

“You’re impressive enough, having dueled with the opponent and survived.” Laetas patted Ludwig’s shoulder with a smile and said, “Just for that, I’ll give you a roll of silk when we get back.”

Ludwig rolled his eyes but didn’t mind for the sake of the silk.

“It’s impossible for him to be that strong,” Sulinarari suddenly turned around, crossing his arms to prop his head, his expression deep.

“Come, have some freshly pressed grape juice; I’ve mixed in red wine and lead powder.” Upon hearing Sulinarari’s words, Perennius picked up a silver wine cup from the side and poured him a full glass of grape juice with red wine and a lot of white lead powder, a strange toxin.

“Oh, pour me a glass too. By the way, are there still grapes at this time?” Aristonos also reached for a wine cup, asking curiously.

“Oh, there’s raisins, freshly pressed raisins—no, red raisins immediately powdered and mixed in.” Perennius diverted the topic, clearly showing this group’s extremely luxurious life conditions, not resembling an army preparing for war.

“I’m not joking; he can’t be that strong,” Sulinarari stated after downing the grape wine, tapping the wine cup with his knuckles. Perennius handed the wine jug to others, allowing them to fill their cups while he prepared to seriously discuss with Sulinarari.

“Don’t you see the East Side? The terrain there has changed entirely,” Perennius pointed to what was once Syria’s highest peak and said, “As much as I don’t want to admit it, it’s entirely beyond human power. Could you achieve that?”

“No.”

“Well then,” Perennius casually advised, “Su, there’s no need to compete with the gods. You’re already very strong, strong enough to glimpse the gods’ realm, but there’s no need to genuinely challenge the gods.”

“No, I’ve already challenged,” Sulinarari replied helplessly, “and I won. Despite various reasons, my Will Body at least won against the god’s Will Body.”

“That is the fact. The question is whether you think the former is the limit of Celestial God Lyu Bu, or the latter is his threshold. That was truly smashing the void, unlike my perception of the void’s ripple, completely opening the void, it was genuinely shattered.” Laetas tilted his head and sighed, saying, “At that moment, the texture of the sky was broken.”

“That was truly a move to violently tear open the Sky Dome.” Laetas said with utmost seriousness.

“Anyway, the next time I see him, I still want to fight.” Sulinarari said defiantly, “I just can’t believe the opponent is really so strong that they can use that attack indefinitely.”

“The problem is, even if it’s one strike, if you get hit, there won’t even be scraps left.” Pelinlius looked at Sulinarari speechlessly and said.

“Just as long as I don’t get hit, it’s fine.” Sulinarari said with utmost seriousness.

“Alright, as you wish. Remember to call us to help if you can’t manage. Ganging up might lack some knightly spirit, but if mere mortals challenge the gods, not teaming up would be foolish.” Perennius said helplessly, “Celestial God Lyu Bu is truly a freakish existence.”

“Give that to me, let me feel it again.” Sulinarari said irritably, and Ludwig handed Lyu Bu’s Sky Piercer back to Su with resignation. This thing, ever since it was picked up, has been fondled by them, and the Holy Spirit inside is strong enough to come out and bite people.

“Among the weapons of the gods, there might be some reasons for their immense power.” Sulinarari took the Sky Piercer in hand and began releasing his will to stimulate the weapon. Soon, the Sky Piercer began to glow, and then the Halberd Spirit emerged, accompanied by Lyu Bu’s majestic aura.

“Even after seeing it several times, it’s still so dazzling now.” Perennius praised, and at the same time, Sulinarari released the spirit from his Cross Spear.

Compared to the dominant aura of Lyu Bu’s dragon-shaped Halberd Spirit, the Holy Spirit emerging from Sulinarari’s Cross Spear was significantly weaker.

“Alas, even the Holy Spirit is somewhat afraid of the opposite.” Laetas looked at the Holy Spirit of Sulinarari’s Cross Spear helplessly and said. Previously, they were all envious of the Holy Spirit within Sulinarari’s spear, whether it was the power it possessed or the harmonious integration with its wielder – everyone admired it greatly.

Yet, in this scenario, watching the silver Holy Spirit within Sulinarari’s Cross Spear cower into a ball, everyone felt a sense of inferiority.

“I have no choice, my Holy Spirit leans towards support, while that weapon is certainly combat-type.” Su pointed at the Sky Piercer’s dragon shadow that gleamed like gold, speaking in discontent. The others chuckled without commenting further, while Sulinarari’s face showed some embarrassment.

“What do you think about throwing this weapon into a volcano?” Aristonos suddenly spoke.

“It’s useless, it’s simply indestructible. Even if I give it to you now, you won’t be able to destroy it.” Sulinarari waved dismissively, saying, “Hiding it is pointless. Though I hate to admit it, the one who dared give us this weapon isn’t afraid of any tricks we might pull, as this is a weapon of the gods.”

“You want to fight the gods, but you’re worried this won’t solve it?” Ludwig mocked.

“My dignity doesn’t allow me to do this.” Sulinarari spoke with utmost radiance.

“Alright, but when you fail the duel, don’t come to us to gang up on him.” Ludwig teased with a laugh.

“Alas, if only my sword could form a Holy Spirit.” Sulinarari sighed and said, “By the way, I heard His Majesty plans to talk with Han Army again.”

“Yes, just so happens the Han Empire envoy is also in our camp and has witnessed some of the Han Empire’s power; it’s good to sit down and talk properly.” Perennius, being the former Imperial Guard Corps commander, is excellent in considering various aspects.

“What if negotiations fail?” Laetas asked directly, and Perennius gave him a glare but answered, “If negotiations fail, then we’ll have to fight, but we must show a posture for the second round of talks. The strength exhibited by the Han Empire deserves our respect.”

“A posture, huh? So His Majesty is already prepared to move?” Pelinlius, once a Legion Leader, understood the implications and understood the point upon hearing it.

“It’s a two-pronged approach, but we must fight Parthia, so whether the Han Empire is willing to negotiate or not, can’t change this necessity.” Perennius spoke slowly.
